Every other team in the NLC hung an L up on the board tonight so the Redbirds won’t fall any further off the pace. It sure would be nice to pull this one out of the fire. Still have 6 outs in the bank to work with.
That’s far and away better than I would have ever guessed. If it’s indeed very average, I’ll certainly take it.

I can’t find where are starters rank in innings pitched. I do know as a whole we are about about 18-23rd in ERA, WHIP, BB and dead last in K’s collectively. I mean I guess that’s ok for a rebuilding squad. We won’t be Colorado or White Sox bad.
It does point to a bigger issues with out pitching in the minors. We don’t have much to back these guys up with in the rotation and bullpen. Doesn’t seem like much is on the way either that is impact for now.

I think they’re somewhere in between how bad most predicted they would be and how good they’ve been. The baseball Gods rarely get cheated, and that run differential is real. I was disappointed in Libby last night. I thought that 5th inning showed a lack of something besides the physical ability to make a good pitch. But you still need to score 5 runs to win most nights, 2 doesn’t cut it. Our black ⚫️ hole at the end of the lineup cost us at least 2 runs in the first 5 innings. Maybe Knoot will show up with his hair on fire. That would help.
Liberatore was looking so good through 4. He has had issues allowing HR this year even when he is executing fine beforehand. But that HR you could tell mentally beat him.
And yeah it doesn’t help having one of the worst hitters in baseball coming up with RISP. Scott left 3 on scoring position. Even if Scott were playing lights out defense like the Crowbar, the bat is so bad it isn’t worth it. But Scott has just been a mediocre defensive CF this year.
Mid 80s pitch count is not excessive. I don’t think its fatigue, rather its going through the lineup a second time. That should get him through 5. A starter needs to go through the lineup twice.
As to Scott, he doesn’t have the arm for center field and doesn’t have the bat for anywhere else. That is known as a lost cause.
I would for sure and have Noot in LF. Easy upgrade on offense from a sub .500 OPS hitter to Noot who would likly be .700+ OPS hitter

Would you put Church in center when Noot returns?
I would have Church in the everyday lineup over Scott, and no problem with giving him an extended look as everyday CF. Not sure how that would go as a long term answer. It took a while for Scott’s inadequacy to be apparent. Trying guys is what its all about this season.
surprised we managed double digit hits with a team batting average in the .230s. RISP is key. if you have a team batting average below .250, mathematically its hard to generate runs unless you are hitting home runs. its not a reliable offense. cardinals need players who hit for average. I don’t expect them to win Thursday either against the A’s, hopefully they will prove me wrong. Go Cards.
