The bunt turns out to be a big waste.

    They usually do.

O’Neill’s plate discipline has improved significantly this season.

    The umpires’ have not.

Pugs, the Cardinals have nothing to sell.

The only person on an expiring contract worth anything is Kim, and they said he might just go back to Korea if traded.

Wow. Utter meltdown. Just when the Cardinals seemed to be getting back on track.

Holgate and Love are signed, both underslot, but not considerably so.

It looks like the Cardinals have $1,030,455 left to sign Willis and any other players that require more than $125k after round 10, with the 5% overage on their bonus pool.

Goldy stays red hot. We can probably stop talking about trading him. If he keeps hitting like this he might get into the MVP race. I knew his numbers would come around before the end of the year. He has always been a warm weather hitter.

He was a drag on the team during the first two months of the season.

He has improved his OPS to tenth in MLB for first basemen (qualified hitters), which means one third of the first basemen have a better OPS than he does.

Funny, I always receive email confirmations when I book a hotel room, whether I do so personally or through a corporate travel department, and whether I do so through the hotel directly or through a travel site.

So, McGreevy signed for $2.75 million. That means the Cardinals have roughly $1.7 million to sign Baez and Willis

It seems from the article that they have submissions from both the analysts and scouts for every pick. The Cardinals, as a whole, seem to be an organization driven more by scouts. If you’ve noticed the past few years, the scout in North Carolina seems to have some pull. There has been a player from ECU picked by the Cardinals in four out of the last five drafts. Plus all the UNC, NC State players, etc.

I would guess this is one he saw something he liked, and they just went with it.

What don’t you understand? In a 40 round draft, they typically draft 2-4 catchers. In a 20 round draft, they drafted one.

No middle infielders so far. It’s pretty obvious that they’re drafting for need.

Middle infielders are also a need in the system.

One thing MO has said before, and I agree with, is that MLB is not a developmental league. It is a results oriented league.

So, don’t get mad when we trade away a player with between 0-300 plate appearances and he goes on to star at another club, right?

How much are they going to reduce payroll next year due to a decline in fan attendance per game, given that they have said many times that payroll is based on attendance?

I don’t think the Cardinals are going to grab an outfielder.

They should be trying to sign one of Scherzer, Lynn or Stroman, at a minimum.

    Who is Fletcher?

And at this point, I think you have to write off Mikolas.

Nogo was a no-show for us, although he never got a chance for regular playing time. The way it is going he will likely be the Player of the Week here soon for Pittsburgh.

    Yep.

@rat – batting average has forever been presented as part of a triple slash line with OBP and Slugging % – why exclude those if you are going to make an argument?

Is it because they don’t give you the narrative you are trying to argue?

For instance, Harrison Bader is currently sitting on a .300 OBP and Tommy Edman is sitting on a .308. So, what’s the difference between the two? If Bader gets a hit on his next AB, they are identical.

He also has an OPS of .749 vs Edman’s .683. One player is 10% above league average, the other is 6% below.

But you can tell all that from batting average, right?

Arenado is the starting 3B for the NL in the All Star game and Goldy is on pace for 25 HR’s and 85 RBI’s so I don’t agree that they are that bad.

Relative to the career norms they are being paid for, they are bad.

No, they aren’t but this team has much bigger problems than those two.

The two biggest salaries on the team are underperforming. Those are pretty big problems, especially when looking at the remainder of their contracts.

Suggest you read a few of the scouting reports on L.J. Jones,
    Blingboy.

Listen to what his coach says about his power.

And please don’t quote me 2021 stats when he’s only played in 31 games, after most of last 2 seasons off.

    Look more closely, blingboy.

Are you always this condescending? Is this how you engage in conversations with your friends, family or co-workers?

You are the only one that believes a college hitter that hasn’t produced in Low A is equivalent to high school hitters that have.

Reiterating your stance over and over isn’t going to change that. Being condescending isn’t going to change that.

But then I am not sure anyone is available in the high minors to audition.

Kramer Robertson is the obvious choice to take Carpenter’s position, but it seems as though they are intent on letting Carpenter play out the year.

Teams value bullpen help for a pennant push, so the most marketable guys are likely Cabrera and Gallegos.

I find it funny that everyone complains about our bullpen this year, but wants to trade away the bullpen pieces that have been most effective. What do we do for a bullpen next year?
