Katie Woo’s article is an indictment against the ownership and entire front office.

The FO completely abandoned the minor leagues and Latin America. She compared the Cardinals to the Brewers who have 15 minor league instructors compared to the Cardinals’ 5 instructors. When the Cards threw Jordan Walker in right field they did so with no outfield instructor helping him. Even when he got sent down this year there was no outfield instructor to help him which is why he came back and looked worse. The Cardinals have no infield instructor, no outfield instructor, no Catching coordinator, among other positions. Also, it appears the ownership gave MO a lump sum of money that he had to distribute between the big club and development and Mo spent most of the money on the big club, thereby eroding the minors.

The amount of gymnastics the media is doing to defend this team is pathetic

    cardsfan64,

Packy was placed on the iL again on July 9th. He appeared in 7 games between his IL stints.

I chart the entire Cards organization on their pitcher usage on this spreadsheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1sTk0MNuPOaWWJHwpZ5tniQAIXQ4ZzdeRZ-tu6SST2Ko/edit?usp=sharing

Really feels like the Gallegos situation screams this is a poverty ownership. If you need to save a few million in order to add other pieces what are you even doing owning a team?

Brian, what are the chances the Cards just cut bait on Perez after the PED pop?

BHC, are you including the 5% overage in that calculation? With the overage, they should have a tick over $10.7 mm of total pool. FWIW, Davis’s slot value (Rd 5) is $485,700.

Yes that includes the 5% overage. However, Davis’ bonus was just announced a bit ago by Carlos Collazo of Baseball America and he signed for the full slot amount. Therefore, the Cardinals only left $124,550 unused. They spent $386,100 over their allocated amount.

With several days of announced signing bonuses, the Cardinals only have Braden Davis (3) and Brendan Lawson (19) to sign. Lawson has already said he won’t be signing. The Cardinals have $610,250 remaining in their bonus pool.

I read in Goold’s chat to not be concerned about minor league rehab results because guys are working on stuff. The implication is that they can turn it back on like a light switch.

Gallegos hasn’t pitched in game action for a week and when he did most recently, he allowed three runs. But MLB players are not required to rehab in the minors unless they agree.

The Mad Hungarian made the same claim about Mark Mulder back in the 2000s with all his injuries. We know how that turned out.

I don’t have a lot of faith in a guy who had an ERA over 11 in AAA and AA. Granted it was only 6.1 innings, but he had a 12 ERA in MLB before the FO “conjured up” an injury. Give me the Indy guys over Gio at this point. Heck, give me Kloffenstein as well.

All the way around this event was amazing! Glad the Cards got to participate after have the Field of Dreams Game taken away.

Reggie Jackson was asked to share how it felt coming back to this field and he took the studio guys and the fans to a history lesson:

All of these guys need to appeal and go with the “a friend placed these bets using my money and I didn’t know about it” defense. Worked for another guy.

Looks like whatever Flaherty was having trouble with got fixed by the Tigers. He looks more and more like the pitcher we thought he’d turn into when he was a prospect.

Middleton only threw 6 pitches and only one of those pitches was a strike. Did he get hurt again?

All of you should listen to this Bill DeWitt III interview. Basically he says that its dumb for fans not to go to games because then the team will have less money to spend on salaries, etc. My take is that even when fans showed up and the ratings on TV were huge, they still didn’t spend, and when they have spent they did terribly. Anyways, this interview will surely piss you off.

I hated the Carp signing but after this dreadful start of the season I relish the thought of seeing him hit. Team cannot get any worse than they are, which rock bottom.
