By the end of the month I think we’ll be lucky if this is a .500 team.
I think O’Neil is getting closer though. He’s starting to go the other way, staying inside the ball; but he’s still not trusting his hands.
Good insight on O’Neill sjeff. Still think this is a good club and will be in the post season mix. But they have not played real well the last couple of weeks or so.
Good to see management not sitting on their hands, and instead are bringing in guys who are getting a chance to contribute. The $64K question is, how long before Gorman gets the call?
Gorman. Gorman. Gorman. So many of you keep talking about this guy like he’s the second coming. He’s going to take a mediocre team and transform it into something we all wish for. God knows I hope so. But I’ve got a strong feeling that some of you are in for a rather large bag of disappointment. He’s not going to turn all these .200 hitters into run-producing machines and carry us to the world series.
Or maybe he will. Rah Cardinals!
I think the biggest difference between this year and last year is that this year there are multiple young position players that will be ready for the call up from the farm.
Between that and the expanded playoffs (tournament) just hanging around .500 will get you in – whatever that means anymore. So, as they have since 2016 the club will play .500ish baseball and hope for one good hot streak to push their noses out just far enough.
Other than money there is no good reason to play a 162 game season when roughly 1/2 the teams qualify for the watered down playoffs but that’s how it is…..
I agree with you on every point, ZTR. The farm looks like it’s ready to harvest and I think it’s an easy call to say that some combo of Yepez, Gorman, Burleson, Donovan would be more valuable than than signing Dickerson and Pujols. But the Cards wanted insurance and the quantity over quality approach worked last year. We know that Mo is a master of returning to the same well long last the time it’s run dry.
