Baseball can be a funny game so how’s about a little humor? After some brainy professor from MIT claimed that the curveball was an optical illusion, Dizzy Dean’s response was to say, “Tell that scientist to go and hide behind a tree and I’ll optical illusion him to death”…

Facing Jacob DeGrom tonight. Won’t be easy. If he’s on his game this one will fall into the L column. Then again, there’s a reason why they play the game.

And din-din today will be some Allen’s Green Beans, a couple of baked potatoes, a few baked beans, an ice cold slushy Mt. Dew, and a bowl of Turkey Hill’s Vanilla Bean ice cream.

And later tonight me and Whitey Herdog will be on the couch for the Reds and then the Redbirds. Then late tonight we will tune in to the Doyers and DBacks from Phoenix. Along with a few 7×50 Palma Real Presidente cigars.

DeGrom is definitely hit-able now in his elder years. ERA so far of 3.77 for 2026. I actually feel good for the Cards to win this series. The AL is terrible this year outside of the Rays, who we beat earlier in the year. The better teams are in the NL. Go Cards!

I think to a poster, we all knew before the cubs series started that our boys were going to win that series. Now we get the Rangers. All of the players and coaches from the 2011 AL champion’s squad are obviously gone, but their fans will never forget the Cardinals miraculous comeback to win the world series. Losing a championship in the fashion that the Rangers did in 2011, like we did in ’85 vs the Royals and how the Blue Jays lost the trophy last year, hurts like heck for the rest of your life. Time certainly heals, but the pain never completely goes away. I’m not quite old enough to recall the ’68 series, but beating Detroit in the WS in ’06 must have gone a long way towards healing the wounds from ’68 for seasoned Redbird fans……sorry kind of rambling on here, but I guess the point I was trying to get across is that Ranger fans still hate the Cardinals with a passion and would love nothing better than to royally kick our butts this week.

Dandy din-din, Rat! You know I’m not sure what I’m having, so I think I’ll check out what some of you guys are having and select one of them for myself.

You are correct Pugs that Ranger fans will probably always dislike the Cardinals for the pain that was inflicted on them in 2011. Let us also remember that one of the Cardinal players on that team is now the Rangers manager. Such irony!

Gonna grille some salmon here at the Bikey Mikey abode. We’ll pair that with some dandy pasta salad the Lovely Lady Bike put together yesterday, and probably a vegetable of some
sort although not sure what yet.

We’ll have a batch of fresh strawberries for dessert, and good old water as the beverage of choice.

Good game to watch last night. Took the series from the Northsiders and dropped them a half game behind their south-side Windy City co-habitants. Now let’s get this series off to a winning start.

Gorman is in the starting lineup. Oh boy.

With DeGrom as the starter and the over/under on Gorman strikeouts is 2.5, which one are you taking?

    I’ll take the Over.

Oh, and I forgot to mention.

Looks like Elly Mae de la Cruz for the Reds is going to hit the IL for awhile. He won’t be playing this weekend at Busch. Not sure how long, could be two weeks or it could be four weeks. Slight hamstring injury this past weekend against Atlanta.

Oh, and the weather looks all clear for tonight’s titanic struggle. All clear in Cincinnati and Arizona tonight as well.

Looks like Dobbins is going to stick around and do a similar sort of long relief when he’d hit regular time to start, say around Friday. Sort of like a piggy back starter, but not tied to a particular rotation partner. I find this intriguing. Pretty much a scheduled day of rest for the other 7 guys in the pen. Might be an interesting way to keep them fresh. Big four of O’Brien, Romero, Soriano, and Stanek. Graceffo, Fernandez, and Bruihl to pitch the remaining innings.

Dinner is Mamaw’s chicken casserole. Chicken breasts chopped up into 1″ cubes, minute rice, creams of celery, mushroom, and chicken soup, water, some cheddar cheese, seasoning. I forgot to buy broccoli, so will have a salad on the side. A recipe that I do when I want to cook up a casserole that can be put together in about 10 minutes. Might have some girl scout cookies for dessert, either thin mints or tagalongs.

Tough call between BicycleMike and Gags, but Gags triumphs in today’s Game Thread Din-Din of The Day. And as we speak, I have the g/f in the kitchen trying to duplicate Gags’ feast fit for a king. She said it would be a piece of cake…..we’ll see. And speaking of dessert, I have girl scout cookies galore, as I originally bought 10 boxes of thin mints and 10 boxes of peanut butter. Well plated, Gags and thanks for the din-din suggestion!

I’m calling it 6-5 Birds tonight in a wild one, with Jimmy Lee Crooks ramrodding his first ML tater.

Din-din tonight was a repeat of yesterday’s Armenian meatball soup, finishing the leftovers with iced tea and some Haagen-Dazs butter pecan for dessert.

Enjoyed last night’s game this morning in replay and hoping our offense will show a little more oomph tonight. I eagerly await the day management finally tires of Nolan Gorman and his .210 BA. They just keep running him out there, hoping his occasional spurts of long ball will some day develop into something serious. A five-year look should be enough. There must be some other other third basemen out there we can be looking at instead of watching this guy agitate the oxygen.

I’m coming back from a lovely little procedure this morning after being unable to eat or drink the past 24 hrs. So on the way home I did something I never do which is picked up fast food. It was early and I got Burger King French toast sticks hashbrown patties apple pie and a vanilla shake. Followed up with a nap. For dinner I made miniature potatoes cooked on a cookie sheet than flattened than air fried to crisp. Ciabatta bread and sirloin on the grill. Plenty of Annie’s diet half and half. Ben and Jerry patiently waiting for the third inning. Hi Skip! Loved that guy except all rhd fidgeting he did in-between pitches. I like the shot clock in baseball.

Good because we miss a guy like Matz or even to an extent Leahy. He started a little rough last night but settled in as he progressed. He’s about the best we option we have in the minors.

I guess we find out Friday on who the sacrificial lamb is for Noots return.

My doctor lowered the boom. No more food thats any good. Just husks and rinds and such. Tonight is some kind of crock pot chicken and broccoli with diet 7UP in it. Seasoned with I can’t believe its not salt or something like that. The good news is I can have as much as I want. Or maybe that’s the bad news. Lady Bling will do what she can with it but she is in cahoots with the doctor.

The Ranger’s catcher accidentally spiking the baseball on the aborted pick-off at 1B reminded me of Greinke, during a fit of anger, purposefully spiking the baseball into the HP area dirt at Busch after a couple of Redbirds had crossed HP during the early innings of game 5 of the ’11 NLCS. The baseball bounced straight back up and smacked Zach right in the face…Haha!

    Edit…Anyone remember that?

I have little doubt that no team has exhausted their game challenges as quickly as our Cardinals in this game. It’s a record that may last the entire season.

Should have sent Gorman home. I was about to write that Scott vs deGROM is not a very fair fight…..and then Scotty doubles.

I’ve come to understand that it’s a universal truth that no medical professional of any sort is ever happy to hear even a slight rumor of a man enjoying a meal.

I really like McGreevy’s demeanor. A little more pinpoint control and he could be an old school assassin.
