RHP Miles Mikolas (8-10, 5.18) vs. RHP Luis Castillo (11-12, 3.65)
BSM // KMOX // WIJR
Also BS South and Southwest ExtraSeptember 8, 2024 at 8:56 am #266883Scruffy again. It feels to me like he’s pitching every 3rd day – I know he isn’t but…
September 8, 2024 at 9:50 am #266886A starter with a 5.18 ERA in September after 28 starts would not even happen on a team serious about winning. It’s fine on the Cardinals in the current BillMo era of mediocrity.

Does Ollie not understand momentum.
Not at all. Neither does the analytics dept., which informs game prep.
September 8, 2024 at 1:23 pm #266892Didn’t take them long to get to Mikolas.
September 8, 2024 at 1:31 pm #266893Mikolas is nothing more than a batting practice pitcher nowadays.
September 8, 2024 at 1:31 pm #266894Down by 5 coming to bat in the 1st.
There are 18 million reasons he will be in the rotation next year.

jj-cf-stlParticipantI’m 15 minutes late to the game thread, and we’re down 5 runs.

stlcard25ParticipantMikolas is in 2023 Wainwright territory now. I don’t know if we could get someone to take him if we offered up his entire salary at this point.
September 8, 2024 at 1:51 pm #266897At some point (if I’m the manager) I walk out to Scruffy and tell him, “You’re gonna get 27 outs today. I won’t be back out here. Good luck.”
September 8, 2024 at 1:59 pm #266900Well, this one is going south faster than U-Hauls to Florida! And Jim Carey just said Mikolas is the first pitcher to give up 5 consecutive hits since 1984 (Ricky Horton, no less). Fans noticeably irritated after Arozarena’s HR. If Mikolas is in the starting lineup again next year, we can just give up 2025.
September 8, 2024 at 2:27 pm #266901Came in from tending the grill and I see Matz is auditioning for Mikolas’s rotation slot next year.
September 8, 2024 at 3:06 pm #266902If ownership gives a tinker’s dam about winning next season none of Matz, Mikolas, nor Lynn will be in the starting rotation. I expect that 2 of the 3 will be because that’s how the Cardinals roll.
September 8, 2024 at 3:13 pm #266903Matz and Mikolas will be back for sure, along with Gray. We can guess about the rest.
September 8, 2024 at 3:36 pm #266904Baker and Carp are the late inning defensive replacements.
September 8, 2024 at 4:02 pm #266905Good think Roycroft struck out the guy with bases loaded in the top of the ninth or things could have gotten out of hand.
September 8, 2024 at 4:57 pm #266909Yeah, and it’s nice to see Matz come in and stem the tide.
September 8, 2024 at 5:10 pm #266911If we’re going to lose, why not lose with young guys? Give them a shot and some experience.
I’m tired of watching old guys with no future get hit and hit hard!
September 8, 2024 at 6:56 pm #266916Its just Bill getting his money’s worth, Albert. At least the bronze busts hit the showers early.

He’s not quite there yet. You still have next year to reach those lofty goals
All I know is he won’t be taking the ball opening day next year. We’ll see how long they stick with he and Matz before the young bloods down in AAA are called next season.
