I’ve thought Burleson looks comfortable at 1B. He’s giving Goldy a break there this evening. Burly may be hitting his way into a future 1B gig with the Cardinals.
How to fix the Cardinals.
1) Goldschmidt, Arenado and Gorman need to “get their shit together”.
2) Nootbaar needs to come back, stay in the lineup, and perform commensurate to Donovan and Burleson.
3) Contreras needs to return to his previous offensive production. If so, he’s the primary DH. Let the brilliant defensive catcher, Pages, do most of the catching.KCB, actually, I concur. Both Winn and Burleson are just “scratching the surface”, talent-wise. I’m not sure what’s going on with Gorman and Walker.
I might, too. If it brought back a young, cost controlled starting pitcher ace. I mean a no-brainer, established ace. Not a potential ace. One way or the other, both Winn’s and Burleson’s development this season has been delightful.
1td, I am just curious as to Burleson’s trade value compared to the current “untouchables”. Winn should probably have the highest Cardinals trade value by the end of the season. If not already. I’ll be surprised if Burly won’t move into the top five in TV in the organization shortly.
KCB, I wonder if Burleson’s trade value will be close to Walker’s and Gorman’s by the end of the season.
KCB, when Nootbaar returns, he and Carlson should be platooned in CF. Pages remains at C with Contreras at DH.

9) Pages CBurleson took a Jordan Hicks fast ball to, what seemed like, the high ribs area on a pick off move to 1B. Burly took his time getting up. But denied any attention from the training staff. That seemed kind of “old school” baseball player to me.
So good to see Goldy making consistent, solid contact. Hope it continues. Now, Arenado needs to heat up.
blingboy, Walker has a long way to go in order to replace Burleson in the lineup. Especially, vs RHP.
I posted, “I believe Burly is leading the regulars in slugging %”. I assume Contreras will have the top slugging % among the regulars when he returns.
1td, when Contreras returns, where would you place Burleson in the lineup? One way or the other, they going to have a fairly deep lineup when Contreras, Noot and Edman return. Maybe they need to be buyers at the deadline for starting pitching.
jj, I believe Burly is leading the regulars in slugging %. So 5 seems to make sense for him. But where does Ollie bat Goldy and Arenado if Noot’s at 2 and Contreras is at 3? If Burly is at 5, one of those two are going to be at 6. I prefer my lineup with Winn, Donovan, Burleson 1,2,3. I’ll take Donovan over Noot at 2.
ATM, with the Goldy situation, the Cards could value Caglianone and Kurtz as a future replacement at 1B. Personally, I feel Burleson would be fine there as Goldy’s future replacement. Then the Cards could lean towards Smith or Wetherholt, if either or both are available.
bicyclemike, I’ll be surprised if Ollie ever bats Goldy or Arenado lower than 5. And he seems dialed in to Burly at 2. So I look for it to be Winn, Burly, Contreras, Goldy, Arenado, Gorman, Donovan. My preference is Winn, Donovan, Burleson, Contreras, Goldy, Arenado, Gorman, Nootbarr, Edman (Carlson until Edman returns). Burly will likely stay in RF until Noot returns, then Burly goes to DH. I’m not sure how the Hererra, Pages backup catcher situation evolves.

Tier 1 top prospects.
