Pallante and Graceffo (and maybe Liberatore – although I’m extremely skeptical there) making solid cases to be starters next season.
Not sure about today’s pitcher. I mean, he’s made a total of one Big League appearance. That appearance was in a mop up role.
I agree. Small sample. But the quality of his different pitches was very good and well executed. Plus, he’s been throwing them well at Memphis too. He inspires hope.
If a pitcher makes it to this level he is capable of turning in a good outing. That alone means nothing. A guy looks good for four innings and now talking about next year’s rotation is amusing. But I would not be surprised if Mo is thinking exactly the same thing. Oh boy! Pallante and Graceffo and Liberatore, plus Gray. 80 % of my rotation is set for next year, and I will have quite the laundry list for 5th and 6th. That thinking is exactly what got us where we were last season.
Unfortunately the Cubs did us a favor today. They beat the Brewers 5-3 at Miller Park in Milwaukee. Happ a tie breaking 2-run dong in the 8th.
We remain 6.5 games out. Cubs are currently 10.5 games out.
It’s always nice to see a young guy make his Big League debut and feature a respectable performance. Obviously everyone’s happy for him, but I’m also guessing that he’d have much rather been working under conditions which could be termed something other than that of mop up in a losing cause. I’m sure he’s happy with his performance, but I’d bet a dollar he’d have liked to have had the baseball in his hand in a one run game and the only thing I take away from his first appearance is that he now has his name in the books. That’s all.
