Right now, Arenado and Gorman “ain’t cuttin’ it”. Mo may need to make some decisions on them with the trade deadline looming. Mo might be able to get a future high end starter for Gorman. ex. Luzardo. The Cardinals would probably have to eat a lot of Arenado’s salary to get a decent player in return.
Are the Cardinals better, overall, with Pages at catcher? Handling the pitchers and deterring steals. Gray sure wasn’t an “Ace” today. An “Ace” needs to be more consistent than Gray has been, overall, lately. The Reds seem to have a “book” on Burleson this series. Let’s hope Burly analyzes how they were pitching him and makes the needed adjustments.
Now that we’ve seen quite a lot of ABs. Who do you predict will end the season with the highest batting average among the Cardinals regulars?
Arenado is a mess at the plate at the present time. And against a LHP that is struggling to throw stikes. If I were manager, Arenado and Gorman would likely drive me to drinking, right now. What is going on with those two? Ollie needs to go Winn, Donovan, Burleson, Goldy, Contreras, right now. The rest of the lineup is currently a “crap shoot”.
“I think Kurtz is overrated because he plays in a bandbox”. From some of the videos I’ve seen on Kurtz, many of his blasts would have been out of just about any baseball field. He’d look pretty good in uniform #8 for the Cardinals. I’d still prefer the lefty pitcher, Hagen Smith, if he falls to #7. RHP Burns may be my top choice. But he’ll likely go in the top 4. Wetherholt wouldn’t disappoint me either. He’d be kind of like another Burleson with more speed.
Siani, Winn, Burleson, Pages and now, possibly, Liberatore as far as pleasant surprises for the Cardinals this season.
Hope that Burleson doesn’t get injured and out of the lineup for an extended period of time. Same with Donovan. Those two are winning type ball players.
Tell me why this lineup doesn’t make sense, right now.

3) Burleson RF
4) Goldschmidt 1B
5) Contreras DH
6) Arenado 3B
7) Gorman 2B
8) Pages C
9) Siani or Carlson CFWhat team would be interested in acquiring Arenado? And would pay at least half his remaining contract salary. When Edman returns, Edman to 2B and Gorman to 3B would be some OK moves. Hopefully, the Cardinals could obtain some kind of pitching help for Arenado.
Winn seems to strike out a lot versus RHP. Is that a concern for him being at the leadoff spot? Of course, other than Donovan and Burleson, most of the others seem to strike out a lot. So there might not be many other options at leadoff.
Winn, Donovan and Burleson are currently the Cardinals top three hitters. They should be batting 1,2 and 3 in the batting order. Then Goldy. Then either Arenado or Contreras at 5 and 6. Right now, 7 is fine for Gorman. Nootbaar might be a factor in the lineup makeup fairly soon. I’d still go Winn, Donovan and Burly 1,2 and 3, for now. At least against a RHP starter.
It would be nice if Edman could return and re-establish himself before the trade deadline. It would give Mo another trade chip option for a needed starting pitcher.
One thing is obvious, Burleson can fricken’ hit. Much like Votto could and Soto can. Burly usually takes very competitive ABs against just about anybody. Much like Votto did and Soto does. Posters need to realize that underestimating Burleson usually doesn’t turn out too good for them.
ATM, I’m delighted about both Winn’s and Burleson’s current progress. Winn’s was more expected than Burleson’s. I’ve lauded Burly’s potential for a long, long time. I’ve compared him, potentially, to Votto (without the walk %). But as a pure hitter. Recently, I saw a poster comp Burly to Soto (without the walks). That’s some real praise. I guess time will tell.
I’ll be surprised if Ollie doesn’t stay with Winn/Burly at 1/2 tomorrow evening against Sale. Especially , if they are productive again tonite and the Cardinals win.
It doesn’t really matter that much. Right now, Ollie really seems to want Burly’s bat in the lineup. I believe Burly has “jacked” some HRs off lefties.
Cards667, right now, I’d be surprised if Burleson isn’t in the lineup vs a LHP. I guess we’ll find out tomorrow evening.
