Many teams have proven that building a winning team with home-ground talent works but Mo isn’t capable of doing it on his own. He needs someone or (some) people down at the farm who are capable of building (and/or selecting) the talent needed as a foundation for a competitive team. This way Mo can get out of his own way of making consistently bad contracts to fill in the gaps. Whatever calculus Girsch is using hasn’t worked in years. Because they don’t have anyone that knows what good talent is early on we’ll have to wade through bad contracts and the playing out of each player at the big league level. This way Mo can stay out of the light of trading good players away and keeping the mediocre for the fans. Mediocre players can be thought of as great with deceptive marketing schemes.
We all know Nitwitt is satisfied with mediocrity, otherwise he would have gotten rid of Mo long ago. Fans continue to fill the stadium because they believe in the deceptive marketing schemes. So I don’t expect any significant change and frankly I don’t have much hope in the future. The fans need to stop going to the games; that would probably force their hand.
There are winning organizations that have much better farm systems than the Cardinals. So we can’t blame high draft picking.
By the end of the month I think we’ll be lucky if this is a .500 team.
I think O’Neil is getting closer though. He’s starting to go the other way, staying inside the ball; but he’s still not trusting his hands.

Yes I notice the same thing. Defense just ain’t what it used to be. It’s an offense oriented game but Manfred caters to that.This is Donovan’s job to lose now. I know it’s early for him but he does need to get his average above .200 as soon as possible.
I don’t share everyone’s feelings on PDJ’s defense. He has gotten bailed out on occasion because Goldy will bail him out at first. When I judge good infield defense the primary thing I watch is how well did the throw hit Goldy at the chest. A good defender should be able to stand alone in the play and not require a baseman at any bag to bail him out. Judging how many errors one receives is a terrible way to judge a players defense. They would rather give a player a hit.
I would consider PDJ’s defense average at best. When you consider his offense, I believe he’s costing the Cardinals wins, none of which they can’t afford when fighting for a wild card.
Another Moises. I’d like to see these kids go opposite field on these outside pitches. Especially since these guys are expecting fastballs on 2-0 counts. At the major league level this can’t be counted on. This is what got Carlson in trouble when he first got called up. Wonder who the batting coaches are down there???

I give them too much credit, trying to make sense of this bizarre FO. It’s a very disappointing organization comparatively speaking, where it’s evident winning is on the list of priorities for many teams.
Many teams delay a good players service time and then make excuses for doing so because it’s against the rules. The Mo and Marmol DeJong interviews for example. Anyway, a good example of this is what happened to Kris Bryant. There are more benefits to delaying besides one year of arbitration three years from now.
For the Cards to win the division the Brewers would have to have many injuries. I just don’t see the Cardinals winning 90 games.
Don’t pay attention to the aggressive marketing schemes (extremely deceptive like commercials); make your own assessments, objectively.
Honestly, if your CEO doesn’t have winning as a priority you’re not going to win.
You guys are missing the fact that Mo is delaying the beginning of Gorman’s service time ($$$). Mo and Marmol are dumbing down the fans with deceptive excuses. I’m surprised you guys still think Mo’s main goal is to win. Someone please tell me what makes them think Mo’s motivation is to win?
We might see him next year but remember DeJong’s contract isn’t over until the end of next year.

Good point, Onyxgem; I couldn’t agree more. Fans would have looked at Shildt differently too had the streak not happened.
I guess Lovullo is okay with Middleton taking the loss early. Everything is up and in, right in pull hitters paradise!
Of course Mo is the problem. I think you’re being overly generous in your assessment of him. We have to ask ourselves why, or more importantly how, Nitwit (Dewitt) is okay with this product? I think Nitwit is more interested in making money than winning championships and Mo is helping him do that. You don’t have to win championships to be successful. It’s about being competitive to put fans in the seats and having an aggressive marketing campaign = VALUE.
You could have the best hitting coach in the world but if you don’t have the talent… I have to think that any batting coach worth a grain of salt would advise hitters to hit to all fields, take 2 strike approaches, and if you can’t catch up to a fastball sit on off-speed. These are things that aren’t being done on a consistent basis and some of them aren’t being done at all.

A broadcast about 2 weeks ago, Dan said Pallante was their longman. Maybe that’s who they have planned to back up Hicks.
I’ve never been a fan of their bullpen philosophy. It got a little better when they stopped treating the bullpen as starter rejects. The bullpen is just as important as the starter because they pitch almost as many outs per game. Took them a long time to realize that.
Alexa Datt was dressed down today. I wonder if they said something about the tight fitting tops that she’s been wearing. I know Al won’t like that if he’s working with her. lol
Last 2 games the lineup faced some pretty good pitchers in that they stayed middle away. Not much leaked over the plate and when it did they couldn’t hit it. I expect the same business tomorrow.
I don’t know if anyone else noticed by they were pulling the ball all night long. The Diamondbacks, from the 6th inning on, pitched outside the ENTIRE GAME and they never made the adjustment. It makes me wonder if every once in a while they take a little break and just try to hit homeruns. I don’t understand what else it could be. Why would Marmol allow this???
Thursday night they were hitting to all fields!
I agree bling, I think that’s why they went ahead and gave Hicks a chance.
Sure does get aggravating trying to see through all the deceptions of the front office.
Maybe part of their thinking is how will bringing up players play into their ability to be competitive every year. You can delay bringing players up by playing players with bad contracts. There have been plenty of them since the La Russa/Lunhow era. And it’s easy to deplete your farm if you only have a few good candidates and what do you do after that?
They make more money this way too, keep a higher attendance from year to year and it works better with their hardcore marketing agenda. The downside is their commitment to winning is farther down the list of priorities.
