That is the weakest and lamest argument I have ever heard.
Oh stop with the rhetoric bccran! I’m a fan of this team and have been my entire life. I’m not an apologist like you who turns a blind eye to poor performance and act like Matheny is the best thing to grace a Cardinal uniform. I am not the only one calling for Matheny’s firing. There are a ton of sports writers, more smarter than you and me, who have written countless articles talking about Matheny’s piss poor job performance. You’re unbelievable. You are the kind of person who would vote for someone knowing full well their policies would be detrimental to your livlihood and wouldn’t have any regrets.
Omg just stop with the big bat garbage!!! That doesn’t explain away his awful game management which is what’s hurt this team. His decisions in the postseason, his usage of the wrong relievers, overuse of relievers and leaving starters in longer than they need. A big bat doesn’t explain why the defense is garbage or why certain guys cannot run the bases. That’s on the coaches and Matheny is head coach!
No matter how much you want to ignore facts it doesn’t make you correct. Must be nice to live with your head in the sand.
He single handedly ran Maness, Siegrist, Mitchell, and Bowman into the ground
When he puts them in situations where stats show they will fail, yes it’s his fault. Your delusion holds no bounds.
Every manager deals with injuries. You still haven’t been able to defend his bullpen usage, leaving starters in games too long and poor double switches.
I do agree with you on Oscar, CC. Keep in mind, though, he is only 22 years old. I have him in my top 25.
bccran, your defense of Matheny is mind numbing.
I could provide article after article of guys smarter than all of us who say Matheny is a poor manager with bad habits.
“Now, the Matheny apologists would say something like: well, he’s won more games than anybody since 2012 … so what bad habits? It’s an interesting argument. I tend to be a bottom-line guy, but there are no absolutes here.” https://www.101sports.com/2016/12/22/no-4-cardinals-concern-2017-mike-mathenys-handling-personnel/
That’s the same argument bccran likes to make which I find hilarious after reading this article.
At this point I wouldn’t put it past the Padres. They’ve gotten two of our guys and kept them protected. They are not interested in competing at the moment. A big power bat off the bench could be tempting to several teams.
I feel Torre gets a bad rap because Gussie wasn’t interested in competing during the early 90s.
MLB.com has him ranked at 12
VEB scouting reports compares him to Renteria as a smooth defender who doesn’t make mistakes. He will be 22 years old playing in Springfield. He’s the best SS prospect in the system in my opinion (and others). And he was ranked 14th by TheCardinalNation entering this season. I don’t believe he’s fallen out of the top 15 like others have.CariocaCardinal,
He’s only 21 and had a very productive season cut short with a bad ankle injury. He should have been in Springfield in the 2nd half but that injury hurt him. I still like him. He hits for a good average, good on base, doesn’t k a lot and able to draw walks. His fielding has even gotten better through the minors (which take into account the fields are not the best).
He inherited Allen Craig who was still a good hitter in 2012 and he got Carlos Beltran who put very good numbers. I dont understand the Pujols reference as he was already dropping off in performance at this point. But he inherited a good team with good players and his gaffs during the playoffs costs this team a title in 2012, 2013, and 2014.
Everyone argued this team wasn’t good enough coming into the season but that still doesn’t explain Matheny’s record on bullpen management, leaving starters in games way too long and making mind boggling double switches that come back to haunt the team later in the game.
Sticking your head in the sand and making noise doesn’t change the fact Matheny is a poor tactician.
Any thought on Wick? He seemed to take a step back this season and could be a DFA candidate.
#11 – Randy Arozarena
#12 – Edmundo Sosa
#13 – Jake Woodford
#14 – Jordan Hicks
#15 – Dylan CarlsonThe tired line of winning percentage is amusing but Matheny apologists go to the old tried and true shtick. Matheny is a horrible tactician and I have provided you proof and evidence of that fact, you refuse to listen.
And I will bring up the fact that Matheny did inherit a championship team and rightfully took them to the NLCS and a WS within 3 years of taking the reigns. But we all know how those games played out when Matheny was out managed by more experienced managers. The fact is he has managed for 6 years and still makes the same mistakes and overworks guys in the bullpen.
You’re defense of Matheny defies logic. Advanced stats, observations, the eye test and more convincingly show Matheny is a poor manager and a poor in game manager and yet you will defend him.
Matheny apologists are so insufferable its amusing.
The amount of evidence that points to how bad Matheny is as manager is through the roof and yet the apologists refuse to see the daylight.
And that’s only like 1/100 of the evidence against him, but even then the apologists will ignore it and act like Matheny the best thing since sliced bread.
I personally didn’t have a problem with him saying he didn’t want days off. A lot of people made it a bigger issue than it was.
See if he figures it out? He’s had 6 years and still makes the same mistakes. He isn’t not going to get some “Aha” moment.
That’s what I find hilarious though. We have a guy who is still playing high caliber baseball at a premium position and certain fans are wanting to run him out of town for an unproven Carson Kelly. Then these same fans will whine and moan about a player not being loyal to the fans, city, team, etc.
I don’t understand the Molina hate by some fans. Its not Molina is not preforming because he is.
Can never have too many 2B on the team or in the system. Also, Mayers hasn’t been added yet which I am taking it as not a good sign for him come the offseason. He is a DFA candidate.
