When the Cards are in town, I generally go to 2 of the games at Milwaukee County Stadium, Rat. I don’t have quite the primo seats that Amy has, but mine aren’t bad, being 11 rows up from the visitors dugout. Not sure if I’ll be in attendance this weekend, as I’ll be announcing a high school football game tomorrow (Friday) night and then have a wedding to attend on Saturday afternoon.
My thoughts are with you during this most difficult time, Albert. Judging by what we know of your writings here, undoubtedly your father was a very special person.
If the Brewers have home field advantage throughout the playoffs all wrapped up, the only thing we’ll see The Miz doing in the game is spitting out sunflower seed shells in the dugout……probably not quite at the speed that he can throw a baseball though.
Hopefully the Cardinals will never allow Walker to participate in a Home Run Derby of any sort ever again. That had to have something to do with the 2026 Walker reverting back to the 2025 Walker.
Bernal just singled in Burleson making it 3-1 Birds in the top of the 3rd. Burly picked up RBI #112 earlier in the inning.

Good one, TD. Just looked up Veale’s(properly pronounced “veel”) stats and his lifetime 3.07 ERA in just short of 2000 innings are nothing to sneeze at. You know I don’t think the Pirates have any pitcher in the HoF who played solely for the Pittsburgh franchise.
Unfortunately not totally, but still partially unbelievable that we could only get one hit off these guys. Thinking off the top of my head of all time great Pirate hurlers in their long storied franchise, surprisingly not many spring forth. Bert Blyleven, John Tudor, John Candalaria, Steve Blass, Bob Moose, Elroy Face……and the first two I just mentioned performed their finest body of work with the Twins and Cardinals respectively and not the Pirates. This Pirate franchise is loaded for bear historically in great position players, but not great pitchers. Anyway, I still think Bernal is going to have a wonderful series. Let’s win a game or two here in Pennsylvania for the gipper…..shall we.

Nighty nite Cardinal in France. Mr. Bernal will have bestowed a little treat upon you when you review tonight’s box score tomorrow morning……if we can muster a measly hit off Cy Jones here. We embark upon inning #6 in a scoreless affair.

Look for a monster of a series from Leonardo Abdiel Bernal. Bernal would have fit right in with those tenacious Pirate teams featuring Dave Parker, Davey Cash, Richie Hebner, Richie Zisk, Manny Sanguillen, Freddie Patek, Bob Robertson and of course Willie Stargell. Anyway, The minute Leonardo steps off that plane in The Steel City, he’s going to feel it. Bernal is going to love his first taste of playing in Pittsburgh and boy the results are going to be superb.
If I may, please allow me to submit into evidence Exhibit A (Rat’s above weather report)as to why Rat is this nation’s supreme meteorologist. And we all should feel extremely blessed to have him with us right here at The Cardinal Nation.
Din-Din tonight will be breakfast for din-din. Stepping up to the plate will be scrambled eggs with mass quantities of onions and cheddar cheese, all beef sausage links, red potato wedges, French toast and Folger’s black silk coffee.
If McGonigle was in the NL, then he’d take NL RoY honors. Love JJ, but Stewart has it all wrapped up in the NL…….and it’ll be by a larger margin than expected. I’ll have to check the odds on Stewart winning it and if attractive enough, I’d put down a pretty penny on it……..if he wasn’t vying for the distinction vs a Cardinal. I just can never find it in my heart to bet against the Cardinals or any of it’s players.
Haha! You need to take the plunge and pick up a few of Popeye’s delish apple cinnamon pies, Scotty……with one warning. Do NOT buy just one, for if you do, you’ll find yourself heading right on back to get additional ones after taking your first bite. I’ve tried a zillion homemade apple pies and McDonald’s hideous apple pies, but none vaguely compare to Popeye’s apple cinnamon pies. If I were to skip din-din and instead eat another but Popeye’s apple cinnamon pies, I bet I could gobble up 35 of them with no problem……which conjures up a brilliant challenge. That perennial hot dog eating champion…….I want to say his name is Joey Chestnut. I hereby challenge Joey to a Popeye’s apple cinnamon pie eating contest and I’ll even spot him a 10 pie head start. Go Cardinals!
Me too, as I usually have one for lun-lun( lunch ) on either Saturday or Sunday. If I haven’t previously thanked Scotty for the great suggestion, I’ve been terribly remiss……thanks Scotty! And Scotty isn’t the only din-din author who I’ve plagiarized over the years. I’ve swipped more than one Cardinal in France din-din revelation…..many more than one.
Indeed Jnevel, Leonardo Abdiel Bernal with yet another big hit for us…..the guy is clutch! And speaking of “clutch”, we’d be remiss in not acknowledging Gassy’s sterling performance with his 2 K’s in his one inning of perfection. Tip of the cap to Herrera and his 2 thundering dingers and O’Brien notching another Save. Now let’s go on the road where we play our best ball and maybe win 4 or 5 of these remaining 6 contests before calling 2026 a wrap.
And what’s for din-din one may ask? It’ll be delivered din-din from the Flaming Wok. I think I’ll be opting for egg food young with extra onion, crab rangoons and for dessert I’ll be sneaking on over to the Popeye’s drive thru lane to corral myself not 1…..not 2……not even 3……but 4 of their scrumptious apple cinnamon pies to celebrate the Packs stunning comeback win vs the previously unbeaten New York Jets.

I think you’re short-changing Bernal a bit, Scotty. I would think Bernal’s trade value is significantly higher than Jimmy Lee Crooks’. And I’m confident that we’ll see Bernal do defensively what Walker has done since emerging on the scene……vastly improve. Bernal is a keeper.
Starting pitchers today with a combined record of an abysmal 9-15, but with a respectable combined ERA of……off the top of my head about 3.59. Something has to give today. Although it’s not a given, I believe one of these hurlers is going to be credited with a “W”. McGreevy has to be thinking about finishing the season with a 9-9 record. And with the Cardinals coming off a game where these Nats totally shellacked them……at HOME…….all signs point to a St. Louis victory today. This is not……and for all of you betting aficionados about there……this is not one of my slam dunk guaranteed bet the ranch on the game contests. But totally feel free with slapping down a cool 4 or 5 bills on our Birds to prevail this evening. I’m calling it 6-3 Cards with McGreevy picking up win #8 and JJ whacking a round tripper with bat in hand.
I was planning on a 4pm din-din up in the Dells today, but it’s been raining like crazy up here, with much more “green stuff”(as Rat would say) hanging around the region through tomorrow morning.
As if the Cardinals 9-1 setback wasn’t somber enough for Rat, his beloved Jasper Wildcats also took it on the chin last night to that upstart varsity squad out of Evansville Mater Dei. 16-13 the somber final, as Mater Dei’s Edwin Phineas Rainey scampered 10 yards to paydirt in the 4th quarter to win it. Jasper falls to 1-4 on the campaign. I think the only way that Jasper can turn things around is to bring famed Indiana high school coach Norman Dale out of retirement. But recent rumors have been swirling about that Ithaca college in upstate New York is poised to give Coach Dale another shot at coaching it’s underachieving basketball squad if and only if coach D. solemnly promises not whack any of it’s players along side the head for challenging his authority.
He’s a flash in the pan. By the middle of next year, hurlers will be pitching around Amaya to get to PCA.
So, my question is – do they actually call it the Cy Young award in Japan?

I believe they call it the Foo Young award in Japan, Rat.
Congratulations to Richard Keith “Stubby” Clapp. Has been with us since being drafted in ’96 as a young pup. One would think that Chaim David Bloom would have made an appearance at this event in Memphis.
