Carpenter now making a very nice play at 3rd….doesn’t it always happen….. Say something obtuse about a guy and he comes right back to prove you wrong.
I’m with Mudville…. after seeing the tape again I don’t think Yadi bumped the ump….matter of fact it almost looked like that ump whacked Yadi’s mask off.
April 8, 2018 at 3:00 pm in reply to: 2018 Game #9 – vs. D-backs – Sun 4/8 – Lovullo-Molina altercation #47952It’s not just you, CardinalInFrance. His entire game looks off to me. As much as I like him, I wouldn’t be adverse to him riding the pines for a few games to contemplate things.
April 8, 2018 at 2:48 pm in reply to: 2018 Game #9 – vs. D-backs – Sun 4/8 – Lovullo-Molina altercation #47947Hmmmm……on average I get called that name 3-4 times a day and it doesn’t set me afire like it did Yadi.
April 8, 2018 at 2:42 pm in reply to: 2018 Game #9 – vs. D-backs – Sun 4/8 – Lovullo-Molina altercation #47945Wow! Wong registers his second hit of 2018…..and Yadi comes waltzing in with the game’s first tally!
April 8, 2018 at 2:39 pm in reply to: 2018 Game #9 – vs. D-backs – Sun 4/8 – Lovullo-Molina altercation #47942I’m not 100% sure that a suspension is in Yadi’s future, Brian. I say that only because he didn’t even get tossed in the game. The ump he bumped must have thought the contact was accidental. Will be interesting to find out.
April 8, 2018 at 2:34 pm in reply to: 2018 Game #9 – vs. D-backs – Sun 4/8 – Lovullo-Molina altercation #47940Thru 5 frames Weaver has been very stingy……0 runs, 2 hits, 1 walk, 7 K’s…..on 73 pitches.
April 8, 2018 at 2:19 pm in reply to: 2018 Game #9 – vs. D-backs – Sun 4/8 – Lovullo-Molina altercation #47934Weaver does his best Houdini impersonation by whiffing Goldschmidt with a runner on 3rd with only 1 out and then inducing the inning ending flyout to right. You had to love that 3-2 hook Weaver threw Goldschmidt…
though the Snack 1st baseman was able to foul it off. Weaver seems wise and confident beyond his years on this planet.April 8, 2018 at 2:06 pm in reply to: 2018 Game #9 – vs. D-backs – Sun 4/8 – Lovullo-Molina altercation #47930I predict we will see no luv for Luvullo in St. Louis for awhile. It really was not all that stupid a move by the AZ skipper…..he knew he was gone so why not take the Cardinals’ real skipper along with him to the showers.
April 8, 2018 at 2:02 pm in reply to: 2018 Game #9 – vs. D-backs – Sun 4/8 – Lovullo-Molina altercation #47928A couple tidbits of note for those of you who went out on the town last night instead of being good doobies and staying home watching the games. In the 8th inning of Philadelphia’s 20-1 squeaker vs Miami, the Marlin catcher set the hot Phillie offense down 1-2-3…..the highlight being the whiffment of torrid hitting Hoskins on a 62mph heater. And Houston won in 10 vs the Pads on a walk-off 6 foot infield popup that San Diego failed to catch……now Weaver raps a base hit, the first hit of the game for both teams.
April 8, 2018 at 1:54 pm in reply to: 2018 Game #9 – vs. D-backs – Sun 4/8 – Lovullo-Molina altercation #47924Weaver flawless thru 3…….4 K’s thus far to boot.
April 8, 2018 at 1:46 pm in reply to: 2018 Game #9 – vs. D-backs – Sun 4/8 – Lovullo-Molina altercation #47923Yadi may end up being a little lighter in the pocketbook when the MLB front office takes a gander at the tapes of our little squabble here this afternoon…..even though I’m sure Yadi was completely justified in his anger. And it was the DBack skipper who drew Yadi’s angst, not their catcher, Avila.
April 8, 2018 at 1:40 pm in reply to: 2018 Game #9 – vs. D-backs – Sun 4/8 – Lovullo-Molina altercation #47920Nothing like a little DonnyBrook to get the adrenaline flowing! Unfortunately it looks like it’s not going to amount to much though. Yadi was very very upset with Avila though….very upset.
April 8, 2018 at 10:27 am in reply to: 2018 Game #9 – vs. D-backs – Sun 4/8 – Lovullo-Molina altercation #47894Rumor has it that you are binging on Perry Mason reruns this weekend and hence not watching our Birds in action, Rat. I don’t know why, but every time I turn on The Weather Channel, I get this vision of Rat kicked back in his easy chair smoking one of his world renowned foot long Cubans. God willing I’ll be back in the PBP saddle once again this afternoon calling all of the action. Rat, if that doesn’t steer you away from Perry for a few hours, then a raging 5-alarm fire wouldn’t even do the trick. I love Weaver and our Cardinals to prevail in this one by the score of 7-3.
April 8, 2018 at 10:10 am in reply to: Former Cardinals in the News – 2017 to Aug. 2024 (closed) #47887Piscotty has really never been the same since that game last April when the cubbies conked him with fastballs 3 times in the same game. The most detrimental one being the Junior Baez throw home from right that nailed him on the noggin. I believe that nasty outfield collision with Bourjos a few years ago is what first started messing with his head….mentally. The man has way TOO much talent to be playing as poorly as he has these days.
Thru 7 complete at Dozer and the Chiefs find themselves on the short end of a 9-1 ballgame. Nick Plummer’s ringing double accounted for the lone Peoria tally. Johan Oviedo started for Peoria and had a rough go if it….to say the least. Johan labored thru 1/3 of an inning, yielding 5 runs and 5 walks. Johan tossed 32 pitches with only 12 of them finding the strike zone. I look forward to Johan’s next start as he’s almost a guaranteed lock to show vast improvement.
Posting from my phone as yet another computer malfunction. Not to worry gang as I’ll get this rascal fixed…. anybody want to pick up the rousing PBP in my absentia????
BOTTOM of 6
Yadi – Tatoos a Greinke heater into left for a leadoff base knock! And that hit will signal the end to Mr. Greinke’s day….sweet! As Greinke exits, Cook will enter….back in a moment.
Matt cook is a 27 year old righthander who has the reputation of being able to throw strikes. Also, Ahmed replaces Marte at short who will replace Owings at 2nd who’ll replace Dyson in right….easy peezy as that.
DeJong – Time for Paul to get off the DBack schneid as he’s hitless in the series thus far…..matter of fact, has he even put a ball in play yet in these past 2 games? As they say, “you can’t keep a good player down”, and DeJong is not only a “good player”, but on the precipice of soon becoming “an exceptional player”. Lifts your basic garden variety can of corn to right where Owings will easily slap the leather on it for the out.
Wong – Whew! Yadi nearly gets picked off 1st and should have been. Flies out to Pollock in center.
Bader (hitting for Leone) – Called out gazing on a fastball that looked a couple inches wide.

BOTTOM of 5. Boy when that ball left Descalso’s bat with 2 outs in the bottom half of this inning, I thought we were going to be looking at a 2 run game, but it seemed to die on the right field track to Fowler’s joy…..and it looked like a bit of amazement as well.
Carpenter – Strikes out waving at a heater a bit wide & high of the zone and Greinke seems to have found his groove……hopefully it’ll prove to be a bit late for the AZ. righthander.
Ozuna – Flies out to Pollock in center.
Martinez – Rolls it slowly out to 3rd where DD comes in to scoop it up and fire it across the diamond to Goldschmidt to retire the side in order and that’s 8 consecutive Birds that Greinke has now put away.
Cards 5 AZ 2
BOTTOM of 4.
Wacha – Pops it up to short right where Dyson comes racing in as Owings hightails it out from 2nd, but Dyson says he wants it and has it for the out.
Fowler -3rd baseman Descalso gloves it near 2nd due to The Fowler Shift the Diamondbacks initiated and DD will wing her on over to Goldschmidt at 1st for out #2.
Pham – Whiffs.
(before giving the score here I brought out the trusty calculater, checked the game tapes and all sports wires and even phoned the reliable Elias Sports Bureau for the score and it is)

Carpenter –
WOW!!! 19 years in between PBP blunders and now 2 in the same game…….there’s larger odds on winning Powerball than that occurring. Thank you Brian…….I stand corrected….5-2 Birds……you know if you think about it my first blunder of calling the score 4-1 instead of 5-2 wasn’t all that array as it was a 3 run Cardinal lead……I’ll have to get a ruling from the judges, but maybe I’ll be levied just one PBP error instead of two.
BOTTOM of 3 (continued). Check that score. Make it 4-2 Cards and not 4-1……believe it or not, that may be my first PBP miscue since 1999.
Yadi – Reaches out and pokes a little popper into center for a hit!
DeJong – Let’s hope Mr. DeJong can join the Greinke hit parade here. Whiffs hacking once again….2 outs.
Wong – Grounds it out to Owings at 2nd who’ll glove it and flick it on over to Goldschmidt’s waiting mitt at 1st to retire the side.
Cards 4 DBacks 2
BOTTOM of 3.
Fowler – Whacks a 3-2 Greinke offering into right-center for hit!…..Pollack cuts it off, but Dexter will speed into 2nd safely with a leadoff double!
Pham – Spanks a liner into left that falls in just in front of Peralta who nabs it on a hop and Fowler, having to hold up, will have to take up residence at 3rd…… and we have ourselves the making of a decent frame against Greinke here in the 3rd.
Carpenter – Hits it in the air to right where Dyson has it measured……gloves it for the out, but Fowler can simply lollygag it on in with the tying run…..2-2.
Ozuna – Base hit to right!……and Pham will easily make it over to 3rd base and now the Birds have runners at the corners with just one down.
Martinez – Ramrods a drive DEEP to left center!!!…..Peralta & Pollock give chase but can only bid adios to that baby as it’s a goner!!! 4-1 Cards….listen to the crowd!!
TECHNICAL DIFFICULTIES….SORRY GANG! Just hit the “submit” button for inning #2 and my computer went all haywire. I may not be able to recover inning #2, but I’ll do everything possible to rite the ship here quickly. Not to worry, we’ll get all the kinks out of the way early here in the season and then never look back.
Could someone tell Wacha it’s perfectly ok not to get way behind on each and every batter.
BOTTOM of 1. Greinke dealing for AZ. DBacks plate a run in the top half of the 1st compliments of Wacha’s wildness. I feel like I just found a stray $50 on the pavement having only had our Cards yield the one lone run in the 1st……wonder how elated Wacha feels???
Fowler – 2-21 lifetime vs Greinke. Lofts a lazy one in the air to center….Pollock drifts a few strides over into to right-center and he has it for the out.
Pham – Pops out to Owings at 2nd.
Carpenter – Lines a low change-up out into left-center for a base hit.
Ozuna – Lines a base hit to left and Carpenter will have to apply the brakes at 2nd as that ball was hit too hard to advance any further.
Martinez -Grounds it right back where it originated from and thru into center for a hit!…… Carpenter prances in with Oz Jr. motoring around to 3rd and we have ourselves a tie ballgame.
Yadi – Raps it on the ground out to Marte at short and he’ll flip it on over to Owings at 2nd to retire the side.
