Gant did exactly what he needed to do last night to tame the Tribe….anyone remember what that is? If I may, I would like to harken back to the great inspirational posts from BicycleMike & 2011Seems after the demoralizing Game 2 defeat in Milwaukee this past weekend. Ever since those inspiring words, the club is 3-0….soon to be 4-0 after tonight’s Kluber Klubbing. Anyway, how often in a 4 game series does a team lose the first 2 games and then come back and win the next 2? Not very often. I bet it’s far less than what the laws of probability would dictate. My guess is about 7%.
I only ask Carlos to pitch as well as our rookie(Gant) did last night. If I’m MM, I approach this game with my team this way…..5 minutes before the game’s first pitch I walk up individually to each of my 9 staters and with a stern face repeat the following sentiments, “Club Kluber”……”Club Kluber”.
Not a lot of nail biters in Midwest League play last night. The victors outscored the losers by a combined whopping score of 51-7. Alvaro Seijas and the Chiefs certainly did their part in keeping their fans far from the edge of their seats. In only 4 2/3 innings, Seijas earned himself a miniscule Game Score of 6…..yes, not a typo….6. One can only earn such a poor grade during that amount of work by surrendering 10 runs, 8 of them earned, on 10 hits, while notching 2 whiffs and issuing 1 walk and 2 dingers. 1,584 bored Dozer fans witnessed the 13-0 Kane County drubbing of their Chiefs, with many not sticking around until the end of this rather prolonged 2 hour and 53 minute affair.
Gant isn’t Tommy Glavine just yet. He just needs to stay in his groove and do just one thing….keep pounding that zone! And all will be good.
Great idea, Stlcard25! I haven’t done KMOX in years. And the good thing….at this time of night it comes in crystal clear.
Stlcard25 – Thanks for the interleague head-to-head stats! I’m blacked out here in the great State of Wisconsin too. I was really counting on doing some serious game threading with all of you guys here this evening. Looks like I’ll be counting on you guys to keep me abreast as to what’s going on.
My thoughts precisely, 2011Seems. I like the way you think! I may as well stop posting because 2011Seems always writes what I’m thinking anyways.
Pound the zone! Some a little wide….some a little tight….some a titch high….and some a titch low….but pound the heck out of it! That’s the mentality that Gant has to have going on vs the Tribe this evening. If he tries to finesse these guys, he’s going to get rocked. And none of this “Gant can’t ” jazz….the man can take these guys down. Does anyone know what our interleague record is vs Cleveland? Can’t be too good as I have such few fond memories of our games with them.
This may have been the kick in the arss that the boys needed. MM may very have just ripped off Rat’s rant and read it word for word to the troops….except for erasing the later part of #10. Rat really does have a little Whitey in him….or is it the other way around? I have never discounted the distinct possibility that Rat is the real Whitey.
The Chiefs may be contemplating a change of names to the Pefectos after their 4-2 victory today catipalted their second half record to an eyebrow-raising 4-0. There is one man who warrants some serious ink from this series..and he is not a player. Not since the days of Brock “Eagle Eye” Ballou has the Midwest League been blessed with such quality umpiring as what we saw on full display in this series from one, Trevor Dannegger. “TD”….or “Trevor Dannegger” to the layman, is a dead pull lock down 5-tool arbiter. He truly has “Major League Umpire” emblazoned across his ebony chest protector. I’ll have more on this masked marvel in the very near future, as I am still reviewing the Chiefs tape from today’s game after just getting back from a wondrous trip to Miller Park. But one thing that I would like us all to do is to chew on a nickname that does this gem justice. Remember the name….. Trevor Dannegger…..the man is no ham & egger!
You old timers remember “Sweet” Lou Whitaker? Well for you newer posters, may I introduce to you “Sweet” Magnolia Cardinal. Welcome aboard Mags!! Mags may very well own the sweetest computer stroke East of the Mississippi.
Let’s hope we find out, Carioca. I didn’t think we would see Holland in a position again to take back what he was paid $$$$$$$$$$$$$$ to do, but this is his chance. If Holland does take the bull by the horns, then it will be Hicks center stage in 2019 for sure.
4 1/2 back or 6 1/2? Weaver has to have that pitch count south of 75 after 5 frames today…..for once.
You’re above getting sucked into this sort of negativity, Rat. I would like to urge cooler heads to prevail here during this bad streak our boys are experiencing. I really believe that starting today, the team is going to get sizzzzling hot! I bet even Dexter Fowler gets a base rap sometime here over the next 7 games….maybe even Wong too.
NEVER have I seen such inspirational posts……especially back-to-back!! Thank you very much for getting me out of my Cardinal doldrums and back riding high in the saddle yet once again, BicycleMike!! Early this morning I gave my tickets away for the next two games to a neighbor down the block and now, thanks to BicycleMike’s inspiring words, I want the rascals back! Unfortunately the ticket recipient is quite a bit larger than me, so I think I’ll have to do something that I haven’t had to do since County Stadium days….pony up some cash at the window. I doubt that I’ll get anything close to my usual stomping grounds at 8 rows behind the visitors dugout, but at least as Tony said to Vince Papale in the hit movie ‘Invincible, “at least I can say that I was there”.
And talk about ” hits”, how about our new poster, 2011Seems! He keeps hitting it out of the park farther and farther with each passing post! I know 2011Seems hasn’t been with us long, but I would like to urge Brian to toss his hat into the ring to become this site’s newest moderator. Anyone second the motion?
Refreshing to see our upstart Chiefs squad open the second half by sweeping Burlington in a twin bill by a combined score of 10-4. Oviedo and Summerville picked up the wins, with Davis, Denton and Fiedler lofting long ones. The Bees had no clue whatsoever on how to retire Chiefs catcher Julio Rodriguez in Game 1, as Julio stung them with a 4-4 effort.
You see a lot, 2011Seems,..
…….you see a lot.I am torn on which path to traverse. One part of me says “Pugs…enough is enough. How much heartache can you endure? Ditch this team for the year and start anew next March, when hopefully the likes of Dexter Fowler and Wong are dust in the wind and are plying their trade elsewhere”. And the other part of me wants to take the high road. To continue rooting on our boys through thick and thin. To maybe even prove my unwavering love for this teetering ship of 25 by not only going to all Cardinal games here in Milwaukee, but also traveling to ports of call such as Chicago and Detroit to root my team on. What to do????
Billy Martin has to be as frenzied as a hornet up in that big diamond in the sky, with the way players of today are treated. But times do change.
Yadi is back, so we should fare very well in this series. Anyone know what our record at Miller Park is when Yadi starts? How does 56-18 grab you? Only joshing, but it has to be pretty darn good. This may be a question for our good friend Kip over at the prestigious Elias Sports Bureau. I like us winning this one 6-3 with both Gyorko and Bader reaching the outfield rafters.
Just noticed something. Not a single one of us has welcomed our newest poster to Team Cardinal Nation. Allow me to be the first to roll out the red carpet welcome mat to our new friend. Welcome 2011SeemsForever!! May this be the first of several hundred threads that you start with us in what we expect will be a very storied posting career.
I know one fellow who will sleep like a baby tonight……Gregory Scott Holland. Let’s hope Greg will put that quality rest to good use and utilize this nice outing as a springboard for good things to come. Sometimes that’s all it takes….that one good outing. Plenty of game balls to toss around after this nice win….. Carp…Martinez….Pham….Holland & Hicks….stlcard25 for some super nice calls on what’s going on out on the field….the esteemed TexasCard, Booyah, Jags and BW for throwing their quality 2 cents in……and of course Euro….for being Euro. 7-6 Birds your happy final from the city of brotherly love.
.
Holland shouldn’t disappoint in this spot.
Thanks a million….but just for the record, it’s 99.26. Please add “honesty” to my list of accolades too, Euro. No way we lose this one!
Told you to make it back by the 7th, Euro.
We have guys falling down and not catching grounders all over this field! Wonder if they have some guy hidden away up in the rafters momentarily blinding our fielders with one of those laser guns! Never know….let us not forget which city we are in.
Cards don’t do squat in the 6th. Come on…let’s get these guys!!
