Any word on his progress? Has he fully recovered and ready for Spring Training at 100%? Assuming there is a Spring Training, of course.

January 4, 2021 at 5:23 pm #151120I think he was ready by the time the season started last year. He just opted out because of the virus and his being high risk because of diabetes.
January 4, 2021 at 5:28 pm #151121He had a set back in spring and is far from a sure thing.
January 4, 2021 at 5:53 pm #151123There was no ongoing concern about Hicks. He could have pitched in 2020 if not for COVID concern.
Last month, Mo told us that Hicks will enter camp on a regular schedule to have a normal spring training.
January 4, 2021 at 7:09 pm #151125That is great news. My concern would be Hicks might push too hard if competing with Rosie. Plus, a Rosenthal signing would minimize the value of Gallegos.
I would like to see Reyes in the rotation. I know we love Adam, Gomber, and CMart, but I think Reyes falls in behind KK and ahead of Miles. Adam at five with Gomber and CMart to the pen.
Hicks and CMart are a different dynamic than Jordan and Trevor.January 4, 2021 at 8:11 pm #151126I’d be surprised if the Cardinals bring in more relievers. A starter if not Waino, maybe.
January 4, 2021 at 8:38 pm #151127The pitching depth is amazing with or without Waino. I add in Adam whenever I consider the rotation.
January 4, 2021 at 10:03 pm #151129I should have said, “with the current roster”. On the other hand, if they trade away some pitching depth to get offense, that could change their potential posture on free agent pitchers (my speculation).

ParticipantWell Al was basically saying he’s out 4 weeks, not good.
May 4, 2021 at 9:43 pm #160179Whitley has been surprisingly effective for the most part.
May 5, 2021 at 4:37 am #160180I know recovery from TJ can be bumpy and uncertain, but how big of a worry is this?
May 5, 2021 at 8:49 am #160186Mo’s quote was hopefully Hicks will be back “some time this summer”. That doesn’t sound soon to me.
May 5, 2021 at 10:44 am #160196He said four weeks, fingers crossed.

stlcard25ParticipantYikes. That’s not good news at all. Perhaps we will be shopping for relief help at the deadline.
May 5, 2021 at 11:16 am #160198
jj-cf-stlParticipantPerhaps Oviedo bumps Gant to the pen, in an effort to backfill Hicks absence.
May 5, 2021 at 12:16 pm #160200We are less loaded with pitching than we thought.
May 5, 2021 at 1:31 pm #160202Man, this is too bad. I have never liked the way the Cardinals have managed Hicks, rushing him to the majors and then putting him in the high leverage role.
He seems to be going the same route as Reyes, who fortunately is handling things really well these days. Hopefully Jordan gets to that point as well.
Maybe both guys are groomed as starters next year.

stlcard25ParticipantI think Reyes will get a shot to start in 2022. The ship has sailed for Hicks, much like it did for Rosenthal. He’s a high leverage reliever and a pretty good one if he can stay healthy.
May 10, 2021 at 9:22 am #160677He may not return until the all star break.

May 14, 2021 at 5:16 pm #161254Hicks is now on the 60 day list, with DeJong to the IL (non-displaced rib fracture) and Max Moroff to the 40 man and the club, most likely to play 2nd. He’s been hot! Goold had it pegged when Moroff was removed from the game yesterday.
May 14, 2021 at 6:34 pm #161266Actually, if that is what Goold said, he didn’t nail it. It was Rondon who was removed early – from Wednesday’s game. Moroff played all of that game, but did not play at all Thursday.
May 14, 2021 at 8:04 pm #161273Update: Game underway and Moroff no longer at 2B.
This is what he tweeted yesterday. Perhaps I parsed it wrongly if he never played, and Goold meant only that he was scheduled to be in the posted lineup but wasn’t.
LinkMay 14, 2021 at 10:11 pm #161317Wow 60 day does not sound good at all. Wondering if we have seen the last of Hicks for the season.
May 15, 2021 at 1:02 pm #161434The Cardinals claim he will be back but it will be sometime in July at the earliest.
