It was the next 2 in the order, Bling…..Urias & Saggese with solo bombs. Cards up 2-0 heading to the 3rd.
Cannot wait to see Leonardo Abdiel Bernal’s maiden ML game. I wonder what the odds are on Mr. Bernal equaling or even surpassing the offensive explosion that Joshua Baez put on display in his first ML game in Wrigley recently? Speaking of odds, I bet only in the neighborhood of 30-35 games a year. I’m very selective and careful with these wagers. At the risk of coming across braggadocious, I don’t lose often. Tonight I’m putting up $3300 to win $3000 on the over (8.5) for the Cards-Dodgers game.
And what was for din-din one may ask? Egg salad sandwich, baked beans drenched in vinegar, Ruffles potato chips dipped into sour cream, red soda pop and for dessert it was 3 scrumptious Popeye’s apple cinnamon pies.
Next to re-inking Paul DeJong, I think Mikolas might be the last ex-Cardinal Bloom would bring back, Bling……oh shoot I forgot the Packers game is on tonight.

As much as I’d love to see Gassy, the only thing I want to see him doing tonight is munching on sunflower seeds out in the bullpen. With all of the appearances of late, Gassy would definitely run the risk of being gassed if summoned into this one.
Baez did not look good in that at bat leading off the Cardinal 6th. No problemo…..he’ll go deep in his next at bat in the 8th.

With the count full, Reynolds first went fishing high and fouled it off and then went deep fishing low and struck out….Quinn needed that. The next batter up (Cruz) also goes down on strikes…..Quinn’s 7th K victim on the evening. Matthews looking like he could go another 6 frames. Gonzalez singles to left and they’re coming to get him. I think I would have gone one more batter with him.
Back-to-back 2 out singles by Walker and Fermin in the 5th will inspire a pitching change from the top step of the Pirates dugout. Sisk will enter as Jones exits.
Pirates pick up a run in the 5th. Matthews at 86 pitches…..just 1 more frame out of him should work. 3-1 Birds.
You’re totally nostalgic, KeepComingBack……like the rest of us around here. Looks like Yadi hasn’t missed many desserts lately as well…..I bet he could put away 5 Popeye’s apple cinnamon pies in the blink of an eye…..and Church with the sac fly to center scoring Walker….3-0 Good Guys. Now Baez blisters a line double to left. As we previously mentioned, Baez looks locked & loaded for going on a hitting rampage.
Triola atones for his defensive error…or “Das Boot” as the esteemed TD would say…..with a lead off line single to right, the Pirates first hit. But Matthews comes right back and sets down the next 2 Pirates before surrendering another base hit to right with Triola scampering around to 3rd. Soft line out to JJ to retire the side. ..2-0 Cards heading to the bottom of the 4th.
Matthews looking great……4 K’s and only the 2 hits…..pitch count a bit elevated at …..not sure….I think 65 give or take a pitch.
Pirates looking a bit defensively challenged in the early going in this ballgame. Last inning the catcher and 1st baseman watch a lazy pop foul ball fall in between themselves untouched and this inning the SS boots a grounder hit right at him.
Cards get just the 2 runs in the bottom of the 3rd
Jones issuing a bit of chin music on his first pitch to Baez. Now this will be a good indicator as to what kind of a hitter Baez is going to be. If he puts solid wood on the ball in this at bat after nearly getting whacked, then that’s a good thing……….and he does as he lines out to center…….it’s an out, but an encouraging out.

Bucs go down 1-2-3 in the 3rd and I don’t think this game has seen a hit yet. Matthews 1/3 of the way to tossing his first ML no-hitter…….stay tuned.
Looks like the Quinnster is trying to grow a beard…….but it’s coming in a bit spotty. My frosh year in college I slapped on a fake mustache when going out on the town of Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights, in an attempt to look older and thus dazzle the ladies. No score as the Birds bat in the bottom of the 2nd……oh and The Ferminator is granted new life as the catcher and 1st baseman let a routine popup fall in between themselves.

Congratulations to Owen Brewer Henne on his first professional homer last night. It was a majestic rocket to left…..107mph off the bat. Off to a slow start, but this kid is a born hitter. We’ll be hearing much more from young Owen in ’27.

And Kitty claws his way back to earn the save after allowing 2 men to reach base.
O’Brien is starting to falter. Luckily we have Gassy waiting in the wings. He definitely is the next man up.
Looks like our old pal Kitty will be center stage for Baltimore in the bottom of the 9th to try to close matters out for the Marylanders.
It’s almost like Gassy needs a larger challenge, Albert. I don’t think Ty Cobb could hit Gassy…….other than on the chin with a right hook after Gassy sent him back to the pines with the bat still in his hands for the fouth straight at bat.
Scotty? I’ve always thought no one in this world could detest the cubbies more than myself…….until you came along. God love you for that!
After watching the hit movie “Napoleon Dynamite” years ago, I too, like Jnevel and Booyah, never miss the opportunity to vote for a Pedro…..any Pedro. Speaking of “Napoleon Dynamite”, our bullpen could use a guy with the arm and the personality of an Uncle Rico.
As for Libby and Gorman, if we open the ’27 campaign with their names on the roster, then it’s going to be another rough season. Sometimes it’s time to move on.
