Living in the Eastern time zone, I will be very happy when the Cards are no longer on Pacific time…

Vida is a good answer as well but he gets weighted down by his 1st season where he had a 6 ERA in limited innings. At the 200 IP mark Vida had a 2.88 ERA and at 400 innings down to 2.37
BikeMike. Joss definitely meets the criteria although maybe I should have excluded the dead ball era. Joss had an ERA- of 70 which is hard to imagine with an ERA that good but offense was so anemic at that time.
Skenes for comparison is at a career ERA- of 46. Gooden his season was 74 and second season 44. Checking back on Vida Blue his best year in 1971 was an ERA- of 56.
Looking at the career leaderboards, Skenes has the advantage of being in his prime only so far. But for SP across all of baseball his career ERA- of 46 is by far the best in history. Dave Brown is 2nd at 59 and Satchel Paige 3rd at 60.
Wow Shohei Ohtani is #12 on the career ERA- leaderboard. He has been very good this year but I didn’t expect him to be that high behind Pedro at 10 and Kershaw at 11.
Kind of weird watching these games with the A’s at their park. Its almost like watching a game at bosse field here in Eville but with major league teams.
To me what distinguishes Gooden from the rest of the field is that he worked 218 IP’ed at 19 years of age during his rookie season and 278.2 IP’ed at 20 years of age during his NL CYA winning sophmore season of ’85. Skenes nor anyone else in the ERA discussion come anywhere close to that sort of workload at that young of an age or in their first two seasons of their respective Big League careers. I clearly recall having the horrendous feeling that Gooden could possibly be K’ing Redbird hitters for 25 years into the future…Haha!

Redbirds with a real nice chance to take an early lead and I’m not at all sure I like flashing the sac-bunt sign to Pages with baserunners at 1B and 3B with 1 out and Scott on deck. I mean, it’s the 2nd inning for goodness sake. Pages should have been ripping away at the baseball.
New kid bolte gets his first mlb hit though gorman should have prob fielded it. Not an easy play though.
Pages stood there and took a hit me pitch for a strike and nothing good happened from that point on.
Yeah, KCB, I guess they could claim it was a half hearted attempt at a safety squeeze, but it sure didn’t look like that was the case to me. And even if it was, it’s still only the 2nd inning. In my view, it’s way too early in the baseball game to flash the sign for a squeeze play. I don’t at all get it.
The lefty hangs him out to dry with a nice quick move to 1B. Ohh…And now the A’s really get burned on the basepaths with the baserunner getting doubled off at 3B…Haha! Bozos on the basepaths.
It wasn’t a triple play but we got three outs with only 1 pitch being g thrown. I hadn’t seen that until now.
Well A’s kind of look horrible tonight. Guy gets picked off first after a successful hit n run and then the guy at third gets doubled off of third on a liner. Pretty terrible.
Libby has figured out the trick of pitching…get ’em to hit it hard right at your fielders….
Only 22 pitches through 3 for Libby.
And I like seeing Winn smack it the other way twice in a row.
Some of you Cardinal fans are probably aware that HOF’er Steve Carlton holds the all time record for career pickoffs with 144. He also holds the all time career record for balks with 90…Haha!
Seeing the A’s catcher try to catch Winn off of 3B reminds me of Napoli catching Matt Holliday napping and picking him off of 3B in game 6 of the ’11 WS. Holliday jammed his wrist while diving in a vain attempt to get back to the 3B bag and sat for the remainder of that epic WS. Remember that? I said some really bad words when that happened…
