Yesterday I noted some of our prospects that were having dry spells. Only Sosa read the damn thing and went 5 for 7 in the S-Cards DH loss.
Mikolos is not a FA after next season. He will be an arb1 player. However he coukd set an arb1 salary record or come close to it because previous year’s salary has a large influence and I doubt many have hit arb1 with that salary base.
CC..I did not know that… that is actually pretty awesome….that makes MOz’s deal for him even better than i thought…
controlling him gives us so much more value…we could trade him potentially for a Quintana or Gray like deal if we wanted with how he is playing…
would our old pals in Seattle be interested in a swap? a Seager deal involving Mikolas
there are a lot of teams that would love to have a guy like Mikolas even at his arb numbers after next year
Miles Mikolas might be our best pitcher so far this year. If he keeps this up, he might become untouchable.
I’m totally impressed by Mikolas, but this is still May 22th and there’s a lot more to the ’18 ride left to go. I’m not going to pin the CY award on him yet, but damn he is doing some fine pitching for this team right now. He has made the loss of Martinez more bearable.
Warner’s great performance yesterday earned him a 96 GS… best so far in the organization. The opposition was Lakeland a middle of the pack hitting team, it wasn’t Ft Myers or Clearwater. He is the most successful pitcher in the organization for the last month! Not close.
Warner is another guy the Cards brushed up and cleaned off. One has to wonder how high can he climb in the organization. He has already widely exceeded expectations.
Btw… he has taken over the FSL lead in Ks. Kruczynski is now 3rd.
Pretty lousy Tuesday for the organization 1up and 4down. And it took a ninth inning sac-fly by Yariel Gonzales to produce one run in nine innings for a Chiefs 1-0 win… they had just 3 hits. Seijas pitched 6.1 innings of scoreless ball. GO Chiefs.
I hope Derian Gonzalez and Junior Fernandez get back pitching soon. It seems like an important year for both of them as they are nearing callup possibilities.
5/23-These are the starting rotations for our affiliates:
MEMPHIS AAA
HUDSON-GOMBER-PONCEDELEON-HELSLEY and Herget/Gilmartin (both with 3 nearly identical starts) one will need to go to the ‘pen (probably Gilmartin) with the arrival of Helsley. With Reyes due to join the Cards on 5-29, Herget will go to the pen and Gant is back in MEM. All bets are off when CMartinez comes back to the big team.SPRINGFIELD AA
WOODFORD-GREENE-JONES-ELLIS-SHEW. Reports are that Tewes is ready to return, which means that Shew may return to Palm Beach. Ellis and Evans back to the S-Card pen. O’Reilly may return to to SPFD as a starter?PALM BEACH Adv-A
KRUCZYNSKI-WARNER-OXNEVAD-MEISNER. There is an open spot or two right now that could be filled by Kilichowski or Fernandez (if he returns from the DL soon). OR Jake Walsh from PEO, who has been their most consistent starter.PEORIA Full-season-A
WALSH-GUILLORY-SEIJAS-OVIDO-PRENDERGAST. They have a stretch of 9 games in 6 days coming up and will need to go with either Nicasio, who had started earlier in the season for the Chiefs but was ineffective, or Balisteri who started 12 games last season at State College short-season A, to fill in. OR someone from EST Casadilla-Changarotty-Oca-Pirela-Rondon-Schlesener-Summerville-Villalobos-Hamann are possibilities.If Walsh is needed at PB, PEO will need two from the pitchers mentioned in the last paragraph.
Summerville had the stats from last year to justify being in Peoria. Not sure why he has been held back.
Dann Billardo channels his enter Mike Matheny and benches Chase Pinder after his 3-4 day brings his average up to .200.
I’m also puzzled with the exclusion of Summerville at low-A. It could be an injury. Oviedo is clearly not right and may be pulled from the rotation. Prendergast is filling in nicely right now for Nicasio.

Most would take 88 wins, I bet, though in this set of numbers, it is one game short of a wild card.
Last season, 87 wins were good enough.

It would be difficult to argue with the names on their top-10.This is a very top heavy set of prospects. Heavier than any other MLB team, no one lower than AAA.
Hudson is quietly 6-1 at Memphis (GS avr.=67.75 in last four starts).
Mercado is .523 in last 10 games.I was going to make a similar post this morning about how many top prospects have graduated or more than likely will graduate this summer from the top prospect list.
Have: Flaherty, Kelly, Bader, Hicks
Will likely: Reyes, O’Neill, Muñoz
If called upon to be bullpen arms could see some combination of Gomber, Hudson ( sure wonder how that slider would play as a 7th inning guy), Helsley.
Even with a hell of a draft looks like the system will drop towards the bottom of the overall rankings in the off season. An important reminder at that time will need to be how much young inexperience talent is on the 40 man roster that is no longer qualified for prospect status.
I had pointed out earlier that once Helsley was promoted back to Memphis, our prospects 1-14 are all with either St. Louis or Memphis. I also wrote about the likely drop in farm system rankings coming. Their main hope to slow the slide would be if they hit a home run in this draft, as none of the high-dollar international players in the lower levels have yet to step up. The system is in the middle now and may be destined for the lower third.
Prendergast going on the DL couldn’t come at a worse time for the Peoria rotation. They’re not looking forward to the 5 games in 3 days coming up starting Tuesday. Prendergast was due to start today and may be replaced by Fagale. Tuesday they’ll have Guillory ready for one game and the second game open, Wednesday Balestieri should make that start and then on Thursday they have two spots open.
Options are: a bullpen start; Summerville, who was just promoted from EST; Pearce who finished his 50 game suspension and will be looking for a start out of EST; Oviedo, who was passed over for his last start; Nicasio who was ineffective in April and replaced; or a starter from EST
-The original rotation was Walsh-Oviedo-Guillory-Seijas-Nicasio.
-Prendergast replaced Nicasio.
-Walsh was promoted to Palm Beach.
-Fagalde made one start and Balestieri made two unproductive starts.
-Now Prendergast is DLed.
-Guillory and Seijas are the only two making every start.
-There has already been a bullpen start for Saturday’s double-header.Manager Chris Swauger has some patch-working to do for this upcoming week and I’m interested to see how this all plays out. There may be some career-changing opportunities involved.
MEMPHIS is at 31W and 2L, 5 games up and 8-2 in their last 10
SPRINGFIELD is 27-23, 2.5 games behind. This weekend they picked up valuable and hard-fought ground on 1st place San Antonio (now 30-20) by sweeping the Missions.
PALM BEACH finds themselves 3.o games out in 2nd place with a 26-19 record.
PEORIA is 25-23 after losing 3 out of 4 to 1st-place Quad Cities(HOU) this weekend and are now 2 games out in 4th place.
From the Chiefs 8-3 loss yesterday… it could have been worse. Catcher Ortega picked off 2 base runners, one at second and one at third. OFers Hurst and Fiedler each had OF assists to nail runners at the plate.
Seijas is having an up and down season with very well pitched games followed by poor starts…. Yesterday his line was 5.1IP 10H 4ER 5BB 1K GS=22, but when he’s on he is very good.

If the award was from 5-22 to 5-28 instead of the 21st to 27th, Helsley would have won the award without question. In his three AAA starts his GSs = 78-79-81. That’s what makes me believe in a prospect, to move up and still excel. Actually, his starts have been much better for Memphis than for Springfield.
I thought Mikolas was signed to a 2 year deal when he signed.7.5 million 2018, 8.000 million 2019.2020 Arb 1 like Carioca says.
I wonder how close Derian Gonzalez is to coming back? Maybe you place Derian on the 60 day DL and call up Helsley or Hudson? That would leave putting Leone on the 60 dat when activating Reyes.
According to what I have heard, Mikolas’ contract includes free agency at its end. Same as Seung-hwan Oh had. Two years and done despite service time.
