All the way around this event was amazing! Glad the Cards got to participate after have the Field of Dreams Game taken away.
Reggie Jackson was asked to share how it felt coming back to this field and he took the studio guys and the fans to a history lesson:
The Brewers are losing 4-1 to the Padres, but it’s early out in SD. They’re playing in the 4th. The only other action I noticed was the O’s managed to sneak by the Yankees by a final of 17-5…Hey brother, can you loan me a couple of runs?
Haha!…Yeah ZTR, anytime they manage to get to the .500 mark it reminds me of Jimmy Durante in the film, It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad World…I think of, “The Big W”…
The Brewers are now losing 5-3 in the 6th at Jack Murphy Stadium. Adames a two run dong and then Frank Tatis Jr a solo dong.
Yelich loses one in the lights and Frank Tatis Jr comes around to score. 6-3 Padres in the home half of the 7th now. Still batting…….
The Brewers have stormed back with two runs in the 9th and tied the game 6-6 heading to the last of the 9th. Me and Whitey Herdog are on the couch watching. At the conclusion of this one will be a Palma Real cigar and a couple episodes of Dragnet.

UPDATE: Jake Cronenworth jacks a dong to RF down the line to win it 7-6 for the Padres with two outs in the last of the 9th. Back to 6.5 games out!
Really cool stuff last night. I am impressed with the maturity of Masyn Winn after reading some things about his experience playing at Rickwood Field.
And what a place for Kloffenstein to make his MLB debut. Just an overall great experience.
I did not like how the booth guys at times were oblivious to game action. Good announcers would not be so absorbed in interviewing the guests as to forget about the game. I sort of feel sorry for Kloff since his debut was treated as a matter of no consequence, if they were even aware of it at all.
I did enjoy the pre-game features and interviews, especially Reggie Jackson. It was disheartening to hear Bill Greason talk about the cold shoulder from his Cardinals teammates, but that was how it was in the mid 50s.
Back in the 70s, one of the guys who went through that came back to St. Louis to give a talk at some function concerning his alma mater, Vashon High School, and I was there with my dad. Asked how he and others could maintain poise in the presence of hostility and hate, he said ‘their conduct reflects upon their character and my conduct reflects upon mine’. That has stuck with me and I remember it as if it were yesterday.
I’ve found that to be the case no matter which network or game. Most, if not all, of the prattle only serves to distrct me from the game itself. It’s almost always too much for me to endure if I’m to enjoy watching a baseball game. The simple solution is the mute button which stays activated at least 99 pct. of the time. It’s been that way for what’s beginning to seem like forever.
I have my tv muted 95% of the time during a game. Most announcers are either glorified cheerleaders or are oblivious to the action on the field.
In the past I’ve tried watching with it muted and listening on the radio, but one or the other is delayed enough to make that unworkable. Probably done on purpose so you can’t do that. Radio announcers always had to be good at conversing with a gueat in the booth while keeping an eye on the game and interrupting the gueat as needed to report on events. The good ones did it smoothly, which is a skill in itself.
