What’s going on with this anyway? I read where some bozo said since you banned Pete Rose you have to ban Ohtani as well. I seriously doubt that will happen though, since he is the MLB cash cow.

Haha!…They’re not going to ban anyone. There was an article in the StL. paper today in which Billy Jr’s. illustrious son extols the benefits of legalized sports wagering. The headline for the article reads, “Why legalized sports betting would help Missouri and the Cardinals.” Anyone who’s been paying attention knows that gambling is now firmly entrenched in Big League baseball. All of the outcomes of games can now be questioned as to whether they’ve been rigged as a result of Rothstein’s influence…That’s simply a fact, kids.
Definitely not what MLB wanted. Manfred needs to get moving on an investigation ASAP. The speculation will get worse the longer this issue lingers without answers. My guess is the Feds may already have a good idea what has occurred. However, they will be reluctant to release information until charges are filed and cases closed against all thought to have acted illegally.
Here’s another headline. This one from CBS Sports from almost a year ago…”How MLB is trying to embrace legalized gambling without ostracizing fans–or risking it’s integrity.” Haha…Good Luck!
Here’s another one from today. This one’s from Bloomberg Business News…”Ohtani Scandal Spotlights Sports’ Messy Embrace of Gambling.” It’s deteriorated to the level of a fixed craps game…
Yeah, big time sports are walking a fine line embracing gambling. We now have two professional teams in Las Vegas, with perhaps a third one on the way soon.
Sounds like this story is Ohtani’s interpreter who has the problem, and not Ohtani. And the interpreter has been fired by the Dodgers, so we will see where it goes from here.
It will be interesting to see if anyone is taking the heat for someone else or covering anything up. The story has already changed. As the onion is peeled back, it could get ugly. MLB isn’t going to want that. Keeping it contained to a rogue employee sounds familiar…

Indeed. And how a rogue employee might be persuaded to roll with that will make a good read. Someday.
What makes gambling such a dangerous vice is that it’s directly connected to greed which obviously leaves the door wide open for corruption. It’s only a simple matter of time before the outcome of any sort of contest is called into question.
But MLB wants (and is getting) a piece of the legalized gambling pie. It is an impossibly fine line to walk.
In the never ending pursuit for increased revenues and improved bottom line sometimes a line is crossed that is difficult to uncross. I’m sure MLB will do everything in its power to make sure the image of the $700M man is not tarnished too severely.
There’s already been instances this year alone of games looking suspicious because of the betting line moving heavily in a certain direction. I hate how sports league have embraced sports gambling.
Gotta love Casino Jon. Ohtani’s interpreter steals $16 million and bets $180 MM in total but he gets praise for not betting on baseball. Wonder who put him up to this doozy of a take?

Good restraint? He probably advises team owners on the most lucrative way to profit from legal wagering on MLB games…

Since Wonder Boy isn’t a Cardinal it won’t bother me if he catches a long suspension or even a lifetime ban.
Whatever happens will probably get shoved off into next year.

Yeah, that is really stretching to find a silver lining. It’s kind of like saying, “Hey, I did a lot of drugs, cocaine, meth, you name it, but I stayed away from heroin so I got that going for me.”
If Ohtani is innocent he will sue the Angels. The interpreter was employed by them.
I’m guessing Ohtani and/or his agent chose the guy and worked out the employment arrangement.
Our recent forefathers had it right. Vegas and Atlantic City only. For the betterment of society, do not make gambling easily accessible. Now it’s everywhere, and many are paying the price. As far as Ohtani goes, I find it quite amazing that no safeguards were in place and that this interpretor could pull off what he did over 2 or 3 years without detection. Everyone in Ohtani’s entourage, other than his maid and butler services, needs to be immediately pink slipped.
