Don’t forget they will be bringing back PDJ at some point. Lol
Good point, Brian. We’ll see if O’Neill is READY, when he comes back up. If he has to go down again that’ll look really bad.
They said O’Neill will go down after his shoulder heals but he needs to stay down there until he gets his swing back.
Not sure what else they need to see from Noot.
May 30, 2022 at 6:16 am in reply to: 2022 Cardinals MLB Game 47 thread – Sunday, May 29 vs. Brewers #186539Burns was pretty good. Our lineup is fine against average pitching but realistically it’s not going to hold up against good pitching. Goldy will be fine in the playoffs if they make it but u need better hitters against good pitchers & realistically the Cards don’t have them.
I think you also have to be able to hit the long ball if you’re unable to manufacture runs. Clutch hitting is important too. I just don’t see much in our lineup that makes me hopeful in a playoff run & that’s supposed to be what the season is all about.
I always thought what Hernandez did was more offensive than what Templeton did, whether it was behind closed doors or not. Regardless, it was offensive enough to trade him. Interesting how a cultures morals evolve over time.
I was 13 at the old Busch stadium when I learned he had been traded. Of course this was the year after they won the World Series. I was crushed.
Regarding Keith Hernandez… if Gary Templeton had better numbers (or better yet if he made the Hall of Fame) I wonder if he’d make the Cardinals hall of fame.
May 28, 2022 at 4:54 pm in reply to: 2022 Cardinals MLB Game 45 thread – Friday, May 27 vs. Brewers #186464I think gscottar has it right. Mo sets the starting lineup. You can smell the crap of the Modus Operandi going all the way back to the Matheny days.
Who is the only person in the organization that would replace a 3 and 4-hole hitter in the lineup with Matt Carpenter in his final season? You could bat him 9th but no, you put him in the number 3-hole. Who has the most to gain from this decision?
How long does a player have to be with the Cardinals before he can be considered? Re: Carlton
I mean why not Rollie Fingers, Will Clark, or John Smoltz.
I guess the more players you put in it the more watered down the whole thing gets.
May 27, 2022 at 5:56 pm in reply to: Former Cardinals in the News – 2017 to Aug. 2024 (closed) #186374Yesterday Bernie said something about Carpenter taking hitting advise from the Yankees that he refused to take with the Cardinals (Jeff Albert). Wonder what that was all about.
May 27, 2022 at 3:15 pm in reply to: 2022 Cardinals MLB Game 45 thread – Friday, May 27 vs. Brewers #186357They didn’t have any more payroll room left. A significant chunk of the payroll has been tied up in mistake acquisitions. Every year Mo makes bad signings and they compound year after year. Mo covers this up by keeping them on the roster but knowledgable fans know what’s going on. Because of Mo’s ineptitude they can only address 1 critical need per year while having the 10th highest payroll in baseball.
May 27, 2022 at 1:35 pm in reply to: 2022 Cardinals MLB Game 44 thread – Thursday, May 26 vs. Brewers #186355Gorman played right into the Brewers’ hands. They know how to pitch power hitting rookies who like the ball up.
Pujols can still get to the high fast ball better than anyone, past or present that I can think of.
1982,
I agree, Yepez was doing so well too. I think they were feeling desperate because the manufacturing wasn’t working anymore and everyone started cheating for the HR. Even Goldy was caught looking with 2 strikes. They weren’t able to steal bases and get guys into scoring position and when they did the pitching prevented them from scoring. It was a good game when you consider what is at stake.May 26, 2022 at 4:13 pm in reply to: Former Cardinals in the News – 2017 to Aug. 2024 (closed) #186286Yea they said on 101.1 that Carpenter released himself from the Rangers so who knows. I wonder if Mr. Weaver fact checked his sources.
May 26, 2022 at 4:08 pm in reply to: 2022 Cardinals MLB Game 44 thread – Thursday, May 26 vs. Brewers #186284Forearm. He has the same thing O’Neill has lol
Seriously though, we now know it doesn’t matter rest wise if he pitches every 5th day or if he pitches more often in the bull pen.

May 26, 2022 at 10:33 am in reply to: 2022 Cardinals MLB Game 44 thread – Thursday, May 26 vs. Brewers #186267We need our best players on the field to play the Brewers, especially with Carlson & O’Neill out. We’ll see what MO’s calculus says about this when we see the starting lineup.
Is this the first time Dickerson has had limited playing time in his career? Some guys need to play everyday. You would think Mo would take this into account but I don’t have confidence in MO’s ability at all.
Bling said it before I could. +1
May 25, 2022 at 3:58 pm in reply to: 2022 Cardinals MLB Game 43 thread – Tuesday, May 24 vs. Blue Jays #186233Maddux has been with a lot of teams. He is either expensive to retain or not very good (methods are dated).
Thanks gscottar that’s terrible timing then. Mo can’t catch a break. I guess there were time constraints in the arbitration.
May 25, 2022 at 10:15 am in reply to: 2022 Cardinals MLB Game 43 thread – Tuesday, May 24 vs. Blue Jays #186213Lol … that’s where the deceptive marketing schemes makes them look silly. It’s more dumbing down of the fans.
You can’t be upfront because you expose the ugly realties of the organization & baseball for that matter.
May 25, 2022 at 9:57 am in reply to: 2022 Cardinals MLB Game 43 thread – Tuesday, May 24 vs. Blue Jays #186208Until then u have to plan on depleting your pen on the days Hicks pitches which weakens your effectiveness to save games for a few games thereafter. I guess Mo’s calculus shows this to be the best way to limit your losses.
May 25, 2022 at 9:52 am in reply to: 2022 Cardinals MLB Game 43 thread – Tuesday, May 24 vs. Blue Jays #186207If I had to guess they’ll wait till Flaherty comes back which was the reason for the move to begin with. Flaherty is on track for mid June supposedly.
May 25, 2022 at 8:26 am in reply to: 2022 Cardinals MLB Game 43 thread – Tuesday, May 24 vs. Blue Jays #186203I wonder if I should repeat my reply to this post again?
Because Marmol pitches guys for multiple innings the good pitchers guys aren’t available often. They need Hicks back in the pen. Their bullpen is a weakness and has cost them games already.
If he comes back from that surgery it will be the first ever with that type of injury. I don’t understand why they would take that risk.
