    FWIW….
    Patrick McAvoy in SI

A trade would involve multiple top prospects like Jordan Walker and Tink Hence, but it would be worth it. Skubal immediately would take the Cardinals’ rotation to another level. A deal may be unlikely, but should be considered if Skubal somehow is available.

Surely unlikely I would do it in a second. Even if one or two more lower prospects were involved.

This isn’t worth much of anything other than identifying that a new young pitcher may be worth it. A #1/#2 starter is still on my want list. Does anyone want to go into the post-season with our present rotation. We could do some damage with another solid starter.

I don’t really see the Tigers trading Skubal. They are a team that is likely hoping to contend next year and I don’t see them trading their ace with 3 years left after this year before becoming a FR.

SI just makes up imaginary scenarios out of thin air. Nothing but click bait.

Why shouldn’t they? MLB makes up imaginary baserunners out of thin air in extra innings. Any and all illusions of reality are relative to the imagination. It’s a genuine through the looking glass sort of world…If you don’t believe me, you can go ask Alice.

Man, I’d have said bad words if that would have landed in the Red’s BP…Nice play by Donovan in LF.

With the Cards holding a WC spot at the moment, I see Mo trying to improve the team at the deadline. I’m not sure if we will trade for any bats though as we have Noot coming back soon with Edman maybe a month away. If anything, I could see us trading for a backup RH hitter. I wonder if a Pham reunion could be in place.

Out of the pitchers available, I would be calling Toronto about Kikuchi. We could use a LHP and he has pitched well the last 2 seasons. He likely. I would love to get Miller or Woo from Seattle, but the asking price would be quite high and they likely would want MLB bats. I doubt Seattle is willing to trade either anyway as you can never have enough good SP even if you currently have more than you need for the playoffs.

Now that we’ve seen quite a lot of ABs. Who do you predict will end the season with the highest batting average among the Cardinals regulars?

Shady, I’m going to go with a minor league player that gets called up in September and goes 2 for 6 (.333 batting average).

    Maybe that’s cheating.

The season is not to the halfway mark yet, but the BA front runners are Winn, Burleson and Donovan. Among guys who have been on extended IL stays, add Contreras. Then there is a gap down to everyone else. Donovan and Contreras have experience and track record and will probably be steady performers through the dog days. Winn seems like he has/is coming back to earth after a hot early season. He may fade to more modest results. Burleson was a slower start and has been hot. Whether he has staying power as an everyday player at the ML level is unknown. All said, it seems most likely to come to Burleson, Donovan and Contreras for the team BA championship. Neither of the bronze busts seem likely to step up, and perhaps neither is capable of stepping up any more.

    Walker.

At the moment, Walker is not a STL lineup regular, but then, neither is Contreras, or Noot or Edman, so I guess it is fair to include him in the discussion, even though the question was who among the regulars.

Walker hit .276 in MLB last year, which is very respectable these days. It seems unlikely he just totally forgot how to hit over the winter. More likely, opponents spent the winter perfecting pitching and defensive strategies, which Walker and his handlers were unable to quickly adjust to early this season. So we can assume he and his handlers have and are working on stuff in AAA meant to improve his chances. We have no idea how that will work out, not will we until he gets back to MLB and the cycle of adjustment and response plays out again. If he comes back and hits .276 again for a month or two, I don’t think that tells us the problem is fixed.

Walker may not even make it back to Stl this year except maybe for a cup of coffee in September.

0.149 service days currently. Walker may play the entire 2nd half, who knows. If he plays less than 23 days active the remainder of 2024, they gain a season of control. TBD.

If there’s a guy that can hit, we should find a place for him. There’s 3 teams in MLB that have scored fewer runs. Our run production from literally all of our players goes from streaky to horrible. Don’t fool yourselves.

I’m not fooling myself but I’m also not convinced that Walker will be the answer on offense that we are looking for. It is obvious that the league made adjustments on him during the offseason and he hasn’t proven that he can handle those adjustments.

I’m not counting on Walker. My point is we aren’t flush with hitting like some people seem to think we are.

Right now, Arenado and Gorman “ain’t cuttin’ it”. Mo may need to make some decisions on them with the trade deadline looming. Mo might be able to get a future high end starter for Gorman. ex. Luzardo. The Cardinals would probably have to eat a lot of Arenado’s salary to get a decent player in return.

Do you really think it would be wise to give up on the 24 year-old Gorman after a bad month?

    And

If you were to trade him, wouldn’t it be wise to wait until his value peaks again? Why would you sell now when he’s in a slump?

And do I need to remind you again that even if a team was kind enough to take Arenado off our hands, that he has a no-trade contract?

Future stars and core players are
Winn, Walker, Burleson, Herrera, Donovan, Nootbaar, and Gorman. Don’t trade any of them.

Some of the clowns elsewhare are still trying to disparage Burleson any way they can. It’s humorous how they are squirming. lol. Burly is going to to be a tremendous fixture in the Cardinals lineup for many years to come. Those deniers didn’t believe me then. But it’s a fact, Jack.

You were absolutely right! For my money Alec Burleson is THE greatest .277 hitting outfielder with an OPS UNDER .800 in the history of the game!

With that said Mr Shady, anyone who spells “elsewhere” as e-l-s-e-w-h-a-r-e should probably avoid calling others clowns. And that’s a fact, Jack.

He’s been doing real good, Shady. And you envisioned that he’d get untracked and be successful. At this juncture, I wouldn’t bet against him. But the league he’s established himself in has a strong tendency to change a players fortunes once a file’s been compiled unless that player’s able to continuously make adjustments to counter that file. At a bit more than 670 PA’s, Burleson’s proven that he belongs in the Big Leagues. Whether or not he’s established himself as a tremendous fixture in any Big League lineup for more than 670 PA’s has yet to be fully established. I’m hoping he’ll continue to swing the bat as we’ve see for the last six or seven weeks, but in my view, he’s still an upstart in this league.

AdM, please don’t infest your anti Burly/Shady hatred here. You’ve been exposed. Suck it up and move on.
