Sammy will be Rule 5 eligible this fall, so the clock is ticking louder.

You sure you’all want to see Blaze Jordan? This guy is already on the 40-man.
No one at any level has more homers in May than Joshua Báez.
Baez is hitting a lot of HRs, but he needs to keep working on things like his plate discipline and bat control. I think he needs another 2 months at least in AAA. Someone from the Cards seems to be pushing a Baez promotion narrative as I keep seeing articles or posts about it, but I don’t think he is ready.
Blaze is more MLB ready and I also don’t have qualms if he does come up and get partial playing time or even isn’t a success and need to be sent back down. Blaze is more of a fringe platoon type who can try to prove at the MLB level he is more. Baez clearly has the potential to be a starting OFer and maybe a 55 grade player and they need to ensure he is developed and ready.
May 30, 2026 at 2:22 pm #308541I could see Baez as a “trade deadline pickup” but he doesn’t need to be promoted before then. In fact if Velazquez is given a chance to stick around and performs well we could leave Baez at AAA until 2027.
I view Blaze Jordan differently. If he can play decent 3B defense I would rather him in STL now instead of Saggese.

That’s the question. From what I’ve read, his arm and glove may be adequate (40 grade both) but his speed and range isn’t. He may just be one of those guys you have to get up here and see if you can tolerate it. I know this. If he isn’t hitting you will hate him over there.
