With 22 games left at current rotation with no skipping a starter with off days it goes
Gomber games 1,6,11,16,21
Flaherty 2,7,12,17,22
Gant 3,8,13,18
Wainwright 4,9,14,19
Miles 5,10,15,20That leaves Flaherty for the last day of the regular season if it means something, if all is set and the last day does change anything he can be skipped and used game 1 of the playoffs.
Probably need to threw Stanley Espinal in as First base/DH option and Figuera in the middle infield.
Agree should have a lot of interesting position prospects to monitor in Peoria.
This Torres received in the Mercado trade is doing quite well in the GCL at a very young age. Will be impressive if he can make the jump to Peoria.
Either fox track ball strike tracker needs serious recalibration or this umpire is having a very bad day.
Probably want to add Zach Jackson at JC.
Soto has had a strange year. Started fast at JC appeared to be one of there top bats, then slumped and before you knew it was back at GCL. With a small sample size he is struggling at GCL with avg below .200
As far as ranking:
I still have Kelly above Kinzer both in the top 10. Will be interesting when rosters expand and Memphis also in the AAA playoff hunt. Could see Kelly come to StL as 3rd catcher and Kinzer get the AAA playoff experience.
Ortega has always had a rep as good defensive catcher. He has hit well this year. I will start to vote for him in that 20 to 30 range.
Next 4 will put in order Soto, Herrera, Rodriguez, Jackson and start voting for them in 40 and up range.
Nunez hit HR #7 today. You know you are doing well when you go 1 for 3 and 2 for 5 in a DH and your average goes down.

Last 6 pitches Hicks threw were all sliders. Got a couple generous calls was a solid weapon for him today.

Question on the international cap space involved. Does money actually change hands or is the two teams fixed “budget” simple adjusted on the pool of money they can spend.

As far as the DSL, I tell myself to wait for guys to get state side before getting to excited. Guys like Ynfante and Sanchez have yet to translate DSL success to performing state side.
With that said there are several guys with very impressive numbers across the 2 DSL clubs. Nunez is now batting over .400. And Carlos Soler a guy they gave $600k to in their big spending year is putting up impressive numbers.
Need to get these guys state side next season and see how they hold up.
Have currently 9 and if Hudson gets a start 10 starting pitchers who made a start this year returning.

Interesting prospect I saw yesterday: 19 yo #STLCards 3B Elehuris Montero. He’s BIG and hits for power, but he also makes good contact and is relatively quick for his size. Clocked him at 3.68 seconds moving 1st to 2nd at full speed.

In my mind the bullpen choices attempted by the front office over the last couple of years so far have been the biggest reason for the organization decline. Norris has worked out but:
Gregerson, Cecil, Holland have all been a huge waste. Leone via trade was not impressive at the time of injury.
Perez with game of his career so far tonight. Ground rule 2 rbi double added to his three singles. Throw a walk on top of that and he has been on base all 5 times.
Because of MLB blackout policy I did not get to watch the game. I did follow on gameday and see online video highlights.
The audio over the highlight of Carpenter error in the 7th was Bob Brenly of the Dbacks crew saying an example of the unfocused and undisciplined fielding practices he witnessed in how the cardinals go about their pregame work.
Obviously no first hand knowledge but found the comment very interesting.
Some thoughts:
1. Gorman comment above, rather he gets time at SC or not this year I will assume he is destine for Peoria assignment to start 2019.
2. Machado after struggling in Peoria is doing very well in JC. Sort of the path Sierra took a few years ago at what I believe was the same age. Struggle in Peoria went back JC for strong finish then returned to Peoria the following year and had a very good season.
3. Interested in the year Cedeno can but together if he stays health.
4. Have three catchers sharing time at JC. HS draft pick Johnson and Soto both hitting well. Both $400k signees.
Regarding Nunez, playing 3rd and batting 3rd for dsl blue squad today.
Did not take long to put him to work.
Pirates have 4 lefthanded bats up in a row, all productive: walk, double, Sac fly, double. Cards have 3 lefthanders in the pen and none are even warmed up. Makes you shake your head.
Just got notification. The gold glove department has issued a recall notice on Ozuna’s award.
I was going to make a similar post this morning about how many top prospects have graduated or more than likely will graduate this summer from the top prospect list.
Have: Flaherty, Kelly, Bader, Hicks
Will likely: Reyes, O’Neill, Muñoz
If called upon to be bullpen arms could see some combination of Gomber, Hudson ( sure wonder how that slider would play as a 7th inning guy), Helsley.
Even with a hell of a draft looks like the system will drop towards the bottom of the overall rankings in the off season. An important reminder at that time will need to be how much young inexperience talent is on the 40 man roster that is no longer qualified for prospect status.
Wainwright arm angle looks way lower, velocity way down, he his going to have to get by on guts and off speed stuff.
