Here’s a thought: Why don’t we trade Dexter Fowler for a truckload of batting gloves with decent Velcro so hitters don’t have to break concentration by resticking them between every pitch.

Prospects. Prospects. It’s nice to have prospects. You can’t have too many prospects. But how about trading for an established mler or two with some bona fide credentials that can get this team moving?
Oh yeah. We tried that, I guess. Fowler comes to mind. Cecil… I guess the FO isn’t worried about having to defend deals for prospects.

Speaking of injuries, I’ve been a bit out of touch, what’s with Waino? Is he done for the year? No longer a Factor?

I agree that Matheny was a nice man, by all accounts, but simply not a good manager and had to go. But he had zero at-bats this year, recorded no fielding percentage, did no base-running and, as far as I know, made no trades or acquisitions. Thus, it would appear, there is still a lot of work to do.

I think the Cards will make no significant moves (pretty much a specialty) and continue in their mediocre ways.

I’m a bit disturbed about people who don’t like what Matheny is doing, or disagree with the way he handles certain aspects of the game being called “Matheny haters.” That’s an awfully strong word. Disagreement doesn’t equal hate. Even calling for his firing doesn’t equal hate. Wishing for something better doesn’t equal hate. I, for one, am rather ambivalent about Matheny. Sometimes he drives me nuts. Sometomes I think he makes moves that are spot on. Sometimes I wish he would “manage” a little less and just let things develop. Do that many people really “hate” him?

I agree with those who are frustrated by the daily start lottery. Lets decide on a lineup of the eight best players we’ve got and stick with it – allowing for special circumstances, of course. This constant uncertainty is killing us, both players and paying customers.

I,too, am unhappy with the P-D. Living outside the United States and seven time zones away, my sources of Cardinals news are limited. A couple of months ago I wrote to the P-D asking if there was a way to subscribe to Cardinals news only, or, barring that, sports news only, in that St. Louis local, state and even national articles are of no interest to me. I got a one-sentence brush-off. Which makes me even more grateful for TCN to make up for the practically useless official MLB/Cardinals website whose Cardinals writer is so weak and so often makes you wade through hundreds of words of blah-blah before getting around to telling me what happened in the game.
    End of grumble.

Perhaps Ozuna should use some of the millions he is making to buy a six dollar alarm clock.

    His conduct is irresponsible.

He is paid millions to play baseball and to comport himself like a responsible adult. He is doing neither.

Is it asking too much for someone merely to get up in the morning and get to work on time? This is an attitude problem.

I got up at 7:30 this this morning and switched on the computer to see how the Cards did last night, only to discover THEY WERE STILL PLAYING. Got to watch the last two innings while eating my corn flakes – disappointment as Baez slashed his homer, elation as Fowler saved the day. I take back what I said about your 0-5 day Dex.

I come down on the side of those arguing against bringing out the hook every inning. Make these relievers work longer hours. Every circumstance is not an exception circumstance. And quit spending so much time agonizing over the “closer,” a dubious concept to start with. If a guy has just worked a three-strikeout eighth inning and is still fresh, why yank him just because he isn’t a “closer?”

A good thing Martinez pitched a brilliant game because he sure didn’t get any help (3 hits!).

Gyorko is back. I can’t see why we’re not playing him every day, letting him develop a regular’s rhythm. Oh yeah, that’s right. We have to do something with our .161 hitting leadoff man. I have liked Carpenter for a long time and have been one of his biggest supporters during his latest difficulties. But there comes a time when you have to think of the team. The man is clearly not himself. He’s not doing us any good. He’s hurting. It’s time to sit him down for a significant stretch of rest, recuperation and reflection.

Yes, when they were looking for ways to work additional off-days into the season to give the players more rest, I suggested the obvious – reduce the number of games. People looked at me like I was from another planet!
What? Cut into profits for the well-being of the players? Perish the thought!

I’ve always wondered, once you’ve got over $200 million, how much better can you make your life with $20 million or $30 million more?
Never having been faced with a comparable situation, I can’t really say. But it seems to me that if the happiness and comfort are tied to the highest possible number of dollars in Pujols’ mind, then he did the right thing. Like millions of others, I would have preferred that he choose history, love and loyalty over a few million more. But as it turned out, those are not things that were important to him. In light of that, he made the right decision. He’s gone. And in retrospect, I’m glad – for him and for the St. Louis Cardinals.

I know, I know, it’s still early days, new team, time to adjust, yadda, yadda, yadda. But I’m still waiting to be impressed by this Ozuna fella.

Sure, I’d like to see Carpenter hitting 100 points or more higher. But frankly, I’m more worried about Wong and where he’s going right now. The thing with Carpenter is we can’t get the straight scoop on his condition. He certainly doesn’t look right out there. Is he really hurting and trying to hide it? Is he hoping he can play through it – at the risk of injuring himself further? Or is he just going through a bad patch? Would he benefit from a nice long stretch on the DL to get all these nagging ailments sorted out. That could be a solution once Gyorko gets back. But the question remains: What’s Carp’s REAL physical condition?

And they should have suspended the ump for making terrible calls all night.
