bccran,
As I’ve already said it’s my opinion.
bccran,
Finally we agree on something.
bccran,
They won’t get me, I don’t use them.
willie,
You don’t have to point anything out to me. I got you covered. I already mentioned his starts and reliever ERA are lumped together. And yes, every reliever can pitch to more than 3 batters. I can’t believe I have to point that out here.
Yea I don’t know. I remember the game where he had no secondary pitches and had to throw nothing but fastballs. He was successful that game but I remember him getting bailed out often.
There has to be someone here that watched him down the stretch last year. Someone who watched the games, no stats after the fact.
bccran,
Oh we’re going back to that. I’m not a stats guy and because of that I probably don’t belong here. The last time I tried to look up a stat I got 4 different numbers. It’s like the night Pujols got the walk-off hit and they got the “# of times” wrong 3 times in one night (I posted here about it). Then there’s the pitcher’s win-loss record, the RBI, and the reliever’s ERA. In my opinion stats don’t tell the whole story.
Relievers aren’t like starting pitchers. Relievers pitch a minimum of 3 batters and they pitch until they get in trouble. They get bailed out almost every time they pitch, otherwise they wouldn’t take them out. So in my opinion a reliever’s ERA is about as useless as a pitcher’s win-loss record.
I just remember Woodford down the stretch and it wasn’t pretty. And I know his starter ERA and reliever ERA got lumped together.
Don’t forget this one:
“I don’t see him like you all do but I’m willing to give him a chance, which I think is all you guys are asking.”
“I remember last year as a starter he fizzled at the end. He had no control of his secondary pitches and in one game he threw nothing but fastballs. I think he pitched one more game after that and couldn’t get through the first couple innings. Didn’t see him after that in 2021.
This year I think he pitched a few innings in relief but I didn’t watch him pitch. Era isn’t entirely accurate for relievers since they get bailed out if they get in trouble. Stats don’t tell the whole story.”
Yes, bccran. I’m in agreement with everyone else. Keep listening to your facts. LOL!
Welcome Mr. Trump,
When did you become a Cardinals fan?
stlcard,
Make that two. I went against the grain on page one of this thread.
We’ve gotten used to hitters playing all around the field at the detriment of being good at one position. Errors (and errors not counted as errors) give the opposition more outs, something our pitching can’t afford.

The human element is being taken out of everything. Ted Kaczynski warned us about this. 😊
Reminds me of the infamous Reggie Jackson, Billy Martin incident where Jackson didn’t run out a fly ball in right & pulled him from the game. Billy pulled him into the dugout and they ended up trying to exchange blows.
Obviously there was something going on prior to pulling Bader we aren’t privy to.

On the 101.1 show last week, Alexa Datt and Smalls were hosting the show and were talking about Bader’s and Donovan’s hair on the radio.

June 12, 2022 at 5:01 pm in reply to: 2022 Cardinals MLB Game 61 thread – Sunday, June 12 vs. Reds #187754They were lucky to win 2 of 3. If the Reds had just a little better D in the series they probably would have swept the Cards at home.
Looked like Marmol (Was it Mo?) was trying to save the bullpen which helped the Reds win. Maybe the Pirates will be easier for them?
At some point we should see them slide and become more of what they really are. Closer to a .500 team. It’s very early in the season.
June 11, 2022 at 5:10 pm in reply to: 2022 Cardinals MLB Game 60 thread – Saturday, June 11 vs. Reds #187661It’s not just the pitching. The offense has to hit for the team, not for themselves. The pull hitting mentality is killing this team. Goldy and Donavan are the only 2 hitters going the other way. Nothing worse than a one dimensional hitter as far as offense is concerned. You face a good pitcher and it makes it even more difficult.
I look for Oneill to start going the other way now that his timing is back and for him to start hitting some HRs.

Maybe Pujols talked to him about it today? Extends the inning to Tommy for his walk-off. I think that was the only opposite field hit today.

I don’t think Marmol has ever squeezed. Mo might have told him no?
