Well, keep in mind these are the people who invented steak tartare.
September 5, 2026 at 1:08 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #143 thread –Saturday, Sept. 5 at Colorado Rockies #318140If I were Ollie I would instruct all the players to wear their caps slightly askew throughout the game tonight just to see the reaction, if any, that draws from officialdom. At the very least it would piss off Eddings royally.
On the din-din front, I’m afraid I have bad news. Abandoning all French-hood this evening we went with cheeseburgers and potato chips followed by vanilla ice cream and raspberries.
Finally, let’s not let these cellar-dwelling Denverites get away with any excessive offense. Let them have the occasional single but no more.
September 4, 2026 at 2:28 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #142 thread – Friday, Sept. 4 at Colorado Rockies #318093That is undoubtedly it. Thanks Bling.
Hard to believe you now have to drive a day and a half out of town to catch an airplane.
September 4, 2026 at 12:52 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #142 thread – Friday, Sept. 4 at Colorado Rockies #318089Bicyclemike,
When I was working in Denver back in the early 70s I used to frequent a restaurant along the runway at Stapleton Airport that was built like an old World War I aerodrome. Tables were set among winding sandbag bunkers and there was lot of old aviation paraphernalia. I’m sure the place is no longer there but I was wondering if you might have known it, and if so, can you remember the name? Tnx.
September 4, 2026 at 11:53 am in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #142 thread – Friday, Sept. 4 at Colorado Rockies #318082Tonight the CiFs will be dining on pork tenderloin, sweet potatoes slathered in butter and a lettuce, tomato and onion salad. Looks like fruit salad again for dessert.
Well, we did nicely with one of the best. Lets see if we can do the same with the bottom dwellers.
September 4, 2026 at 11:22 am in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #141 thread – Thursday, Sept. 3 at Los Angeles Dodgers #318078Close. Oh so close to a sweep. But still an excellent series. I even enjoyed Edman’s four-hit day despite his contribution to our loss. Now let’s kick a little tail in Denver.
Rah Cardinals!September 3, 2026 at 1:32 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #141 thread – Thursday, Sept. 3 at Los Angeles Dodgers #317992If the Cardinal brain trust sees Saggese as the 3b of the future, fine. Play him. If not, find somebody else. But it won’t be NG.
September 3, 2026 at 1:01 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #141 thread – Thursday, Sept. 3 at Los Angeles Dodgers #317986Don’t we have a promising prospect somewhere in the system who could finish out the season at third getting some useful ABs rather than continue to waste time and energy watching Gorman rack up Ks? He’s had enough runway to land a 747. I don’t think he can be “rebuilt.”
September 3, 2026 at 6:23 am in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #140 thread – Wednesday, Sept. 2 at Los Angeles Dodgers #317926Every time I prepare to give up on these guys, they pop back up to .500 again. I know they have no realistic hope of winning anything but it’s fun to see that ol’ bobber break to the surface now and again. Ya gotta love ’em.
September 3, 2026 at 12:17 am in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #140 thread – Wednesday, Sept. 2 at Los Angeles Dodgers #317920Wow! I’m up early this morning. Just in time to see Burley’s 8th inning sacfly to tie it. Way to whomp those Dodgers! And whatabout that Fermin!

September 2, 2026 at 1:23 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #140 thread – Wednesday, Sept. 2 at Los Angeles Dodgers #317847Din-din tonight was a Boursin and spinach quiche, a green salad and a glass of Cotes du Rhone, finishing off with a dish of Haagen-Dazs butter pecan.
Was nice to win one in LA yesterday. The Dodgers seem to be in a bit of a mini slog. Let’s hope it continues another couple of days.

September 2, 2026 at 4:44 am in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #139 thread – Tuesday, Sept. 1 at Los Angeles Dodgers #317813Just watched this one on replay. Nice comfortable win. No anxiety or teeth grinding. Just the way we like ’em. More of the same would be great!
Rah Cardinals!BW: Ahh, progress! As the French would say, that is a cat of a different color!
If by losing you can still be making progress? I believe I can subscribe to that. I’m not sure that’s true in this case either, but I can see the possibilities. If your expectation is to lose and then you do indeed lose, you have succeeded? I guess I can see a certain logic in that. But I think I’ll continue to equate success with winning. Somehow that just seems to make more sense.
Those who wish to find success in a sub-.500 season will always be able to do so as long as winning is eliminated as an element in building that success.
August 30, 2026 at 1:16 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #138 thread – Sunday, August 30 vs. Pittsburgh Pirates #317569Just finished a din-din of pork chops. mashed potatoes, corn and cornbread, followed by a dish of Haagen-Dazs vanilla ice cream sprinkled with fresh raspberries. Yum.
Now downstairs to settle in before the teevee for a little Cardinal baseball.
A little hitting music please!
August 30, 2026 at 12:14 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #138 thread – Sunday, August 30 vs. Pittsburgh Pirates #317565They must not do rebuilds up in space.
Or they have no need up there to unload expensive players.
Or they don’t pay millions for mediocre players in the first place.
Or they….
August 29, 2026 at 4:21 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #137 thread – Saturday, August 29 vs. Pittsburgh Pirates #317537Well, despite the very best effort of the Pirates to give us that game, we steadfastly refused to take it.
August 29, 2026 at 11:29 am in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #137 thread – Saturday, August 29 vs. Pittsburgh Pirates #317516Does anyone think Baez could perhaps profit from a little more time in AAA? Say, finish out the season down there? On the other hand we’ve brought up Gorman to agitate the oxygen molecules around the plate once again so why not hang in there with Josh to see if he can replicate that fabulous first AB?
Well, it’s Saturday and that could well be pizza time! Perhaps I could persuade Madame CiF to slap together some cheese, sausage, mushrooms and green peppers and spread them over a nice crusty oreganoed tomatoed disc. I’ll volunteer to make a crunchy green salad with tomatoes and onions. Hmmm, I’m drooling already. If only I could find a couple of those apple-cinnamon thingies from Wisconsin!

August 28, 2026 at 5:32 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #136 thread – Friday, August 28 vs. Pittsburgh Pirates #317464We’ve been encouraged not to expect much from this season and so far, armed with our rebuild excuse, that has been good advice, consequently we are left with what joy our top of the order can bring us while the rest struggle with Mr. Mendoza. If we should get lucky and finish at .500 this year, all can cry success!
Alas no catfish around here. Had to settle for a coupla trout.
August 27, 2026 at 12:05 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #135 thread – Thursday, August 27 vs. Baltimore Orioles #317382Madame CiF and I are about to sit down to a din-din of lamb chops, brown rice and a lettuce, tomato and onion salad. No dessert planned. I suppose we’ll just pop open one of those store-bought chocolate puddings cups out of the fridge while our birds agitate their arms wildly in an effort to regain the surface.

August 26, 2026 at 3:55 am in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #133 thread – Tuesday, August 25 vs. Baltimore Orioles #317228If the Cardinals still insist on keeping Gorman around after all this time, I suggest they rotate him with the right field ball girl and the dugout fan to keep the other players cool.
August 25, 2026 at 8:26 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #133 thread – Tuesday, August 25 vs. Baltimore Orioles #317207Woke up for a middle-of-the-night relief and tuned on to check on the Cardinals. OOOF, 10-1. And I see our man Gorman is still being Gorman. I’m headed back to bed.
August 25, 2026 at 10:23 am in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #133 thread – Tuesday, August 25 vs. Baltimore Orioles #317134Oh Goody! We’re getting Nolan Gorman back.
Frankly, I like TBA’a chances tonight.
