I’m wondering if this might be the way to go against RHP
1) Winn SS
2) Donovan LF
3) Burleson DH
4) Contreras C
5) Goldschmidt 1B
6) Arenado 3B
7) Nootbaar RF

However, Gorman has to cut down on the Ks to play ahead of Pham.blingboy, Burly’s on pace for a plus 25 HRs and plus 90 RBIs season. Pretty good numbers for a 25 years old player. That’s where Gorman should be at 25 and Walker when he’s 25. Burleson has turned out to be a heckuva 2nd round pick. And Donovan in round 7.
I’d go with this lineup tomorrow against the lefty. And then against the Mets’ LHP Mon.

9) Nootbaar CFThe Cardinals just have not been able to get the consistent “pop” needed, this season, from the 4 and 5 spots in the lineup. At least two of these four needed to produce at a high level at 4 and 5. Goldschmidt, Arenado, Gorman or Walker. It just hasn’t happened.
Hasn’t the rookie, McGreevy, been the most effective starting pitcher for the Cardinals recently? The way some others have been pitching, maybe another start for McGreevy is warranted, sooner than later.
bccran, Walker and Gorman “getting it together” is what’s “huge” going forward. As well as some young starting pitching developing at the MLB level. McGreevy’s recent performance was encouraging.
bccran, I’d say Burleson is also a “huge” key to the Cardinals longer term future. Probably at 1B. Burly is only 25.
Today’s starting lineup is about the best lineup Oli can put out there vs RHP. Though it might be better to switch Nootbaar and Donovan at 6 and 8. Although, it is nice to have Donovan, Siani and Winn hitting just ahead of the top RBI man, Burleson, as the lineup turns over. I’m still not sure about what the best lineup vs LHP should be. Pham sure helps.
Brian, OK, I’ll take a break for a while. No biggie !!! By the way, whether you care or not, I’ve not been overly impressed with the vibes, by you. I’ve got on here regarding Burleson. Kinda of disappointing from what I consider an astute Cardinals baseball observer. I guess we have very difference observations on Burleson, now and maybe for the future. Stay tuned on Burleson !
Brian, if you are referring to me, thanks. I’ve been considering completely ignoring some that, mainly, just like to provoke. Actually., I feel they have the ability to be better posters here, too. If they’d just let some past animosity go. If not, I’ll seriously consider your suggestion. Thanks.
1td, Wow, there’s some characters here that, evidently, don’t have the perception to visualize what Alec Burleson has done to help this team this season. Totally befuddling. At least the people that really count in making decisions on Burly have better sense.
1td, well put. The Cardinals would likely be at least 10 games out of the Central Div. race, right now, if Burleson hadn’t produced in the absence of spme expected high level production from others. You made a very sensible post. Very good work.
AdM, why aren’t the Cardinals astute enough to hire you as a consultant? With all that data. Maybe, Brian can get them to check out some your brilliant posts once in a while. lol I’ll give you credit, you are persistent. You need to get a Burleson jersey before the price goes way up. lol
AdM that should read “current” “professional baseball credibility” and add Mark Sweeney to growing list of esteemed Burleson admirers for Burleson as a hitter. Burly night be a little off right now but, “my glass is half full” when it comes to anything regarding Burleson’s rare talent as a hitter. Stay tuned !
AdM you are going to get “the short end of the stick” by continuing to try to ‘save your butt” from past and corrent dimmissiveness towards Burleson. Please go back and listen, again, to what Joe Buck had to say regarding Alec Burleson. Please consider this. Who might just have more professional credibility, you, Joe Buck, Jim Edmonds, Chip Caray, Marmol, etc. They seem to have enormous respect for Burleson’s hitting ability. You get my drift? Maybe not. lol
AdM, Burleson has had some big hits against lefties, at times. I’ll admit, he needs to improve his consistency against LHP. From what I’ve seen in the strides Burly has made. I feel hell make some necessary adjustments vs LHP, overall. You won’t admit it, but you know, in the last couples years, I’ve been much more accurate than than you have been. on predicting Burleson’s potential. Stay tuned !
KBC, granted, Burly hasn’t hit lefties particularly well, lately. He’ll likely, be back in the lineup up tomorrow hitting 2nd vs RHP. Whatcha’ think? Or would you prefer the leading RBI producer on the team benched even against RHP. You don’t truly understand the respect Marmol and many other respected notables have for Burleson as a hitting force for this team. ex. the respect Joe Buck gave for Burleson Mon eve in the broadcast booth was moving. I believe Joe Buck said he feels Burleson is the most dangerous hitter on the team. And said he has had to sit down on the couch and watch when Burly ABs. Cool stuff !
It’s kind of humorous. There are some that wanted Burleson sent back to AAA earlier in the season. Now, they are fervent supporters of Burly taking over at 1B next season. Then you have the perpetual Burleson dissenters that aren’t so sure. One in particular, that only sees him as a platoon at DH next season. Funny, funny stuff. Just keep driving in runs Burly! He’ll be fine now, next season and, hopefully, for many years to come as a Cardinal.
bccran, I believe they’ll keep moving Burly around like they have been doing. RF, LF, 1B and DH. Depending on what Oli wants to do with some other players/players for the particular game. Then, possibly taking over at 1B regularly next season. I’d like to see Burly handle LHP better. He doesn’t seem overmatched. He doesn’t K much against lefties. He just doesn’t seem as comfortatable as he does hitting against RHP. Despite that, I do recall Burleson getting some big hits off lefties.
blingboy, Burleson could drop to a lower spot in the order vs lefties, eventually. Maybe at 6. But he’ll, likely be in the lineup.
AdM, like I said, Burleson is leading the team in RBIs. Do you dismiss that fact? As a Cardinals’ fan, do you not appreciate that? The Cardinals have seen a bunch of lefties. He is getting RBIs off some other than just RHP.
RBK and AdM, maybe I’m old fashion. But I really like the combo of high RBI production and low K rate. Don’t you? Deny if you choose, but the Cardinals would be hurting, big-time, right now, in the division if Burleson wouldn’t have produced like he has.
RBK, you seem to like to dwell on stats. Here are some stats for you. Gorman has stuck out 140 times in 332 ABs. Burleson has only K ed 49 times in 366 ABs. Please analyze the difference and let me know if you feel this might enter into Marmol’s preference to have Burleson in the lineup.
AdM, so why doesn’t Marmol appear to pay attention to the stats stuff you and RBK utter criticizing Burleson? Hint, hint, Burleson’s RBI production may give you a clue.
