Bader is the hitting star of the outfield at the moment. Kind of sums it up. Wouldn’t hurt to stick Edman out there somewhere if Gorman came up. But neither Donovan nor Sosa have come boiling out of the box on fire. No point rearranging the deck chairs if they all have three legs.

We should remember that Carpenter hit .169 last year and he got 249 PAs over 130 games. And that was after hitting .186 in 2020 and .226 the year before that. So we could be in for quite a spell before anything happens.

Why on earth use Woodford in the 9th inning mop-up role today, when the Redbird 3-inning starter is pitching tomorrow?!

Wouldn’t it have made a lot more sense to bring in Woodford directly after Hicks on Sunday? It really, really really feels like Marmol is using Woodford in every way possible to avoid giving him a chance to show he can be a starting pitcher. No long relief appearances, no high leverage. It’s as if Marmol literally doesn’t know that Woodford was solid last year, fantastic in September when given the chance to start, and then excellent again in Spring Training.

It’s as if Marmol slept through all of that. Or personally despises Woodford so much that Jake’s track record just doesn’t matter. (Maybe Jake protested when not given the 5th starter slot he earned in Spring Training, and Marmol is getting even with him, showing him who’s the boss. I dunno, but it makes more sense than any other explanation. It isn’t injury.)

Good observation Bob Reed, but another explanation is the analytics wonks think they know who should do what and when, and Ollie doesn’t want to generate any philosophical differences.

Alexa Datt was dressed down today. I wonder if they said something about the tight fitting tops that she’s been wearing. I know Al won’t like that if he’s working with her. lol

Last 2 games the lineup faced some pretty good pitchers in that they stayed middle away. Not much leaked over the plate and when it did they couldn’t hit it. I expect the same business tomorrow.

    Well, that was disappointing.

There seems to be one guy every year that I do not understand what the Cardinal brass is not seeing. This year seems to be Woodford.

DeJong is another one, although Sosa has not stepped up much in his few chances. He needs to get back to better pitch selection. He seems over anxious and is swing at too many pitches that are never strikes

But Jake has shown he can be effective when given some innings. Definitely don’t get that one.

A broadcast about 2 weeks ago, Dan said Pallante was their longman. Maybe that’s who they have planned to back up Hicks.

I’ve never been a fan of their bullpen philosophy. It got a little better when they stopped treating the bullpen as starter rejects. The bullpen is just as important as the starter because they pitch almost as many outs per game. Took them a long time to realize that.

Well I wasn’t able to watch game til this morning, had recorded it and avoided score. What a disappointment. Seems like very few are doing their jobs and that includes our manager. Mikolas pitched excellent and shouldn’t have gotten that loss. He was at 93 pitches after 7. Should have been taken out. If the Cardinals had been up 2-0, I guarantee they are bringing relief in, no difference here. Mikolas is coming off injury, no reason to extend. The only pitcher on this team that i think you might start another inning if he’s over 90 pitches is waino and that depends so that’s on the manager. Hitting wise we are just horrible in certain spots. Their pitcher who they did not trot out for another inning, threw really well. But there were pitches to get. O’Neil has struggled, Carlson has really struggled, Dickerson isn’t very good. Sosa hasn’t been great but they keep putting dejong in there more often than not so I say stick with Sosa for a few games instead of one. We aren’t getting rid of O’Neil or Carlson so those guys are going to have to start to produce or we are just going to be an average team at best. I don’t know if bringing Gorman up helps any. Donovan hasn’t exactly set the world on fire, not sure Gorman will. Ive never been a fan of the hitting coach but we are stuck with him. We lose today and no matter what happens with makeup game, it will be a very disappointing home stand if it isn’t already.
