“Cautious with his long layoff”? Granted, we’re only 5 games in, but due to circumstances mostly beyond our control, you can almost start the cubbie magic number clock a ticking for winning the divisional title. With all of this time off, how do you not have both Flaherty and Hudson good to go for games 1 and 2 in this all important series vs our arch rivals?

Concerning Oscar Tuero; what causes a talented young hurler to hang up the cleats after only 3 seasons? By all accounts, this crafty Cuban had great stuff, as his miniscule 2.88 career ERA can attest to. As a quick aside, Oscar survived this planet’s last great (for lack of a better word) influenza pandemic during 1918-19. He was in the vulnerable age group, as that particular pandemic not only ravaged the very old, but also people under 5 years of age, as well as those between age 20-40.

Funny stuff, Euro! Right after I posted that, I too checked Brinkman’s stats out and was shocked to see that he had a cup of coffee with us and actually uncorked a long one in a Redbird uni. I would love to see the video of Eddie’s long Cardinal bomb. Is it possible to get that from ’75?

Very much looking forward to the start of the ’20 campaign and game threading it with all of you yahoos, EuroDandy. Luckily, my Milwaukee Bucks have been making this winter bearable. Go Cardinals, Go Bucks, and Go Eddie Brinkman!…….my Packers? Not speaking to them after their absolutely LAME performance in Frisco.

Don’t be shocked if Alexander “The Great” sneaks into Cranny’s “Steady Eddie” bracket. As a quick, but pertinent aside, the first baseball “Eddie” that popped to mind was Eddie Brinkman of Detroit. One would think it would have been Braves great, Eddie Matthews.

    And don’t say DeJong isn’t a MOTOB.

“MOTOB” spelled backward is “BOTOM”, TexasCard.

Yeah I think this topic is far from being put to bed. If anyone does not think that Colorado is merely postering here, in order to sway our Birds into sweetening their offer for Arenado, then they need to come to grips with the situation. Behind the scenes, things certainly appear smoking red hot to me. The signs are all there and we don’t need the Astros and Red Sox to be banging their trash barrels right before our very eyes to let us know what is most likely coming. I would not be surprised in the least if Arenado isn’t ours by this coming weekend.

Pugs, what happened to those Packers in San Francisco???

Nightmare of a game, Rat! I know we GB fans are spoiled, but it’s becoming painfully obvious to me that we need to start looking for our next general (QB) very quickly. Unfortunately, numerous more pressing issues exist on the other side of the ball. It’s been so long since we’ve had that real tough smack you in the mouth football team. I miss Chuck Cecil!

No I don’t, CC. Edman is a player you just don’t let go of. Some players are simply untouchable. On our Cardinals, Goldy is touchable….Wong is touchable…..O’Neill is touchable….Marcell is very touchable….Carp & Fowler, heck you can maul those two……Edman, Flaherty and Thomas are untouchables. As much as I would hate to part with Hudson, I would in an Arenado trade.

Yep, me and Rat poked our heads out the other day and did not see any trace of our shadows……thus commencing an abrupt end to our hibernation. Thanks Scotty!

You may lose one of them, GameCard. The two I don’t want to lose are Edman & Thomas. But how many Thomas’, Carlsons and Liberatores have we seen over the years who did not materialize or ended up being mediocre players? Too many to count. You get a shot at someone the caliber of an Arenado and you just have to pull that trigger. He is that rare monster buck.

Sweet post, Sheepdawg!! I know these guy’s main purpose is to amuse, entertain and perform well for us, but it’s always nice to get an inkling on just what kind of people they are. The only real horses a** I ever met in the entertainment industry was Richard Dawson of ‘Family Feud’ and ‘Hogan’s Heroes’ fame. That guy’s head was 4 times the size of Barry Bonds’….if you can believe that.

Madison now, ATSOTC, as my wife’s little brother and his family have taken up residence in my old home in Milwaukee (Whitefish Bay). I had Diz and Austin’s phone numbers at one time……would love to hear from those rascallions. Where are you at now, ATSOTC? Go Birds!

This is madness. I’m beginning to think that the best thing for baseball may be an “anything goes approach”. Anything legal that is. Secret and unsecret cameras everywhere trying to steal signs….players and coaches shouting out what pitch may be on it’s way to hulking roid riddled batters……pitchers openly lubing up balls on the mound with Vaseline…..Colorado(where it’s legal) Rockie players firing up dubbies in the dugout during the 7th inning stretch….what ever happened to “baseball, apple pie and Chevrolet”?

I have no doubt that you would be the best trash can banger east of the Mississippi, Rat. Except for one thing. I think once you started wailing away on your trash can “once, sometimes twice” as you say, you would find it impossible not to use that as a lead in to go right into theme songs of some of your fav tv shows. I could see you banging out the theme song of ‘Streets of San Francisco’ for fastballs, ‘Mannix’ for offspeed stuff and maybe the theme tune of ‘Bonanza’ for an upcoming knuckler.

Bring back Easton, Austin, Diz and maybe a cameo appearance by U F A N, and I’m coming out of my annual winter hibernation two months early. It’s hard to believe it’s been 10 years. I believe Easton had 2 young sons, who would now probably be in high school. Austy has an infant daughter, who would now be like in the 5th grade. Diz had a very nice niece, who most likely still is sizzzzling hot! And U F A N had his beloved Miami Hurricanes, who still pretty much suck in all major sports. Welcome home, Easty!!!

Or, will Cora only be involved?

Cora is going to pay a huge price
…..maybe even more than what the Houston *Asterisks got levied with yesterday. If I’m Manfred, I’m making Cora manage the Mets for at least the next 3 years…..that’ll get him!

I actually agree with you, CardsFanInChiTown. And that is why Arenado will not be a St. Louis Cardinal. I doubt that Colorado would consider anything less than a Gorman-Knizner-Gant-Bader package for Arenado. And it’s also unlikely that Mo would part with those four……but I sure as heck would…..in a heartbeat.

In a perfect world, the cubbies 2016 squad would have preceded the Astro and Red Sox teams in this mess. And the cubs cheating would have been so egregious that Manfred had no choice but to strip them of their title. Then we’d be looking at what……about a 115 year drought right now. Hey…..has anybody looked into this possibility?

Any proposed trade for Arenado better have Gormon in the equation, or Colorado will not even look Mo in the eyes. Gorman, Gant and Knizer at least gets their attention….but the Cards are going to have to even sweeten the pot a bit more to get it done.

Pugs, given the way former cubs players have worked out for the Cardinals, are you sure you want to sign a former cubs player?

Great question, LACardFan! Having spent only a couple months in the Windy City, Castellanos cannot quite be classified as “damaged goods”. He’s getting out of Dodge in just the “Nick” of time.

I too loved Scotty’s post, stlcard25. Hopefully, Mo does too and will bring this guy into the Redbird nest.

It’s not even close….I’ll take Castellanos over Marcell in a heartbeat. Over the last 15 years, the cubbies have been signing Cardinal players ( Edmonds, Marquis, Lackey, Heyward, Jon Jay, Motte, Taguchi, Descalso, Mather, Miles, etc.) left and right. What cubbies have we signed during that period? Dexter, Grudzielanek and Theriot….whoopie do. It’s high time that we started signing some of their players who still have plenty of gas left in the tank. Let’s go get Castellanos.

The Cardinals had their elite player…..right there for the taking……and Mo didn’t nab him. Close your eyes real tight and imagine this—-Christian Yelich in a St. Louis Cardinals uniform. If that thought doesn’t send an excited shiver down your spine then check pulse to see if you’re still with us. And I don’t want to hear that gibberish about Mo saying that Yelich wasn’t on the table when the Cards dealt for their other outfielder(Ozuna), FIVE WEEKS PRIOR to the Yelich trade to Milwaukee. Think about it. Does anyone actually believe that Mo would admit to the truth…..that all he had to do was to have made a serious play for Yelich and it would have been Christian heading to St. Louis instead of Marcell. I wonder if Mo’s pursuit of Ozuna instead of Yelich two years ago, has ever kept him awake, tossing and turning…..I bet it has….or let’s hope it has.
