During a broadcast last month Jimmy said O’Neill sought council from Mark McGwire during the off season last year. He was ready in spring training last year. Maybe he should give him a ring.
So did they sign Reyes to a 1-year deal knowing he would need surgery?
2.85 Million is more than they’re paying Pujols this year.
May 23, 2022 at 5:23 pm in reply to: 2022 Cardinals MLB Game 41 thread – Sunday, May 22 at Bucs #186021I can’t get AppleTV on my old Firestick for whatever reason. I searched for it and the app is not in the list nor the option to ‘Get it’. So I would have to upgrade which is more money. Extremely frustrating!
May 23, 2022 at 3:11 pm in reply to: 2022 Cardinals MLB Game 41 thread – Sunday, May 22 at Bucs #186013I’m surprised how many people here invested extra money into the extra channels needed to watch the games. You guys are way better fans then me lol
I missed Gorman’s debut and the 2 HRs that Pujols hit yesterday.
May 23, 2022 at 2:57 pm in reply to: 2022 Cardinals MLB Game 39 thread – Friday, May 20 at Bucs #186009I have to believe he’s been asked about playing another position and he’s fine with being just a DH. If your assessment of him is correct it would be a terrible waste to not surround him with talent. Goldy is the only one we have that can hit .300 and hits to all fields. By the time Walker is ready Goldy will be overly ripened.
I was surprised to see Ortiz get into the HOF and it’s disappointing.
May 21, 2022 at 2:45 pm in reply to: 2022 Cardinals MLB Game 39 thread – Friday, May 20 at Bucs #185810PDJ will probably warm the bench and give Edman rest when he comes back.
If I were a rookie and could only be a DH for whatever reason and I couldn’t field a position, I wouldn’t be as marketable to other teams. Unless Walker turns out to be a Big Papi. I wonder what Walker thinks about playing third base? Should he be held back because of the ineptitude of the front office? We already know the best hitters play even if their defense is suspect (remember Jose Martinez?). So subbing for Arenado is unviable. How else could he field a position?
Flaherty has already voiced concerns over how he has been marketing regarding his arm injury (slap tear). Walker would really have an argument.
Agreed bling and 14. Reyes started to decline after the all-star game and whether or not Shildt over used him is debatable but I don’t see how he can last a full season. He’s not getting any younger.
Yea how effective has it been for Hicks.

Does this indicate that through Mo’s calculus they will be playing the best players?
Hmmm…they didn’t do that under the Matheny or the Shildt era.
May 20, 2022 at 1:34 pm in reply to: 2022 Cardinals MLB Game 38 thread – Thursday, May 19 at Mets #185725Dan likes to point out that Pujols leads the MLB in hitting into double plays, all-time. I’m not a fan of Dickerson and I think it’s another bad trade. I’d rather see Pujols in there even though his defense has hurt the team with errant throws and a few bad picks.
Maybe Mo’s calculus told him Pujols is a little better right now. I’m sure Mo ordered Marmol to keep him in there. As long as he continues to get on base.
I don’t share the view of some others here that we have a chance in the playoffs (or even to make it) and I’d like to see Pujols in the lineup. Nothing is more exciting to me than watching Pujols at the plate. It brings me back to a better time when there was hope and winning was important to the organization.
I work with a guy who pitched in the minors. He said things started out great but in his 2nd year he couldn’t keep up with the demand and his arm worsened as the season wore on.
You can’t enter and leave a pitching rotation because your arm needs more rest than others in the rotation. You have to be able to pitch every 4th or 5th day. So durability is the biggest attribute of success other than having good stuff.
The biggest problem the MLB has seems to be an emphasis on throwing instead of pitching. You don’t need to throw 90 MLB to be effective but it takes less talent as a coach to teach throwing than it does to teach the art of pitching.
So there you go it comes down to the development again.
Gorman will be okay to start with, it’s how he makes adjustments to the pitchers once they find his weaknesses. Then he’ll have to adjust again. We’ll see.
I’m very impressed with Yepes and his ability to make adjustments during an at-bat. I noticed today he abandoned his wide 2-strike approach stance. You have to wonder why anyone would tinker with what’s working well but he does soak up Pujols’ dogma like a sponge. We’ll see if he continues to “choke up” with 2 strikes.
May 19, 2022 at 6:11 pm in reply to: 2022 Cardinals MLB Game 38 thread – Thursday, May 19 at Mets #185661Hicks is not a starter and never should have left the pen. Liberator should replace Hicks and that would solve a few issues. My only concern is that Hicks seems to thrive on 4 days rest.
I guess they saw all they needed from PDJ in the minors. They’ve made so many bad decisions in the past, it takes Mo forever to make decisions. He has to play everything out so he can’t be blamed for anything by the media. It seems like it would be easier if DeWitt would just hire someone better qualified to run his business.
The bullpen hasn’t been good since the 80s in my opinion, so it’s easy to select 1 or 2 from there to go down.
May 19, 2022 at 5:30 pm in reply to: 2022 Cardinals MLB Game 38 thread – Thursday, May 19 at Mets #185654Gallegos is not a closer and I’m sure Mo’s calculus will reveal this. This isn’t the first time this season he’s blown a lead/game. Without substances he’s not the pitcher they thought he was. So hopefully Mo can remember to tell Marmol not to use him as a closer.
It was good to see the Cardinals fight their way back a few times. Mets defense is not very good and it will cost them games as the season rolls on. If it wasn’t for our bullpen we probably would have won the last 2 games.
They didn’t give up on Carpenter. They even put him in the 3rd and 4th hole to give those guys rest.
May 15, 2022 at 7:23 pm in reply to: 2022 Cardinals MLB Game 34 thread – Sunday, May 15 vs. Giants #185283Yea Pugs, he’s a good hitter. A guaranteed 2-strike approach with him too.
May 15, 2022 at 7:16 pm in reply to: 2022 Cardinals MLB Game 34 thread – Sunday, May 15 vs. Giants #185280Looks like they taught Yepez to run the bases too aggressively. Apparently this is coming from Mo since this has been there Modus Operandi since the Matheny era.
May 15, 2022 at 6:16 pm in reply to: 2022 Cardinals MLB Game 34 thread – Sunday, May 15 vs. Giants #185270This is the last meeting between the 2 teams. It’ll be 4-3 or 3-4 for the season.
May 15, 2022 at 6:11 pm in reply to: 2022 Cardinals MLB Game 34 thread – Sunday, May 15 vs. Giants #185268I wasn’t aware Arenado had a hip problem last year that he fixed with flexibility in the off-season. Wonder why they couldn’t tell us about that on any of the Bally’s broadcasts.
I prefer watching the Cardinals on neutral stations like ESPN where I can get honest information. They also focus on the game. Dan often diverts his analyst’s attention with endless stats and repetitive feel good stories.
Difficult to judge without knowing if the opposing pitcher was any good. But progress is progress.
I would like to know how much blame we should give to the development of players regardless of where we get them. Can mediocre talent be coached to be great and can great talent be made mediocre. When players get traded to other organizations is there an unlearning process of bad habits or mental approach that happens between organizations?
I’m talking about hitting at the farm level. It seems defense and base running would be based more on universal principles that can be improved upon with practice as opposed to talent.
forsch,
No, I wasn’t implying anything – sorry. The organization wants me to go to a game and I won’t support Mo. Can’t do it.
I’m a fan and I support the team by watching their games (pay for the package). I’m just very disappointed and frustrated with the CEO… and Nitwitt for that matter.
They aren’t doing well in 2022?
That’s some expensive entertainment. I can’t do it knowing what I know… Ugh
