Very good win, Gant comes through even though analytics said he was likely to lose. Norris also proving to be very solid. S/o followed by DP, looked like they planned it that way. Keep it going for tomorrow.

stlcard25ParticipantGood win for the Birds. It’s always good to get the first game of the series. Good pitching, defense and enough offense without a homer to beat a quality team. Gant’s peripherals have been good so far; that crazy LOB% had to get better though.
June 26, 2018 at 8:51 am #58172Good clean win. This is really a Jeckl and Hyde team.
June 26, 2018 at 9:46 am #58175Good win against a solid AL opponent. Gant walked too many, and I am not sure Gomber is ready for prime time, but other than that things went well.
Offensively on the bad side, Bader’s last AB was bad. He took two fat pitches, then struck out in a pitch down and in. Still seems like our hitters take too many pitches that they could square up.
On a positive note, loved that hit to left field by Fowler, just meeting the ball where it was pitched. Wong did the same thing on his double. Hopefully those are signs that better things are in store for them.
June 26, 2018 at 9:49 am #58176I’ve been on the Gant bandwagon all year. The ball just explodes out of his hand and the hitters seem to have a difficult time picking it up. Maybe it is his delivery. He belongs in St. Louis not Memphis. Let’s get him off of the shuttle.

ParticipantAnything that Gant can give the Cards is a big help. Not only pitching like last night but his presence in St Louis means the Cards can keep Hudson in MEM where the organization wants to keep him for ’18. Its like keeping a juicy apple fresh and shiny for ’19.
June 26, 2018 at 11:39 am #58188IMO, Gant can keep himself off the Memphis shuttle if he pitches well enough. As noted, Hudson can also probably stay in Memphis – unless another starter goes down.
June 26, 2018 at 4:42 pm #58210Heck of a job by Gant last night was very very impressive start for him!
June 26, 2018 at 5:11 pm #58213Gant did exactly what he needed to do last night to tame the Tribe….anyone remember what that is? If I may, I would like to harken back to the great inspirational posts from BicycleMike & 2011Seems after the demoralizing Game 2 defeat in Milwaukee this past weekend. Ever since those inspiring words, the club is 3-0….soon to be 4-0 after tonight’s Kluber Klubbing. Anyway, how often in a 4 game series does a team lose the first 2 games and then come back and win the next 2? Not very often. I bet it’s far less than what the laws of probability would dictate. My guess is about 7%.
