I agree about the hitting coach. I am also liking the new manager a lot.

But 8 of them were singles, and only one inning had more than two hits…

I get it. That’s the reason why they haven’t scored more than two. It’s still bad luck on sequencing, similar to the last two nights.

If Carpenter had been running, he could have been on 2nd

Instead, he gets erased by the DP

Feels like it was a bit too cute to pull Jack at 84 pitches after 6. I can’t tune in today so I don’t know if the Pirates had been hitting him hard and they just went at fielders or what?

The bullpen has looked really good since the shakeup, for the most part. Looking shakier so far today.

Schildt was in hurry to get to shreve, who hadn’t thrown for two games.
He wants hicks in the 8th and he pre-determined shreve throws today, so flaherty hooked.

Lets bat around and make sure Flaherty gets the W he deserves.

Last 6 pitches Hicks threw were all sliders. Got a couple generous calls was a solid weapon for him today.

Carpenter runs this time and is called safe as pitcher’s foot comes off bag

Nice win for the Cards. Some real grit to come back and win the series after the tough loss in game 1. Now on to two easier series (hopefully) and a chance to keep the momentum going!

Good job by Hicks and Norris to hold and save it. Nice for Flaherty to return to his earlier, more dominant form.
