With Mo leaving the team in 2026, what changes do you expect?

    Will Ollie be retained?
Will Flores continue the draft position.
What further player development changes will occur?
Will we become more aggresive in international markets
Will we go after high dollar free agents
    Any thing else?

    1. Yes
    2. Probably but I don’t know.
    3. Most likely a continuation of what they implemented this Spring. A lot more instructors in the minors.
    4. I would hope so.
    5. No I don’t think so.
    6. The build up will probably be gradual. Bloom isn’t going to jump into the deep end of the pool in his first year in the big chair. I could see us offering extensions to Noot and Donovan, maybe Fedde if he isn’t traded. We will need more pitching from somewhere next year. Otherwise they will probably focus on building from within. Walker will probably get another shot. I am not so sure about Gorman. Bloom is known to be very good at building up a productive minor league system. The rest of his resume is kind of cloudy. It will be interesting to see what he does.

Will Ollie be retained? – For 2026
Will Flores continue the draft position. – Through 2026 at least, depends how well they work together
What further player development changes will occur? – Let’s hope so, Bloom is known for that from what I know.
Will we become more aggresive in international markets – Doubtful, but they do have a big commit for January
Will we go after high dollar free agents – Doubtful as of now

My question would be, for any trades at the end of July, regardless of buying/selling/a bit of both, who will be “THE ONE” actually saying yes or no? As well as final say in the draft?

It should be Bloom, he’s the one with his future somewhat dependent on it. Then, Mr. Bowtie can be sipping on a cold beverage on a beach.

With our lack of hitting I expect we will be out of the NL Central race and the Wild Card by the latter part of July. Which means the Arenado trade rumors will heat up.

The question is – what can they get for Arenado? And who is going to take an aging 3rdbaseman that is trending downward? Especially on offense.

I expect the roster will be missing Mikolas, Matz, Fedde, Helsey and Maton; which is a significant portion of our IP to date.

Gray and Contreras may be rethinking those nt’s next year. I doubt they can move Arenado.

I agree. It looks like they are maxing Gormans handedness platoons in an effort to raise his trade value. Once they conceded to Nado being here, prep to move Gorman, evidently.

KCB, Why would Gray and Contreras be looking to leave? If this team had a closer it would be knocking on the door of first place.

Tough to say on some of those questions. I doubt they go after high-dollar free agents. I think they keep the current philosophy going of emphasizing younger players from the system, while adding a veteran here or there.

As for Ollie, I think it will depend on how things go this year. As of now, he has earned another year. But we will see where things stand at season’s end.

Flores probably sticks around in the same position. It seems the organization is producing some good players – maybe not super stars, but a decent group of talented younger guys.

The thing about Ollie is that he is already under contract for 2026 and we know how the Cardinals feel about eating money. Unless this team totally crashes and burns the second half of the season I would expect him back next year to finish out his deal.

The New York Times had an article today polling players on various subjects, including “Which manager … would you not want to play for.” Guess who’s tied for least desirable? Non-other than our man Ollie!

I’m not sure how much credence to lend the whole idea as the players were polled anonymously.

Well, they’re certainly not going to attach their SSN’s to the poll. I’m entirely certain that the word was out among players around the league a long time ago that this guy is a first rate nit-wit who wouldn’t hesitate to throw his granny to the wolves if it meant saving his own skin. These players belong to an exclusive circle and there’s no doubt that they talk and pass on knowledge within that tight circle. I’m reasonably certain that this guy’s reputation is way less than not good.

.500 +/- baseball seems to be good enough for the owner.

Until the team is sold or DeWitt decides to spend a lot more money on the team I don’t see anything other than the occasional cameo appearance in the playoffs.

The deadline deal(s) should include bringing in a young #1 or #2 starter. Of course that would entail giving up some talent in return. What do we have in value that can be replaced by ’26/’27. Wetherholt seems to be progressing quickly….. Crooks is doing the same. Is Saggese ever going to be MLB material?

For a couple of years now the system has provided a lot of high potential staters but they led to little in the way of results. Presently, McGreevy looks like a middle of the rotation starter…. after him a few with some high ceilings. The types that have been fizzling out for us. We could use a couple as trade chips right now.

As far as heavy duty proven talent, we have Wetherholt and Crooks (Saggese) penciled in next season so that would leave Winn and Herrera available. Throw in Gorman and or Walker plus Fedde and or Matz. That’s a pretty nice talent to be bundled for what this team actually needs…. a top of the rotation starter.

If Winn and Herrera plus more are needed for a top of the rotation starter then we don’t need to trade for one. I would have to have 4 years of control of a TOR starter to trade Winn alone. I’m not sure I would even do that.

I would like to see them part with 2 of Nootbaar/Burleson/Herrera as I don’t see them as long-term fits. We have a lot of role players eating up spots right now and trading 2 of these would free up a lot.

I don’t see Arenado going anywhere either until Wetherholt is ready. Probably keep Arenado until mid-year 2026, then release him and call up Wetherholt is what will happen imo.

I think he will have to dip into the FA starter pool so we aren’t pressured to push Mathews/Roby/Hence. That will be the extent of the free agency market, unless they get a starter back from the above guys or from Helsley/Fedde.

Arenado can’t be allowed to return in ’26. Under any circumstances. Release him if you have to. Nothing personal against him. It’s just time.

Opinions on the future of Kyle Leahy. The announcers during telecasts have mentioned multiple times this season that because of his 5 pitch arsenal he could be given the opportunity to move back to being a starter. Looking at his minor league stats he was a starter in A and AA until 2022. So should he be given the opportunity to start next year or stay in the bullpen as a late inning guy?

Based on what, exactly? Who’s the 3B that is forcing the Cards to move on from Nolan? I don’t see the Cards eating all that cash just to move on, especially when he’s not exactly terrible at this point anyway.

Osuagec – Leahy always had very poor numbers as a starter. Yes, he has 5 – maybe even 6 pitches. But his command isn’t always great and he leaves too many in the middle of the plate. He works around this as a reliever though because he can throw them a lot harder. I would doubt the Cardinals ever try him as a starter again. Expect next season to be Gray, Liberatore, McGreevey, probably Pallante, and probably someone who is not in the organization today. Then look for Matthews, maybe Roby, or maybe even Doyle to push for a spot by the all star game next season.

Leahy’s minors numbers said he would wash out vs mlb. A fresh look says otherwise. How long does a player have to drag minor league baggage with him? It’s just another form of blinders.

Based on he can’t hit anymore. Sub 700 ops. That doesn’t hack it.

Any of them on the roster. Gorman Donovan Saggesse Westerholr. Any of them are better options.Floyd Rayford might be a better option.

Donovan isn’t a 3B and neither is Wetherholt. Saggese is probably barely passable and he’s no given to say he’s even a 1 WAR player. Gorman isn’t hitting enough yet to say he’s an upgrade. Now, if someone were to give up something or take on most of his salary, I could be convinced to trade him. But to DFA a guy like that for being average (he’s still on pace for right around a 2 WAR season) would set quite the precedent.

Please don’t be sensible about the Arenado situation. I get it. But we still don’t have the Gorman question answered and we aren’t going to without trading him if Arenado is still here. Fine he’s a 2 war player, but all of that is built on defense. And historically you need some power from that position. His is gone and won’t be back. I realize they aren’t going to dfa Arenado. But if and when they do trade him, the return won’t be much better.
