Everyone agrees Jj is an elite defensive player. Statistics agree he is an elite defensive player. I’m an older fan. So you can stick to our father’s and grand fathers statistics or you can learn how to use Google and find out what all the newer metrics mean and how they’re calculated. Baseball still uses all the traditional stats. We’ve just found their importance has been recalibrated. Many Baseball statistician now consider wrc+ as being the best statistics to value a players overall contribution to his team scoring runs. Anyway, here’s a list of the leaders. JJ is good.

My dad used to take me to A’s games in KC before they left. That’s how I became a Cardinal fan. They broadcast Cardinals games every night on the radio. I latched on and never was a Royals fan. Went to a party and Cardinals game in StLouis after college at mizzou in 1980. I’m still here.
Gorman is world’s better at the hot corner. He was almost unplayable there and at the dish most of 2025.
It was an awful thing to watch. But his defense has improved to a level that if he can just show some incremental improvement in his ops he can hold his place there.
Any Gorman haters may not want to hear this, but his third base defense had been played at an elite level in 2026, ranking third amongst all third basemen in oaa. Makes it a little easier waiting for his homeruns.
someone who doesnt have the distinction of being a top draft pick and very popular wouldnt be getting all those chances with the same batting average.
He could be un drafted and would still be playing every inning of every game. Obp .350 slg.407 ops .757. Ba isn’t what it used to be. All those other #’s are more important when calculating productivity. Not to mention being 7th overall defensive out above average.
He’s still a rookie making the jump from aaa to majors. A very talented rookie. I think he’s smart and will make the adjustments. Fortunately his defense is elite. 7th in league defensive oaa. So waiting for him to find offensive consistency is pretty painless. Those eye popping dp with Winn kind of make you forget about it.
It’s been a long while since baseball has affected my scheduling of activities. I’ve taken a daily bicycle ride for decades, as well as worked and watched Cardinal baseball in season. I get it all scheduled in but Sunday can be an issue. No time before church for the bike ride. After Church is generally Cardinal game on. So usually I take a shorter ride than watch the second half of the game. But if we beat the Dodgers tonight, I will watch the whole game and most likely miss my bike ride. It’s a good problem if it happens.
I’ve wiped out everything that requires no effort to make. Except some microwave wild rice and a potpie. So there it is. With some Arnie Palmer diet half and half.
But the good game isn’t close to enough to convince me.
I get your cautionary approach. I saw him during his end of the year cameo and the beginning of this year. There’s a reason Saggese was getting turns out there. The last 15 games have been torrid, and as you say his minor league stats show good bat to ball skills. So there’s reason to believe he can settle into a permanent role. No one expects him to continue his current pace. But Scott just isn’t cutting g it. When Noot returns we need him to be good enough to justify him taking Scott’s place in center.
Nothings set in stone yet except barring injury Wetherholt is quickly becoming what we hoped he would. Walker has made big gains on both sides of the field. Even Gorman could still emerge. And now we are hopeful Church can establish his offensive game to go with his already above average defensive play. Scott has clearly regressed. But overall we have made huge gains in adding to our core of Herrera, Winn, and Burleson. Now we need to see something on the pitching side besides injuries to our prospects.

I agree 100%. From a developement and rebuild standpoint, we are ahead of what anyone could have expected. Today’s game was uplifting from the point of view that Church is starting to look like a core guy. Everything about his game is getting better. As you say, this season isn’t about wins and losses, although I know that angers a lot of folks
OK here’s what’s on the menu Rat. Tired from a week’s work, I elected to go the carry out route. Poor Richard’s is right up the street, so I called in their world famous chicken wing special. Caesar salad, 12 wings with hot sauce and blue cheese dressing on the side with garlic bread. To be washed down with Arnie Palmer half and half diet tea and lemonade. Than on the way back i couldn’t prevent my car from pulling in Walgreens where I procured a pint of Ben and Jerry’s Half Baked. Although that company leans way to far left for my taste, my taste had no standards when it comes to desserts. In the 5th inning I shall remove the lid and throw it in the trash on my way back to my chair where I will watch the rest of the game while I polish off the pint. Most likely I will also fall asleep full and hopefully happy with a Cardinal victoy.
The Dodgers have a huge competitive advantage over most teams. That’s a fact. Will they do something about it?
