I fear I must I must contravene both the game thread duty and feasting admonitions to express once again the good cheer brought yesterday, whether a PR stunt or a spontaneous explosion of joy, by the non-baseball activities. Old fart that I am, I would have loved to have been among their youthful number. Furthermore, I am about to remove from the oven a din-din of roasted duck, potatoes and carrots and break open a nice bottle of Beaujolais. If I have any room left I’ll slice a generous portion of banana nut bread for dessert.

Oh yes, I’ll also go on to cheer our birds to a tenth game over sea level.

Maybe the Royals are already thinking about getting out of town. We spend the rest of the month playing in division, so the standings can change quick.

I’m not sure I feel good about this one . . . being down Jared Shuster and all.

I am not really sure all of this topless fans/players/students stuff is a good idea. Seems kind of somewhat stupid to me. Not really what tough hard-nosed Cardinal baseball is all about.

And din-din today is a ribeye steak in the air fryer, some jumbo crinkle cut french fries, an ice cold slushy Mt. Dew, a bowl of Turkey Hill Vanilla Bean ice cream. Then a 7×50 Palma Real Presidente cigar. All of this starts about the time of the 1st pitch between the Reds and Indians from Cleveland. Then switch over to the Royals and Cards game. Oh, and yes, Whitey Herdog will be on the couch with me.

What’s wrong with a little fun Rats? It’s a game and they should have fun on the field and fans should be having fun.

I had the same thought as Gscottar’s shared quote. I would partner with the local colleges and universities and give out 1000 free tickets to the college students in that same section every game. It is a win for the students as they get to go to the games. A win for the Cards pocket as they make more on concessions than they would with empty seats. A win for the players as they like the atmosphere. A win for Cards PR as they see fans having fun and those seats aren’t empty.

I went to school at a SEC university and nothing beats the college atmosphere for football and baseball games. So much energy.

Yeah, tough hard-nosed Cardinal baseball is what goes on between the lines of the playing field. The fans enjoyment is separate, and other than doing anything illegal fans should express their enthusiasm in any manner they choose.

I think those kids are great for team and stadium atmosphere.

In my estimation, the primary and indispensable ingredient for the “Tarps Off” kids and the energy and raucous atmosphere that these young baseball fans bring to the ballpark are W’s. I’m not entirely sure the overall character of fun and excitement would take on the same sense in the midst of a 10 game L streak…Just as long as the Cardinals continue to hang W’s up on the board, I’d guess that the fans will continue to make a lot of noise in the grandstands and provide plenty of clicks at the gate. That’s pretty much the same everywhere.

    Another good start.

Where’s Rat, he probably knows what the problem is today.

Rats likes his baseball on 100 degree astroturf with the 50s crowd of men wearing dress suits and ties. He would hate Japanese baseball.

Just can’t get anything at all going today and now down to only 3 outs left in the bank.

Edit; I almost forgot to say that this team can’t hit…Haha!

Nice Job Pushard. Looked like imminent doom after he plunked Loftin.

Hopefully we pull out of this budding death spiral before facing division foes the next couple weeks.

We finally got a runner to 2nd due to defensive indifference but Church grounds out and game over.

Pallante and the 38K in attendance deserved better. Day off tomorrow. We’ll see about Winn’s condition.

Well we lost but division leading Chicago lost on the road to Chicago. Speaking of which, those Pale Hose are two games above .500. They have really stepped up their game.

Nice that everyone else in the division lost today too. In my mind baseball is all about winning series’. So far our 2026 Redbirds squad has become quite good at it, as their 9-4-2 record reveals. Our first series with the cubbies is coming up soon. The Herd ( rowdy bunch) probably won’t be on the receiving end of free tickets for that series as I’d imagine they’re selling like hot cakes. It will be a challenge to beat the cubbies without them, but so far other than the Seattle series, they’ve been equal to almost any task put in front of them.

Even Skenes lost today and his ERA jumped to 2.62. He better watch out or he might
be relegated to a middle reliever role.

I was happy to see Pushard get out of that jam. Third consecutive scoreless outing from Svanson. It would be nice to have a second lefty out of the pen one can trust. Seemed like things might have sped up a bit on Walker today? Wanting to do too much with the tarps off crew? Maybe not, but I find myself thinking that if it is, he’ll find his way back. I wouldn’t have said that, say, a month ago.

I keep wondering if the bats will tire out. Wetherholt, Herrera, Burly, and Walker are all in the top 28 in plate appearances thus far. Maybe they get a bit more rest when Noot is back?

Yeah, Bikemike, if the Pirates are smart, they’ll dangle Skenes out there on the trade market while he still has some value…

If the Pirates were smart they would go ahead and have Skenes undergo Tommy John surgery now and get it out of the way and ready for the 2028 season. They aren’t going anywhere this year or next anyway.

I don’t know, Rats, they won’t get too much in return for Skenes if he’s sprawled out in the recovery room of a surgery center…
