    We are only 4 wins short of our 71 total last year, so we can gear up for the water carriers to roll out the year over year improvement narrative.

    I think Brian is right about what we can expect in the way of roster expansion moves. But to be fair, there isn’t much worth bringing up. Looking toward next year’s ST there might be a few laundry list pitchers squabbling over the bottom of the rotation and a couple fringe types looking at bench roles. Apart from any acquisitions of note, the ST story line looks like it will center on whether Walker and Gorman will make the team, but we will have to wait for Brian’s Top Stories Prediction article to know for sure;

    Oh yeah Bling you know that is coming and then they will start projecting a similar improvement into 2025 and opine about how that would be a playoff year while completely papering over how p**s poor the last decade has actually been.

    I understand that the teams announcers have to be generally positive and upbeat but it seems like I never hear them say anything even remotely critical. Brad Thompson is the worst of the homers and I enjoy his color analysis but I like Edmonds better as he will at least occasionally state the obvious.

    Looking at the Yankee’s starter I think we can surmise that they are willing to lose today’s game.

    On a team featuring Goldschmidt and Arenado, Donovan bats cleanup.

    What a news flash that Goldy is having a bad season. You want him higher again? 😉

    There are no good ways to reshuffle this deck. So maybe the old “put the names in a hat and draw them out” would be preferable…

    I see Walker is quoted on the Cardinal website as saying “I feel I can compete at this level,” so I guess there is nothing to worry about.

    News flash…”Matz set to be activated when rosters expand.” A little more salt for the wound.

    I dont know about this lineup. Since i cant watch most games, i dont generally pay attention. How is a guy like donovan hitting cleanup when you have a bat like bakers on your roster. Ill guess ill check if bakers beem sent back down, hadnt heard anything. Just seems mystifying to me. Though this appears a game the cardinals should win unless gibson totally lays an egg.

    He placed Donovan in the 5 slot and Pujols in the 2 slot in the two most important games he’s ever mismanaged.

    The analytics may suggest otherwise but why in the world don’t they just bat Donovan 2nd and Burly 4th? Good grief is it that difficult?

    To use my favortie sports quote of all time from the great Vince Lombardi, “what the h*** is going on out here?”

    Wasn’t it me saying they should bat Donnie 4th?

    I want Walker to succeed so badly. It’s so critical to the success of this team any time in the near future. But until he adjusts to that low outside pitch, it is EASY for ml pitchers to get him out. If he doesn’t figure it out, he won’t be in the majors when the games count again.

    Romero and Kittredge haven’t been very good the last six weeks or so.

    Tired arms?

    $2.6 million doesn’t buy much pitching these days, and $860k buys even less. Besides, they are both below their career ERA, so I don’t think we can complain too much about an August downturn.

    Romero is 1st year arb next season, which won’t be too bad, but he will start to get more expensive. The recent trend is to use minimum wage failed starters in the pen rather than actual quality relievers that cost money, so we will have to see how long it is before we close the book on the Sosa trade.
