This is so damn much fun. Starting to think there’s a possibility that Lester might come back? I would love that.
September 20, 2021 at 4:59 pm in reply to: 2021 Cardinals MLB Game 148 thread – Sunday, September 19 vs. Padres #172867Not sure I want to get into a bidding war for a popular NY player and I’m not sure he’s the type of player you want if you’re leaning into being a “run prevention” type of lineup and organizational philosophy.
Again, that’s why I think the DH is so huge for the Cardinals next year. You keep the same defense but add a free bat to a lineup that’s offensively deficient. I think it might make more sense to add a pure DH type of hitter to the roster defense be damned. And above average FA DH’s are relatively cheap. Mo would still have all kinds of money to go out and get a starter, a little bullpen help and keep powder dry for a trade deadline deal or two.
A big money everyday player is pretty low on the list of wants next year for me.
September 20, 2021 at 3:25 pm in reply to: 2021 Cardinals MLB Game 148 thread – Sunday, September 19 vs. Padres #172861Absolutely agree. The idea that StL will pay another IF big, big money just isn’t realistic to me. Nor do I want them to.
But a starter is necessary.
And as far as the DH goes, is it possible they hold on to DeJong, bring up Gorman and let it ride with those 2? Lot of strikeouts but potentially a LOT of power too.
September 20, 2021 at 1:08 pm in reply to: 2021 Cardinals MLB Game 148 thread – Sunday, September 19 vs. Padres #172858I absolutely agree with that gscott. I would pay a little for a pure hitter with little worry about his fielding. He’s got two jobs: Hit strikes hard and don’t swing at balls. That’s it. The DH is an enormous gift to this team for next year. And I also agree with not tying up 200-250 mil for a single guy.
A strike throwing starter who’s got some swing and miss, doesn’t have to be elite and a professional hitter to be the DH and hit 5th or 6th.
Let’s go.
September 20, 2021 at 9:19 am in reply to: 2021 Cardinals MLB Game 148 thread – Sunday, September 19 vs. Padres #172845Absolutely I agree with that. I think they need to spend real money on a starter for sure. And I would not be opposed to actually overspending on a shorter deal similar to the deal with Beltran years ago but a real deal starter is imperative this offseason.
We’re all hopeful that Waino continues at this level, Hudson returns to form, Reyes transitions seamlessly into a starter, Mikolas stays healthy and that one of Woodford/Thompson/Libby can become a solid starter but each guy mentioned has enormous question marks. That’s why a 2/3 starter is a must.

Why so negative? We both know they aren’t spending on an OF and most likely not on a SS either. The front office is going to continue to lean hard into a run prevention roster/philosophy this offseason as they should. This is the best defensive lineup is baseball currently and it’s not even close. That’s why the addition of the DH to the NL is so huge for StL this offseason. They can continue with this lineup and they get a free bat courtesy of MLB.
They can go get a veteran starter on a “no get hurt” type of contract, add a lefty for the pen and then see how the season shakes out next year. If you think they’re going to be huge spenders in the offseason just because they have the cash to do so, I think you’re going to be disappointed.
September 19, 2021 at 8:55 pm in reply to: 2021 Cardinals MLB Game 148 thread – Sunday, September 19 vs. Padres #172824Let’s go. This franchise is ready to take off. The pieces are in place. A little pitching help and this is a 92-95 win team next year. Minimum.
September 19, 2021 at 6:03 pm in reply to: 2021 Cardinals MLB Game 148 thread – Sunday, September 19 vs. Padres #172813Wish list for next year:
A zone pounding number 2/3 starter and a lefty for the pen. The lineup is set. Don’t throw money just to throw money.

May 31, 2021 at 11:01 pm in reply to: 2021 Cardinals MLB Game 54 thread – Monday, May 31 at Dodgers #162940I kind of like Ponce in this current role. Won’t throw wild pitches, strikes out guys. I think this is a nice fit. I think he could actually become a weapon.
May 31, 2021 at 10:53 pm in reply to: 2021 Cardinals MLB Game 54 thread – Monday, May 31 at Dodgers #162933What is up with the walks and cross ups this year?? It’s obviously not a Yadi problem. Are these guys being rushed up? Is it a Maddux thing? The walks are already alarming but the cross ups are now becoming pretty frequent.
