An all American 4th of July Cardinals/Cubs weekend of baseball at Wrigley Field. I can’t think of too many ways to better celebrate America’s 250th Birthday. “Let Freedom Ring” and, “Play ball!”

I took a look at the All Star voting update. Wow the fan vote process is horrible. The AL is basically just Canada voting strong for Blue Jays. Ernie Clement as the highest vote getter in the AL? He isn’t even deserving of a spot on the roster. Highest vote getter should easily have been Bobby Witt Jr. I don’t know how you could cast a ballot of not have that guy written in with ink as the AL SD selection.

Let’s go Redbirds! Hoping Pallante and the ‘pen can hold back the Cubbies and the offense continues to roll!

The Cubs have been hotter than a firecracker lately. While we always strive for a series win I would settle for 1 out of 3 this weekend. Just don’t get swept.

Despite persistent and ridiculous blather to the contrary, starter wins matters, and Pallante has the knack for coming way with them. On top of that, our offense just destroyed Atlanta’s supposedly good pen, a feat which eludes lesser lineups. So, I think it is a safe bet to get started chiseling a ‘W’ into the record book.

Taking a gander at the weather conditions today.

First, here in SW Indiana as I type this we are having one of those popup thunderstorms that can happen when it gets hot and humid. It’s been low 90s this week and very humid.

And from a Wrigley standpoint there is a line of storms/rain just west of Chicago as I am typing this. Of course first pitch is 2 and 1/2 hours away yet so not sure that will impact the game or not. Stay tuned for further meteorological updates.

Din-din will be a ribeye steak on the grill today. I am sure Whitey Herdog will get a few bites.

Can’t get too much more Americana than Cards-Cubs over July 4th weekend. Even the uni’s will be red, white and blue.

We are having the exact same din-din tomorrow as Rats today – ribeye steaks on the grill. It is courtesy of my step-daughter who is putting together the festivities at her townhouse pool area. All we need to bring are a side dish or dessert, and our swim suits. 😁⛱️

In an attempt to assert our French/Americanness on the approach of July 4, Madame CiF and I had a din-din of topside roast, baked potatoes, and corn on the cob with a dessert of fresh raspberries.

Tomorrow’s 250th takes us back to the 200th version when the CiFs were working in New York and watching the magnificent tall ships sail up the Hudson.

Today I’ll be rooting for our Cardinals to sail past the Cubs. Another 11-5 would be fine, though I would prefer to get to the offensive festivities a little earlier.

    Rah Cardinals!

As of right now, it doesn’t look like this game will be played today…

    Astute observation LACardFan!

The Doppler shows alot of green stuff in the Chicago area. Not sure if it will eventually clear out in time to get this one in at some point in time today.

    Stay tuned……

The Cardinals faced this LHP’er in early June as he entered the game from the BP when he was still a Met. He received a less than warm greeting as the Redbirds touched him up for 6 ER’s on 7 H’s, of which 2 were HR’s, in 3.2 IP’ed. I’m hoping that the Cardinal hitters will make him wish he’d have stayed in NY when he takes his turn at Wrigley in today’s baseball game.

I am guessing it will depend on how well the field drains. The latest radar view I got shows things clearing up on the Northside around 3:30pm or so.

There used to be a weather guy here in StL named Dave McMurphy. I was led to understand that he was a first rate weather guy, but he retired a couple of years ago. I’ll bet he could tell us whether or not the Cardinals/Cubs game was going to be a scratch. Legend has it that he didn’t need any fancy radar machines or weather maps. Ol’ Dave could simply take a look out of his window and tell you whether or not you needed an umbrella…

Uh oh…2 out trouble in the first as Pallante now has to face Happ with 2 baserunners aboard.

I had a bad feeling with Happ standing in, but Pallante sits him down with the K.

Ah, the 200th. I remember it as well as I was a youthful lad into the “sowing my wild oats” time. Me and some buddies went out to the reservoir near our area in central Wyoming, consuming mass quantiles of beer and snacks and hanging out with other guys and gals from the old hometown.

Me and this girl were kind of goofing around on a pier and she bumped me into the water. I wore contact lenses back in those days and despite the libations had the good sense to close my eyes as I went in the water, not losing my contacts.

Man, those were fun times, but glad I got out of that lifestyle in due time and got serious about the future and got back in to college.

    No score after one.

Church has been answering a lot of prayers of late with some heavenly bolts to the bleachers.

As Mike Shannon would say to Pallante, “There is your lead big boy. Now shut them down.”
