The Mets trailed Atlanta 3-0 and then they score six (6) runs in the 8th to take a 6-3 lead.
The Braves come back in the last of the 8th with four (4) runs including a two out bases clearing double by Ozzie Albies.
In the top of the 9th Lindor hits a two run homer and the Mets win the first game 8-7. The Mets are now in the playoffs.
If the Mets win the 2nd game Arizona is also in the playoffs. If Atlanta wins the 2nd game they are in the playoffs and Arizona is out.

September 30, 2024 at 4:19 pm #268422I had forgotten about these two games and I’m kicking myself for missing the opener. I’m watchng the nightcap as I key this in, but I sure missed a good one. Do or die for the Braves.

jj-cf-stlParticipantThanks Rats. Game 1 of the DH was fun. Excellent rallies in the late innings.
September 30, 2024 at 4:34 pm #268426I mentioned elsewhere that first game was a classic. The Mets closer Edwin Diaz failed to cover first on what would have been the third out in the 8th and the Mets still up 6-3. With the extra out the Braves scored four to take the lead! Diaz was visibly upset with himself. Then Lindor cranks a two-run bomb and the Mets regain the lead, and Diaz keeps the Braves off the board for the win. Really something.
These two games take me back to being a teenager in 1969, watching the first ever NLCS. I thought the Braves of Aaron, Cepeda, Niekro etc would end the Mets Miracle, but it did not happen. And here all these years later the Mets do it again.
September 30, 2024 at 4:42 pm #268428I just checked and on June 11th the Mets were 17.5 games off the pace in the NLE. They don’t pack it in and quit and now they’ve secured a post-season berth. I also happened to notice that they’re 27-16 in 1 run games. They find a way to win. I say all this about a team that I absolutely hate…Haha!
September 30, 2024 at 4:46 pm #268432Yeah, I vividly recall that ’69 season, Bikemike. And what about the WS? The Orioles had won 109 regular
season games that year and no one gave the Mets a sliver of a chance. I recall watching a couple of those WS games in class at school.September 30, 2024 at 5:36 pm #268436
jj-cf-stlParticipantSnitker has tomorrows SP in there. That’s all hands on deck!
September 30, 2024 at 5:54 pm #268437They lose this second game and there is no tomorrow. I think it was Durocher who said “You don’t ever save a pitcher for tomorrow. Tomorrow it might rain.”
September 30, 2024 at 6:01 pm #268439Technically, today’s games are not even the playoffs yet. They are Games 161 and 162. We can only hope the playoffs will be as exciting.
September 30, 2024 at 6:08 pm #268442No, they’re not, BW. And I genuinely think high stakes regular season games that go right down to the wire are an invaluable asset for a team heading into the post-season. I don’t care about the depleted pitching staff. I think it’s good for a team to enter into the playoffs with an abundant flow of adrenaline. Let the boys get amped up and ready!
September 30, 2024 at 6:08 pm #268443Braves win the final game 3-0 over the Mets. Braves now head to San Diego. The Mets go back to Milwaukee. Arizona can go and play golf now.
September 30, 2024 at 6:15 pm #268445That gives me an idea…Maybe if a condition of missing the post-season was that none of the players on the teams that missed were allowed to play any golf in the off-season, they’d try a little harder…

jj-cf-stlParticipantTwo 89 win teams eliminate another 89 win team. The NL will be a hoot to watch.
September 30, 2024 at 6:29 pm #268449Brewers vs Mets…..I’ll take in a game of this series…..maybe 2.
September 30, 2024 at 6:30 pm #268450Boy, they sure did. Remember in ’93 when the Giants won 103 games and came in second to the Braves in the old NLW and didn’t even qualify for the postseason? And then they won 107 games in ’21 and were eliminated in the first round by the WC 106 win Dodgers…Haha!
September 30, 2024 at 6:33 pm #268452Aw man…That’s incredibly sad news about the Hit King.
October 1, 2024 at 4:20 pm #268576The Astros are down to their last 3 outs as they’re getting shutout by the Tigers in Houston by a score of 3-0. That Detroit team is looking to be dangerous right now. Meanwhile, no score thru 5 between the Royals and O’s in Baltimore.
October 1, 2024 at 4:29 pm #268577Witt Jr. breaks the scoreless tie with a 2 out RBI single to lift the Royals to a 1-0 lead in the 6th.
October 1, 2024 at 4:41 pm #268579The Tigers hang on to win 3-1 over the Astros as our old friend Jason Heyward proves to be the last out. On a 2-2 pitch with the bases jammed up he rips a scorching line drive right at the Detroit 2B’man for the final out. Pretty good play-off baseball game.
October 1, 2024 at 5:09 pm #268580KC still holding a 1-0 lead in the 9th at Baltimore. Mets up 3-2 over the Brewers in the 2nd at Milwaukee. Plenty of offense early at Miller Park.
October 1, 2024 at 5:19 pm #268581
jj-cf-stlParticipantPeralta is at 50 pitches, recording only 6 outs.
October 1, 2024 at 5:21 pm #268582Good see someone else on here, jj. I guess everyone’s watching hockey…
October 1, 2024 at 5:24 pm #268583Last chance for the O’s as they bat in the home half of the 9th trailing the Royals 1-0.
October 1, 2024 at 5:24 pm #268584
stlcard25ParticipantThe AL got the memo that pitching wins in October. The jury is still out on the NL…
October 1, 2024 at 5:25 pm #268585
jj-cf-stlParticipantWifey got home about the start of Mets/Brewers so I missed the runs scored Dom. Gotta show up for Bader.
