With last night’s game a clunker I did not bother to watch the condensed version this morning while having my healthy breakfast.
Working today’s Rockies-Marlins tilt, which is an afternoon affair so should be able to take in our game live. 8 1/2 back now and fading even from second in the division. We look more and more like a club that is mostly laying for a better future than going for a post season berth.
And the Reds, who were 20-11 around early May, are now 14.5 games out of 1st place.
When it happens it can happen quick.
Taking a gander at the meteorological conditions tonight in central Georgia. All appears to be clear but, as I said yesterday, when it’s this hot and humid those popup thunderstorms can occur in just a matter of minutes.
Its about 93 here today in SW Indiana. I am about to jump on the John Deere and mow. Then grab din-din which will be a Hungry Man’s Fried Chicken dinner, an ice cold slushy Mt. Dew, a piece of Apple Pie, and a bowl of Turkey Hill Homemade Vanilla ice cream.
Me and Whitey Herdog will be on the couch later tonight for this one. Then late tonight we’ll be tuning in to the Padres and Doyers from Doyer Stadium. Along with a couple of 7×50 Palma Real Presidente cigars.

And a quick looksee at the only game being played this afternoon.
The Reds and the Brewers from Miller Park in Milwaukee. A highly anticipated pitching matchup between Frank Burns from the Reds and Jacob Mazeroski from the Brewers.
And thanks to an error by Brewers 1B Bauers the Reds are currently out in front 6-2 in the 7th. Mazeroski gave up five runs in five innings but only one has been earned.
And I just got done mowing the yard. It’s about 93 and sunny here today. I am hoping there won’t be any effects such as heat exhaustion.
Time for din-din……

Its 97 here right now so I’m not mowing any lawn. I been out to dump a bucket of fresh water in the bird bath a couple times. It draws a crowd.
Hopefully Blaze can bounce back. He could use a good game. So far I don’t think Gormy is doing much, but that could change if he has a hot week.
That Burns/Misiorowski pitching matchup reminded me that it’s been quite some time since the Cardinals have produced a young pitcher who proved to be what could rightfully be termed as a stopper or ace. The only Redbird pitcher in the last 20 years that immediately comes to mind who unquestionably belongs in that category is Adam Wainwright, who was only 23 when he first worked in a Big League game as a Cardinal in ’05, and proved himself in the Big Leagues as a closer during the latter portion of the ’06 regular and post-season. Beginning in ’07 he subsequently established himself as a thoroughbred member of the Cardinal rotation for 16 years. Since that time we’ve seen quite few guys come along who are touted by the promo men as the second coming of this or that or the other. Garcia, Miller, Martinez and, the latest edition in the person of Liberatore. They try to convince me that I’m looking at Steve Carlton but, although I’m easily fooled, I can still discern the difference despite the jersey #…In any case, I’ll be real pleased when the Cardinals finally produce the pitching version of an Albert Pujols. Maybe the one they call Bloom has his vast armada of pitching expert guys hard at work and on the lookout for the next Cardinal CYA winner. If they were to indeed uncover one, I’d say they’d probably issue him jersey #45, but I’ve been led to understand it’s not available.
Yeah, it’s more than a little toasty out there today, Bling. I’m sure those birds are enjoying that Swedish sauna you prepared for them…It should loosen up those wings for that long southbound flight this winter.
Good to see Walker with a HR. He has been in a slump lately and maybe he is starting to come out of it
It was about 10 minutes ago when the entire conversation should have consisted of, “Hand me the baseball.”
After he worked that CG shutout against SD he was the ace of the rotation for years to come. In his subsequent 2 turns he’s worked a total of 2.2 IP’ed while allowing 11 ER’s on 11 H’s including 2 HR’s to go along with 3 BB’s. He also almost lost an inner tie rod end during tonight’s abbreviated outing…
Ivan’s normally pretty patient and selective, but he chased one at the top of his cleats on the 3-1 GIDP.
Long way to go, but if the Cardinals can hang on to place this one in the W column, in my estimation, it’ll be the most important win this season. These kids don’t pack it in.
