12:05 CT Game 1 RHP Luke Weaver (5-8, 4.72) vs. LHP Mike Montgomery (3-3, 3.91) FOX Sports Midwest, MLB Network (out of market), KMOX
6:15 CT Game 2 RHP John Gant (3-3, 3.49) vs. RHP Tyler Chatwood (3-5, 5.04) FOX Network, KMOX
July 20, 2018 at 11:08 pm #61144Brian,
Can you change Mike Montgomery to a LHP?And we got what I wanted
What is wrong here, this is all messed up.
July 20, 2018 at 11:19 pm #61148Sorry about the mistake on Montgomery. It is corrected now.
July 21, 2018 at 3:18 am #61153I am still getting those error messages when I post. And it posts some stuff and other words/sentences fail to appear.

stlcard25ParticipantThese two games are big, obviously. If the offense can maintain momentum, the Cubs’ starters are very pedestrian so they should score some runs. Chatwood in particular is very wild. This will be a test of depth with both the righty and lefty. I’d expect Bader to start one of the two and probably Martinez as well.
It will come down to which Luke Weaver shows up in game 1. He’s had some good outings of late and if he can give us a quality start, I think that’s a win for the Birds.
In game 2, Gant has been sneaky good this year. Do we know who the 26th man for this game is? Poncedeleon would seem to be a good candidate to eat innings if need be.
July 21, 2018 at 8:23 am #61173I believe Weaver will be the 26th man. It has not been 10 days since he was optioned out.
July 21, 2018 at 8:37 am #61175
stlcard25ParticipantOh, I’d forgotten about that. With all these games, a long man would seem to be a nice bonus. Even having someone like Gomber available yesterday to take the last 4 innings would have been nice. Seems a bit short-sighted, in hindsight. Hopefully Luke and John can whittle up the Cubs for 6-7 innings each today.
July 21, 2018 at 8:53 am #61179I believe Mike Mayers is your long man. We obviously don’t know how Shildt will use him, but Matheny (who generally did not have relievers pitch long outings) had Mayers throw more than one inning 10 times already this season.
July 21, 2018 at 9:10 am #61183
stlcard25ParticipantTrue, and I thought of Mayers. Hopefully it’s all a moot point as the Cards pummel the shaky Cubs pitching staff unmercifully in both games. ?
July 21, 2018 at 9:35 am #61189Is it going to be Jekyll or Hyde today?
July 21, 2018 at 10:04 am #61192Hopefully the Jekyll version. We should know fairly early, as the “Hyde” Weaver will have trouble locating his pitches, and fall behind in the count too often.
If he can throw first pitch strikes, and stay ahead in the count on a regular basis we will be in the game.
On another note, what is with this batting order Maddon is using with Rizzo leading off? I know Rizzo has struggled this year, so maybe he is experimenting trying to get guys going. But he (Maddon) is acting quite Matheny-like in shuffling guys all over the batting order.
July 21, 2018 at 10:41 am #61197Game 1. Pham up to fifth.
Today's #STLCards lineup (7/21)
Carpenter 1B
Molina C
DeJong SS
Ozuna LF

Garcia 3B

stlcard25ParticipantI still kinda liked him at the end of the lineup because he could be a table setter for the top of the order, especially late in games. But if he’s got his stroke back I don’t mind having him in an RBI spot.
July 21, 2018 at 1:51 pm #61212What, no posts???
Carpenter with another homerun.
But DeJong hits into a DP with the bases loaded in the 5th to keep the score 1-1. It was a 1-2-3 DP.
And now the Cubs get to Weaver and plate a run to take a 2-1 lead and have runners at the corners with still nobody out.
This one is probably a lost cause. Weaver is now out.

July 21, 2018 at 1:58 pm #612133-1 with four innings to go as Ozuna kind of threw out Baez at the plate. Too early to assume how it will end.
July 21, 2018 at 2:42 pm #61215NJ315
ParticipantLyons not effective. 4-2 Cubs still hitting bottom 7th
July 21, 2018 at 2:45 pm #61216NJ315

July 21, 2018 at 2:46 pm #61217NJ315
ParticipantLa Stella singles 7-2
July 21, 2018 at 2:46 pm #61218NJ315
ParticipantOut comes Lyons in comes Gregerson.
July 21, 2018 at 2:51 pm #61219This bullpen is absolute trash! 4 guys with ERAs over 7. What a freaking joke.
July 21, 2018 at 2:54 pm #61220The #STLCards believe they have a strong second-half run in them. But it's not going to happen with this bullpen. That's 38 runs (and counting?) allowed by the 'pen in the team's last nine games.

ParticipantVery poor bullpen management both yesterday and today.
July 21, 2018 at 2:57 pm #61222I’ve been a Cards fan since I 1990 when i was 5 years old and this is the worst bullpen I’ve ever seen.
July 21, 2018 at 3:06 pm #61223In my mind the bullpen choices attempted by the front office over the last couple of years so far have been the biggest reason for the organization decline. Norris has worked out but:
Gregerson, Cecil, Holland have all been a huge waste. Leone via trade was not impressive at the time of injury.
