Thomas should’ve had that guy at home by a mile. No chance Williams messes that up. And neither of them hit so might as well go with Williams

Also I’m an Oviedo fan. Not his fault we have no pitching depth in org and he basically went from high A to the majors

No sooner gets a lead and he walks another guy in the 1st. Off with his head.

One of the biggest difference between baseball now and baseball in the 70s through 90’s is tonight’s pitcher Oviedo! In those earlier decades he would have stayed at AA or AAA until he learned how to throw strikes and pitch! This kid is talented but is nowhere near ready for MLB!

    Wow Lane Thomas can’t play.

Edman is really messing up on defense. Drops a perfectly thrown ball to allow a runner to be safe. Then Thomas let’s a ball drop in right that should have been caught by a major league outfielder. Can’t have that stuff with any pitcher let alone a young one. Just rediculous.Thomas has really dropped down the list in my book of players that need to be on team and edman needs to get it together too.

Nice homerun by arenado to get that run back. If arenado could tighten his defense up, I’m thinking he could be a MVP candidate this year.

Watching this guy pitch is a microcasm of our whole pitching staff! Super talented but can’t throw strikes! To be this poor throwing strikes is ridiculous!

Very frustrating. I do not understand it. Oviedo is way too talented to struggle like this. What am I missing?

I guess the longer you go with Oviedo, you’re just trying not to cripple the pen and hoping you can win something like 12-10.

Great play by Nolan. DP gets the Cards out of the inning.

I think Oviedo has good enough stuff to be part of the rotation. It may be maturity or confidence issues he is dealing with. He has the talent.

I think that’s the plan. They’re sacrificing Oviedo’s development because all organizational pitching depth is either not ready (Liberatore) or just not there (all the bad ML pitchers. The Covid season put development of some minor leaguers a year behind and were really seeing the outcome of that, especially when combined with ozuna goldschmidt and arenado trades. Not saying I disagree with trades but you lose alcantara weaver gallen and gomber who take Oviedo out of this situation

Great play by arenado. Just gotta start making the easy ones. This team has a bad case of the drops right now

Edmund comes thru! Then Carlson bangs a ground rule double! Cards up 7-3.

It’s painful to think about all the RBI’s that Goldschmidt has missed this year. I love his defense at 1B, but I don’t see him as a $25M player. You have to wonder what he was doing in Arizona that he’s not doing now. Thin desert air? Sure. Thin desert air.

It’s not like Oviedo is nibbling. He’s missing the zone on his fastball by over a foot regularly.

Tommy looks shaky on almost every play right now. He’s gotta get that confidence back in the field

An error on our gold glove outfielder let’s another runner move up.

Woodford’s two K’s extinguish the AZ 5th inning threat. 7-3 Good Guys

Can’t blame all on the coaching, but it’s obvious that changes need to be made.

Sure is Willie. Strikes out 4-5 batters he’s faced. He’s a pen saver tonight. Go the distance kid .

Goldy is 33 years old. He is under contract for three more seasons (at $26M per year). I am hoping he can pick it up as the season moves forward. Not sure we will ever see years like he had in Arizona given his age.

I believe goldy will be fine. If we can get our guys back and stay healthy, I like our odds though I still worry about our pitching.

Man I bet out pitching coach when he goes home at night is tired of saying “ just throw strikes”
