This is all Alex Reyes redux. I should preface this by stating the obvious; these injuries to Reyes and Flaherty are not their faults. But as fans of this team, it’s so darn frustrating to have two such wonderful pitching talents in your midst and yet they cannot stay on the field of play. It’s hard to believe that Reyes is going to be 28 years of age in a couple of weeks. Not old, but certainly starting to get up there in years as a professional athlete. Especially if significant injuries are a way of life for you. So what do you do with them? I’m ready to give up on Reyes. It’s too early to send Flaherty down the road, but he appears to be following in Reyes’ footprints from a reliability standpoint.

I bet if one checked, they would discover that Chandler Redmond had his new sizzling red hot girlfriend in attendance for this historic game. He had to have had. He certainly picked up points with her…….along with just about any worthwhile offensive stat you could think of.

If we had not burned Neil Pallante last night in a 9-2 late inning mop up stint, we would be sitting pretty coming into this game. Hopefully Woodford can stem the tide if called upon…..I like his chances. This is really a game that would be tough to lose, especially with our very own BicycleMike being in attendance. Knowing BicycleMike, he’ll weasel his way down to a Front Row Amyish kind of seating location by the 3rd inning. Give us a little wave, BicycleMike.

Ollie was going to live or die in LA…..great 80’s song by Wang Chung….sorry couldn’t resist. Ollie was going to live or die in Denver with Christopher Lee Stratton, Bling. We came closer to the later than any of us would have liked.

Bottom of 9. Stratton pitching for St Louis.

McMahon cues a soft liner over Arenado’s head and out into left field for a base hit.

Montero smokes a liner into center field for a hit…. let’s not make things interesting here.

Daza grounds it thru the hole and into left for a hit and the ball gets away from O’Neill and that will enable McMahon to score and Montero and Daza to move up to 2nd and 3rd respectively…..E-7. 9-3 your new score.

Blackmon pops it down the line in left….in foul territory and Arenado makes a spectacular over the shoulder running catch wayyy down the line …wow!

Iglesias with a wounded wobbling quail to short center that will score Montero and suddenly it’s 9-4.

Rodgers drills a base hit to center and this is not getting amusing in any shape or form….9-5 with one out and Rockies straddling 1st and 2nd bases.

    Cron strikes out swinging…..

Grichuk grounds out to DeJong at SS….. ballgame!

    Your marvelous final score:

    St. Louis Cardinals 9
    Colorado Rockies 5

Top of 9. Stephenson now pitching for Colorado.

    O’Neill strikes out swinging.

DeJong…..and it sure seems as if Paulie is batting each and every inning doesn’t it?…and getting hits each and every inning…..and on cue Paulie lines a base hit to center and he now has to be flirting with that Mendoza Line isn’t he? He keeps this up and he’ll be flirting with the line that you sign on a brand spanking new contract extension.

Yadi flies out to Daza in left.

Nooty gets his teeth into one to deep left-center field and that’s in for extras….. DeJong will score and Nooty will scamper into 3rd base with another triple…..9-2 Birds

Carlson lines out to Daza in left.

Yeah Tough Dominican, Pallante is looking more impressive with each outing. We could have one of our present most effective starters relegated to mop up duties……go figure.

Neil Pallante still dealing in the 8th…..hate seeing him used like this.

Cron strikes out swinging as he waves at one way wide of the zone…..that was so far outside that if that had been a medicine ball he was trying to whack, he still would have come up empty.

    Grichuk strikes out looking.

    Diaz strikes out swinging.

Indeed, TD. I actually never thought I’d see DeJong back up with the big club….ever again. You wonder if they didn’t try to deal him, but received no decent offers? He’s obviously not going to continue at this torrid a pace, but you have to be excited for him ….and the team.

Top of 8. Gomber still pitching.

Edman lines a base hit to left.

Goldy on 3-2 flies out to Grichuk in short center field.

    Edman swipes 2nd base.

Arenado ….boy does he ever pull those foul balls with authority …..how physically can a human get around so quickly on ML pitches? Nolan flies out to Daza in relatively deep left field a few feet inside the chalk.

    Albert rips a base hit to left…..Tommy E. is rounding 3rd and he’s not stopping….the slide….and they’re going to nail him…out!

Neil Pallante on to pitch the 7th. I think I would have not preferred to utilize Pallante in a mop-up situation….. he’s been pitching much too well for that sort of duty.

And Pallante sets them down 1-2-3.

    Top of 7. Gomber

DeJong lambastes a Gomber offering to deep left-center and Daza or anyone else in a white and black uniform is not going to catch this one as it bangs up against the wall on a hop and the hot hitting Paulie has himself another double….he is sizzling hot at the plate right now….I never expected this out of him when he was lingering down in Memphis. I’ll tell you what, next time he goes into a deep hitting funk, he needs to immediately be sent down to Memphis to get him kick started again, as it certainly worked once.

Yadi lines a base hit to right …. Paulie rounds 3rd and is heading on home and we’re going to have a play there….. he’s out…..and Yadi will trudge into 2nd.

Nooty squirts a slow roller out to Iglesias at short and he’ll have to hurry…..out by an inch with Yadi taking up new residence over at 3rd.

Carlson grounds out to Iglesias at SS.

This 6th inning may have been Quintana’s best on the evening as he sets them down in one pretty little chorus line 1-2-3. Quintana at 103 pitches as this inning draws it’s curtains closed.

Top of 6. Gomber still Colorado’s main man.

Edman on 3-2 grounds out to McMahon at 3rd base.

Goldy on 3-2 strikes out swinging.

Arenado whacks a high and deep drive to left!…..Daza looks up and bombs away baby! Long gone and it’s now 7-2 Cards. The precise second that ball left Nolan’s bat he knew where it was going and where it was going to end up.

Albert hits it a mile high…..and a mile deep in the Mile High City……. and that’s a back-to-back bombs away baby!!! Oh that was a sweet sweet swing ……8-2 Birds.

    O’Neill…. strikes out.

Wow…..never knew that, TD….Yogi whiffing only 12 times in 656 PA’s is truly amazing. I would think Wade Boggs had some pretty fair stats in that department too…… I’ll have to look that up.

A Cron triple scores a run slicing the Redbird lead to 6-2 with 2 down. Grichuk coming up….flies out to Carlson in center to limit the 5th inning damage at just the one run.

Top of 5. Freeland starts this frame with 83 heaves under his belt.

O’Neill grounds out to McMahon at 3rd base.

DeJong drives it deep to right….. Blackmon looks up and it bangs off the wall and Paulie will prance into 2nd with a double.

Yadi smokes a liner to left that’ll hit once and then dent the left field wall… DeJong will score but Yadi, thanks to his rather pedestrian foot speed, will have to settle for a single…..6-1 Birds.
    Pitching change.

    Austin Gomber on for Colorado.

Nooty grounds it out to Cron at 1st who will whip it down to Iglesias at 2nd base to get Yadi….2 out

    Nooty swipes 2nd base

Carlson grounds out to Iglesias at SS.

Quintana at 56 pitches as this bottom of the 4th gets under way. Grichuk grounds out to Tommy E. at 2nd base. Diaz pokes it into left for a hit. McMahon strikes out swinging. Elvis is in the building…..and let’s hope he stays in it…..and he does as he grounds a base hit into left field……9 game hitting streak for Elvis now ….only 47 more to tie and 48 to own it all by his lonesome. Daza strikes out swinging to end the inning with no damage inflicted.

    Top of 4.

Edman grounds out to McMahon at 3rd base.

Goldy on 3-2 grounds it wickedly towards Iglesias at short who makes a sparkling pickup and then fires a one hopper to 1st base to get his man….darn nice play Iglesias.

Arenado lines a base hit to left.

Albert hits a slow chopper towards 2nd base that Iglesias will intercept and wing it on over to Cron’s waiting mitt at 1st base to retire the side.

Great comments Tough Dominican! The only thing I can say is that you were born for the booth…….and that so adequately sums it up…….our newest member One Tough Dominican was born for the booth.

Iglesias sac fly to right scores Colorado’s first run on the evening. Then Quintana entices Rodgers to chase a pitch over his head for strike 3 and then Cron fouls out to Yadi, so the one run is all that Colorado can put on the board……5-1 Good Guys heading to the 4th.

Top of 3. I hope like heck there’s no rain in the greater Denver forecast this evening.,…at least not for the next hour or so.

DeJong pops it up over near 2nd base where Rodgers camps under….no he gives way to the right fielder Blackmon who nearly misplays the ball, but has it for the out.

Yadi grounds out to Iglesias at SS.

Nooty blisters a shot to right-center that’s heading to the wall…..it clanks up against the wall and Nooty hits 2nd base but then says that’s not good enough as he has 3 in mind and he’ll have himself a standup triple.

Carlson grounds it out to Freeland who gloves it and wheels around and fires it over to Cron at 1st base to retire the side.

I’m kind of worried about Quintana’s mounting pitch count as he walks the leadoff Rockie here in the 2nd ……27 so far. McMahon gets called out on strikes. Our old pal Elvis Montero on 3-2 raps into a 5-4-3 twin killing to retire the side.

    Top of 2.

    Edman strikes out looking.

    Goldy walks.

Arenado bounces it right back to Freeland who whips it to 2nd….pulls Iglesias off the bag but he quickly gets back to the bag for the out …..ohh I’m not so sure they got him at 2nd…..but mysteriously the Cardinals will not challenge the call.

Albert hits it to deep left!….Albert briefly admires it before running….and the ball will hit the track and bounce up into the seats for a ground rule double.

O’Neill flies out to Blackmon in right.
