Wacha keeps this up and he’ll find himself pitching in Tampa.

Sweet move and congratulations,MrPerkins! Two hours in the PBP booth with an official from the IRS and you guys most likely lose your main man in the booth to a 15-20 year stint in a Fed Pen. Just limbering up for today’s game by doing my customary vocal cord excercises straight out of the late great Bugsy Siegel’s playbook….. repeating “twenty dwarves took turns doing handstands on the carpet” 100 times in succession.

Would love to see Hicks start totally dominating batters by registering more whiffs. He could be bringing the heat at 120mph, but his name really shouldn’t be bandied about with the likes of Chapman until he starts not allowing hitters to put the ball in play so often.

With a complimentary post like Euro’s, how could I not bring my A game to the booth with me tomorrow??? Our skipper sure could take a page out of Euro’s book when it comes to motivating others to do their very best. I’m not only promising Cardinal victory tomorrow, but also a game thread for the books. Game on!

Wal-Mart, Home Depot and Mannix is never a valid excuse to wave off PBP…… but that 9-Ball from the Sands circa 1990ish sure sounds intriguing, Rat.

It would be an absolute honor and delight to have MrPerkins calling the action at my side….. but not if you bring that IRS hottie that you were/are dating up in the booth with you, MrP. I prefer to stay as far away as possible from those “fine” folks.

Other than rainouts, how often do our Birds get a Friday night off during the regulate season. Answer: About as often as the cubs win themselves a pennant. A robust shout-out to all of you who sent emails inquiring about our next PBP game thread. I’ll kill 8 birds with one lone stone by extending my gratitude here vs writing 8 individual notes. Well, happy days are here again as I’ll be mounting those long stairs up to the Cardinal Nation booth for tomorrow afternoon’s second contest vs those snarly Snakes out of Phoenix. I’m still in search of a partner to join me in the booth. Those interested candidates can blow a sigh of relief knowing that our qualifications for PBP sidekick have been made considerably easier since our poster base has taken a temporary hit. Our PBP wannabes used to have to submit a 3000 word essay on why they love the St. Louis Cardinals. They also had to score at least a 98% on their 100 question closed book test on Cardinal history. Plus they had to submit at least 50 ticket stubs from the previous season, thus proving they attend at least 50 Cards games a year. And finally they each had to mail in a $250 cash only non-refundable deposit to be considered as a PBP hopeful. But this year is different. Besides having the desire to be in the Cardinal Nation booth, one just needs to simply blow into a clear empty glass….and if that glass fogs up, hence proving life, you’re in! We truly believe 2017-18 is merely a flash in the pan glitz and the Cardinal Nation poster pool will soon swell to it’s normal range of 400-600 die hard Redbird fans. So if you’ve ever fantasized about calling all of the action, but didn’t think you quite had the stuff to succeed, now’s the time to give it a go.

You’re too kind, Sooner! Filing into Miller as we speak. Looking forward to hopefully putting the finishing touches on a sweep tomorrow night, so I can once again grab the PBP mic. I fondly recall guys like Sooner, EuroWolf and others being a blast on our old game threads. It’ll take time to build up our G-thread audience once again, but we’ll get there.

Yeah he had a decent season last year ……. but not good enough to start dropping the “F” bomb twice in one fell swoop. Just who does he think he is!! Pham must have the misconception that he’s putting up Albert Belle or Dick Allen type numbers.

Thanks Forschster! When our Cards are in Milwaukee, I’m usually in attendance, so my PBP will be a little spotty at best during those glorious occasions. With the way our boys rudely treat the home team here in the great State of Wisconsin, I honestly view Miller Park as Busch North. May I suggest everyone to please do their best to cope until yours truly is once again riding high in the PBP saddle. Go Birds!

This one not quite in the books yet(5-1 Birds), but was sure nice to see Ozuna and DeJong get off the snide…. Paul to the tune of two solo taters. And Weaver somehow weaved his way thru 5 innings with far from his best stuff and control. Yet he still only yields one run….. What a great sign of the great things to come from this Jim-Dandy!

TOP of 4 (continued) . Is it my imagination or does Yadi really love hitting in The Big Apple!!

DeJong – Walks on 4 consecutive wayward ones.

Gyorko – Bounds it down to Frazier at 3rd who will wing it over to Cabrera manning 2nd for one and then over to Flores at 1st for your basic 5-4-3 twin killing.

Weaver – Grounds out 1-3…..Matz to Flores to retire the side.

Top of 4. Matz with 73 pitches thru 3.

Yadi – Ramrods one deep the center!…..Lagares drifts back…looks up and can only tip his cap to that baby as it’s gone!!! 3-1 Birds!!

TOP of 3. Rosario ties it at 1 with a 2 out base knock and then promptly gets picked off 1st to end the frame. Both hurlers throwing more pitches than the Wolf of Wall Street so far after just 2 frames with Weaver north of 40 and Matz flirting with that same figure…..see here is why I need a sidekick up here in the booth, for if I did have a partner, I would most certainly have those exact pitch counts for you.

Fowler – Whiffs hacking, K victim #4 for Matz and now Dexter is off to a rather miserable 0-11 start here in 2018….but lucky for Fowler he still has 159 games to redeem himself.

    Pham – Base hit.

Carpenter – On a 1-0 pitch, Pham easily swipes 2nd as the ball heads into center field, but Pham cannot advance. Grounds it out to Cabrera at 2nd who looks at Pham who for some reason did not high tail it on over to 3rd….and he throws Matt out at 1st. Ah the little things that cost a team games and championships.

Ozuna – Rifles a shot to left that Cespedes is going to have to play off the wall on a hop…..Pham scores with Ozuna checking in at 2nd with an rbi double! 2-1 Birds!

Martinez – Rockets a shot back to Matz that the Met hurler knocks down picks up and throws Martinez out at 1st to retire the side.

TOP of 2. Weaver tosses a lot(26) of pitches in the 1st, but does not allow any Met runner to play footsie with home plate. Weaver on a 9 inning projected pitch count of…… let’s see…4 carry the 5…..225.

Yadi – Skies one to deep center….Lagares drifts back and over towards right and hauls it in on the track. That ball carried very well…… should bode well for a homer or three for you dong lovers here this afternoon.

DeJong – Blasts it deep to left….back and long gone off the 2nd deck facing…..1-0 Cards!!

    Gyorko –

    Weaver –

TOP of 1. Matz dealing for NY.

Fowler – Caught looking on an inside heater for strike 3.

Pham – Walks on a 3-2 high one.

Carpenter- Free pass….sweet! Maybe we can become the lucky recipients of a bunch of free passes to get this Bird offense in gear.

Ozuna – Oz Jr. still looking for his first ML hit while wearing a red uniform. Ump said he went around on a VERY debatable call! Two down…ouch that hurts! If these K’s continue, our 2018 Cardinal squad may get the nickname The Big Whiff Machine……. a far cry from that Big Red Machine out of Cincy from the 70’s.

Martinez – Blisters a shot to center that Lagares only has to move a stride to corral…..end of inning.

TOP of 5. In the bottom of the 4th the only blemish besides the D’Amaud dongaroo was a soft DeGrom single to center……D’Amaud & DeGrom…..the only 2 guys in baseball who are too lazy to capitalize their last names.

    Wong –

Wacha – Hits in the air to short right-center where Bruce will come flying in and over near short center to snatch it.

Fowler – It looked as if the Cardinal bats were coming to life, but this inning couldn’t have come much easily for DeGrom…..down in order they go without nary a tussle.

TOP of 4. Wacha sends the Metropolitans scurrying on back to thrir dugout 1-2-3 for the first time today, keeping the deficit at 2-0.

Pham- Is issued the first DeGrom free pass on the day…..time to get this guy!

Carpenter – Lays a dandy bunt down the 3rd baseline where Frazier nabs it and fires to 1st……out! on a very close play. Pham checks into 2nd. Will the Cards challenge??

Ozuna – Hits in the air with authority to right where Bruce drifts back and he’ll haul it in about a step or two before the track for the out…..Pham will easily stroll on over to 3rd.

Martinez – Drills a base hit to left!! Bruce will scoop it up over near the land holding Martinez at 1st, but in comes Phammer with the first of what we hope will be many Redbird tallies of the day.

Yadi – Spanks a liner into left for a hit! The ball is hit too hard for Martinez to take any liberties past 2nd but the Birds are starting to solve the DeGrom equation….lets see E = MCsquared….”E” being DeGrom getting “EASY” to hit…..MC being Martinez & Carpenter….oops let’s gret back to the action shall we?

DeJong – Fouls out to Gonzo to extinguish the Cardinal threat.

Top of 3. The Mets manage just a lone baserunner and no tallies in their half of the 2nd.

Wong – Foul tips strike 3 smack dab into D’Amaud’s catching mitt for DeGrom’s 4th whiff of the game.

Wacha – Goes down flailing on a 3-2 DeGrom heater for out #2.

Fowler – Doinks a rather odd one-hopper out to Frazier at 3rd who with a puzzled look on his face barehands it and flings it on over to Gonzalez at 1st to retire the side. But the pitch count for DeGrom is a rising as that’s 58 hurls now thru 3 frames.

TOP of 2. Mets put a 2-spot on the board in the bottom of the 1st, compliments of a Todd Frazier 2-run double.

Ozuna – Hits a high chopper down to Frazier at 3rd and he’ll wing her across the diamond to AGon’s waiting mitt for the out.

Martinez – 3-4 in the opener and has now reached base in 28 straight games…. dating back to last year of course. Taps a slow chopper to 3rd where Frazier barehands it and fires….wide of 1st and the Birds have their first baserunner and hit of the day.

Yadi- Hits a high popper in back of 1st….AGon goes back as Cabrera races over from 2nd and it’s the met 2nd baseman who hauls it in while shading the sun just inside fair territory for the second out here in the Cardinal 2nd.

DeJong – Strikes out on the minimum number of tosses it takes to do so and Martinez is left stranded on the paths.

Fowler – Wore the 0-4 collar in the opener on Thursday. Whiffs swinging on DeGrom’s 9th offering…..gotta like that!

Pham- Pham succumbs to the slider as Degrom registers K #2 here in the early going. DeGrom’s offspeed stuff is really elevated here in the early going.

Carpenter – Rolls it on the ground out to Gonzalez at 1st where he’ll take a step towards the bag, but then opt to feed his streaking hurler who’ll tap the bag to end the frame.

Missed you and your cakes, UCONN! Those scrumptdilyitious cakes of yours makes life justifiable. Those newbies around here have no idea what they are going to be in for on PBP game threads. If I may I’d like to share with you just two of the many many notes that still occupy my old Cardinal Nation mailbox regarding the subject; DizzyDean from sunny California wrote: “Love your PBP Pugs! I thought I knew everything about this great game until I starting reading your game threads. You’ve truly opened my eyes. I see you are slated to call this Saturday night’s game in Philly…. the same night as my nice niece’s long awaited wedding. I’m going to pull out all of the stops to see if she’ll consider postponing it until the following Saturday. Love you Pugs!” And I’d be terribly remiss not to include this one compliments of RatsBuddy from cloudy Indiana (especially up near Gary, IN): ” I’m swearing off Mannix, Baretta, Perry and Big Hoss from Bonanza until the season and your wonderful game threads conclude. Harry & Jack were my favorites for decades…..they have now been supplanted. Keep em coming Pugs”! So it should go without saying that Brian has always generously compensated me for my stellar efforts. My last yearly agreement was somewhere in the high 2 figures. I think a pay increase is in order.

Thanks for the hearty ( or is it “hardy”?) welcome back, Jags! Brian & Forschster’s wish is my command. If its one thing that brings posters into the house, it’s a rousing Game thread. It will take a month or two to build up, but I guarantee you this…. those 15 posters that Booyah referred to, will swell to at least ten times that amount with PBP in full throttle. I’m prepared to go this alone if necessary, but what I really need is a sidekick to join me up in the booth. As usual, yours truly will call the action when our Cardinals are handling the lumber. So we just need another Cardinal Nationer to call the opposing team’s futile attempts at hitting Redbird pitching so good ole’ Pugs can wolf down a cold one or two every half inning. And to GScott from the great State of Arkansas…… you better get ready to pony up a stealth supply of Budweiser with Wild Turkey chasers, because those cubbies are going down this year….. no playoffs in their immediate future whatsoever!
