Strike 1: The talent we have just isn’t as good as the talent elsewhere. Don’t listen to the hype, look at the results. I don’t jump up and down like Dan does during the game as the team beefs up its stats playing weak teams. I pay attention to how the team plays against good teams. That’s the bar.
Strike 2: Trying to fill in the holes with failed contracts Mo gives out every year.
Strike 3: Mo is running the team from above.

I don’t know if the Cardinals are the fly in the ointment here (i.e. Matt Carpenter) or if the player is to blame. But I wonder where Mo ranks among GMs in giving bad contracts and I’d like to hear Dewitt’s opinion on that result.
Dewitt must be comparing Mo to GMs in all organizations, not just the Cardinals.
They play the Reds tonight so hopefully they can win the series. The Reds always play them tough so we will see.
Looking forward to watching O’Neill tonight. Maybe Pujols can hit a HR off some mediocre pitching in the series. Not much else to look forward to other than possible PDJ coming back up soon. Not sure who I’d rather have in the lineup, Yepez, Dickerson or PDJ. Yepez has really disappointed me. He got all that information from Pujols and then he started pulling off everything. He stopped doing all the things that had him hitting to all fields. He has even discontinued his 2-strike approach. What does Pujols think of this???
It’s funny when you think about his 2 strike approach stance. It tells the pitcher exactly what he’s doing so the pitcher can attack him accordingly. I often wonder with this team if the batters have free reign to do what they want at the plate.
I’d like to know about the shake-up the Cardinals are supposed to have. Edmonds was talking about it during the game and mentioned it twice.
In some of the recent drafts, Mo has tried to fix the lack of offense with offensive picks to the detriment of pitching depth.
MO has wasted so much money (and seasons) on bad contracts, trying to fix the holes that he can’t fill urgent needs.
I would like to know where O’Neill went when he was gone because his timing at the plate looks much better this time around. Did he call Mr. McGwire???
Pitching has really been a problem where it used to be a strength, organizationally. Bullpen has always played second fiddle but… playing good teams will reveal your weaknesses and let’s you know where you stand.
They need to work on their fundamentals and this falls squarely on Marmol. I say work on, not get back to because I haven’t seen many of the fundamentals that are important for a winning team this year. We will see how they deal with yesterday’s embarrassment by how they play today.
It was good to see Yepez atone for his mistakes in the field: hotdogging and throwing to the wrong base. Hopefully Marmol was watching and talks to him about it. Fundamentals are important.
That’s why I was wondering what the Yankees were teaching him that he refused to follow in St. Louis. Bernie talked about it on the radio but I missed most of it.
Don’t know if anyone noticed the Pujols, career walk-off stats offered by the Bally’s production crew last night. I guess that’s who does the stats. Before Pujols walked it off the graphic showed Pujols as having 15 career walk-offs (last one in 2011). While doing post game interviews in the dressing room the graphic showed 20 career walk-offs (last one in 2017). Then during the Pujols interview one of the reporters told Pujols that he thought he had 28 career walk-offs with the Cardinals (not career but with the Cardinals).
It appears the production crew is getting their stats from different sources and the reporting staff seems to be getting their stats from yet another source. There are all sorts of ramifications for giving out unreliable stats in this new generation of baseball.
I’m unaffected by this shortcoming (I do follow very basic line stats during a game) but I know people derive pleasure and money (betting) from stats. As long as the Cardinals aren’t doing it as part of their marketing, it’s seemingly harmless but it does make them look foolish. It might be important nowadays to give your source for stats before making claims. I mean if we are going to place such value on them.
I think Rats and I share the same opinion of what “clutch” is. That feeling in your gut when there’s a BIG moment in the game and who you would want up at the plate. Who has performed in those situations.
There are playoff clutch players too… just kidding.
It sure would be easier to follow the farm if they would give the fans a little info regarding important moves during pregame shows. They could even weave their marketing schemes into it as long as facts are there. I mean, what are they afraid of?
If you’re happy with him that’s all that matters, we are just fans. Carp is NYs problem, no thank you!
He’s predominately a pull hitter. He has the unique ability to stay behind the ball even when pulling outside pitches. In other words, he’s an excellent pull hitter.
I noticed Sunday he did go the other way once but it’s rare. I’ve said it before, they paid a lot of money for an excellent defender & a guy who can hit a lot of HRs IF pitchers don’t stay away. He’s also not a clutch hitter. So basically once Molina leaves, Goldy will be the only clutch hitter we have & in my opinion not as clutch as Molina.
I think clutch hitting is grossly undervalued & it should be one of attributes of a 30M dollar player.
Plummer was selected 23rd overall in the draft. It will be telling in terms of our ability to develop Plummer if he does well with the Mets. Something to keep an eye on. I wonder what our failure rate is on the development of high draft picks compared with other organizations.
Yea Nootbar, like PDJ, hasn’t been able to make the adjustment to what the pitchers are doing to him. Good pitchers will attack hitters according to the batter’s weakness and their approach at the plate. Good hitters will then realize and adjust to how pitchers are attacking them and the whole cycle begins again.
Yepez and Donavan are in adjustment mode. Scouts develop a “book” on rookies and then their weaknesses are exploited.
I’m limited to listening on the radio today. Ricky gave all the credit to the defense regarding the throw out of Gorman. Ricky is always drunk on the Kool-Aid so if there was any dawdling at the plate it could easily be ignored.
