Right now, my fairly realistic draft possibilities are 1)Burns 2) Smith 3)Wetherholt 4)Kurtz. Either Wetherholt or Kurtz, maybe both, should/could be available at #7 for the Cardinals. Burns and Smith are less likely. Or would the Cardinals decide to go with one of the top two rated high school prospects? At least one or both should/could be available.
AdM. wouldn’t you agree that Burleson has picked up the slack for the underachieving Goldschmidt, Arenado and Gorman so far this season? Think of where the Cardinals offense would be this season if Burleson’s bat wouldn’t have produced like it has. By the way, what’s your starting infield projection for next season? Why don’t you like Burly, defensively, at 1B?
AdM, we finally agree on something. lol Also, if you check the stats, Burly has developed into more than just a “singles” hitter. You still seem inclined to try to undermine Burleson. So be it.
PadsFS, “I could see Goldschmidt re-signing too and filling the 1B/DH role that Carpenter is in now”. Wouldn’t Goldy be required to take a HUGE paycut to re-sign with Cardinals in that capacity? I feel Goldy’s return depends on Walker. Can Walker prove he’s ready to take RF? So Burly can move to 1B.
AdM, so was Saggese just fortunate the ball hit his bat so frequently in one game. Was he just lucky? lol I see really good potential in Saggese. Not sure if I’m ready to promote his potential, yet, like I did Burleson’s. By the way, you seem to be warming up to Burly a little. You use to be brutal towards him and me for supporting him. Glad you seem to have decided to take on a more friendly-type attitude. This is just baseball talk, anyway.
As I indicated, Saggese needs to build on his recent success at AAA. But he sure seems to be trending upward. Better than downward. Wouldn’t you agree?
1td, this evening for AAA Memphis. “Thomas Saggese ~ 4-5, HR, 3 Singles, 3 RBI….. WALK OFF 3 Run HR….” courtesy of craviduce on another MB. Maybe that will “brighten your spirits” on the young Saggese. lol
1td, Sagesse keeps racking up the hits. 5 for 6, recently. Hope he is realizing his potential. 22 years old at AAA. He could be a good one.
Ratsbuddy, I understand your concern with both Gorman and Walker. They have a long way to go to establish consistency as MLB hitters. There’s hope. Consider how far Winn and Burleson have come this season.
Winn, Burleson, Gorman and Walker have some serious offensive talent going forward. IF things progress. Cardinals fans, let’s hope for the best for these four, and others. Including organizational starting pitching.
Batting 8th is where Gorman belongs in the lineup, right now. They must feel he has a chance to overcome his woes by keep playing at the MLB level. Burly has been getting some timely RBIs lately. But he needs to crank more home runs. It would really help the offense.
1td, 22 year-old Saggese had three hits tonite. One, a triple off the top of the wall. Maybe he’s starting to “come into it”.
1td, I can’t recall Lynn ever being better for the Cardinals than he was today.The problem with some of these older starters is consistency. As evidenced recently with Gray, Gibson and Mikolas.
blingboy, right now, it’s a sad situation, no doubt. Gotta keep Winn, Donny, Burly and even Siani going until some of these bats come alive. Contreras needs to pick it up a notch, too. Noot could really help. But, he’s kind of iffy coming off the DL.
Obviously, Lynn pitched like an “Ace” today. Much different than Gray’s last start. Bravo Lance Lynn.
The organization has plenty of options at 2B. Especially, when Edman returns. What good is it for Gorman and the team to keep him in the lineup the way he’s struggling? He needs to go to Memphis to try to regroup. Bring Prieto up to see if he can hit MLB pitching like he has in the minors. Prieto kind of reminds me of Burleson as a hitter. Also, Gorman’s trade value is “falling off the cliff”. Just like O’Neill’s did and Carlson’s has. Another reason to send him down to try to “get it together”. Let him there until the All-Star break, at least. Then re-evaluate the 2B situation. Including Edman as a possibility at 2B the way Siani is playing CF.
If Gorman doesn’t start making more consistent contact. Why not send him to Memphis to try to work things out? Bring up the hot-hitting Prieto and give him a try at 2B.

Gray, at this stage, seems more like a semi-Ace. He’s not consistently dominant. Mo needs to explore getting another top of the rotation starter. It might take letting go of Gorman or even Walker.
1td. after this Reds series. Burly needs to make some adjustments as to how he’s being approached. Burleson is a smart hitter. With the talent to go with it. I’m thinking he’ll learn and adjust.

Some of the clowns elsewhare are still trying to disparage Burleson any way they can. It’s humorous how they are squirming. lol. Burly is going to to be a tremendous fixture in the Cardinals lineup for many years to come. Those deniers didn’t believe me then. But it’s a fact, Jack.
