Good to get the split after things looked a bit bleak there. Hopefully the bats will stay going.

    What happened to Tommy Edman?

    Left hip flexor discomfort.

If Edman goes to the DL, assume we might see Gorman? Or would they just go with Sosa or Donovan? It would be a shame to lose Tommy, as he’s been one of the few guys performing.

What happened to Gallegos? He has been inactive for 6 games and Helsley closed today.

Helsley was unhittable and only threw 6 times in the 8th so OM sent him out for the 9th.

Indeed stlcard25, this team can ill afford losing the likes of a Tommy Edman for a significant duration. Good question, JJ. We’ll have to get a Gallegos update. I think Helsley could have gone another 2 frames if he had to, Hammer. He was throwing free & easy……and very very fast.

Pugs, Helsley is showing a level of unhittablility I’m not sure I’ve seen from a Cardinal. Including Hicks.

Big comeback win. Huge hit by Bader. Was impressed that the field management team ran Helsley back out for the ninth, rather than go by the book used the last 25 years or so that reads “late inning relievers are allowed to pitch only one inning.”

He might have just earned the closers role. Thought it might take until June for that to happen, but right now he looks as good as anyone.

Gallegos struggled mightily two games in a row, blowing the game in the second one.

Helsley only needed six pitches in the 8th, then struck out all three in the 9th.

Even if Helsey takes over as the closer, Gallegos will fill a different pen role, yet he hasn’t for a week.

That’s my question. Has anyone with broadcasts even spotted him warming up? The inactivity is uncommon for him. Maybe he’s dinged up? Needs side work before reappearing? Something going on.

Maybe a mental break. No report of an injury.

Probably non-stop pfp drills! Gallegos did pick up a BS the game Arenado overthrow 1B for the final out, but that was a team meltdown, including Gallegos not covering 1B.

Helsley looks like a no-brainer to take over the closer role but you need to understand how that would have to happen. This could be his long awaited break out season.

Could Gallegos suspension be why we haven’t seen him. One game for a Pitcher = how many actual games/days?
