Weaver should have been through 6, but Garcia with a bad throw lets the inning continue. Aguilar up with a chance to cut into the lead. Mayers is coming in.

    I’ll take it!

And Weaver is in line for the “W”!

Mayers blows a 99 mph heater by him to preserve the lead. Nice work there.

I wish Weaver was given more of a Chance to finish the inning.. either way he pitched a decent game. And the 2nd-5th innings should give him confidence going into his next start. Nice K by Mayers.

Holland in for some work. See if he can keep lowering that ERA.

Luke had logged 104 pitches. And he should have left with a positive vibe. Time for him to call it a game.

Let him earn the benefit of doubt with a stronger body of play.

A weak single to right is all he allows, and he gets a K with no walks. Pretty good for Holland. He threw a couple nasty sliders.

If Martinez had hustled out of the box, he probably beats that play out. Ah well…minor quibble on a good day of baseball so far.

Cecil in…and he gets a grounder, a pop-up and a K to lower his own ERA a touch. Can you sense the bullpen getting a little bit more confidence? It’d be great to have Holland and Cecil pitch like they have the last few outings.

A nice win to get a series split. Players of the game for me were Weaver for not getting rattled after a shaky first, and Fowler for his 2 hits and aggressive hustle on the base paths. An all around good game…timely hitting,we scored 5 runs without benefit of a homer, and when we did hit a hr,there were runners on base. Also with a 6 run lead our bullpen was sharp with Mayers,Holland, Cecil and Brebbia.
The last 2 games we showed tremendous heart to get the series split esp after how we lost the first 2 games. Now back home to welcome in Cleveland for 3. For me,the big game will be Tuesday when C-mart takes the mound and how he’ll bounce back. Perhaps that whooping he took Thursday will wake him up and he’ll start pitching like hes capable and not worry about his hair. He’ll be matched up against Kluber so he’ll need to be on his game.

    Big win. Go Cardinals!

Brebbia comes in and Ks two in a row…gets Sogard to fly out and there’s your split. That was a nice, enjoyable game. Now let’s cool off the Indians!

The Cards win 8-2 to split the series 2-2. St. Louis record is now 40-36.

A split is a very good result in MKE at this stage of the season. After the first two games, most probably felt like a sweep was more likely than a split. Nice to see the offense return.

    This friggin team man! lol

They’re good enough to keep their heads above water barely. Split was x-mas come early.

I wish Weaver was given more of a Chance to finish the inning.. either way he pitched a decent game.

One gripe of mine on how pitchers are used today, is that starters do not get many opportunities to stretch themselves out a little and work out of mid-game jams. They are usually replaced when they get in trouble in the 4th, 5th, 6th innings, and definitely later. They rarely gain experience on working through trouble spots where they have to work in a stressful situation while a bit fatigued. That is where you really develop and mature as a pitcher. Pitching is much more than just raring back and firing the ball, but in today’s game the art of pitching is mostly lost, and it is all about power.

Offense is the same way. Creating runs, or what you might call the art of producing runs is largely gone, it is all about power.

But back to pitching, Weaver did get the opportunity to settle in after the rough first inning, so he gained some good experience and confidence there.

Nice to see Dex get a couple of doubles. Maybe he can get going and take some of the pressure off the offense. Great to come back and get the split, especially after the fiasco of Friday night, and the disappointment of Saturday.

Analytics say the starting pitcher is going to have a harder time when he goes through the lineup for the third time. Part of the reason for the quick hooks. I don’t care for it, but it is what it is.
