12:10 p.m. RHP Dakota Hudson (5-3, 3.47) vs. LHP Jason Vargas (3-3, 4.68) Fox Sports Midwest // KMOX
June 16, 2019 at 3:23 am #94560Cards dealt a blow as the Cubs come from behind in the 9th to down the Doyers 2-1 on Saturday night in Los Angeles. Rizzo a two run homer off of Jansen in the 9th to win it for the Cubs.
r/Esteemed Rat <~~~~who is up late because of the storm
June 16, 2019 at 11:28 am #94594A win today gives us back to back series wins and a 500 road trip after starting the trip 0-3. Some good momentum heading into a 9 game home stand. Go Cardinals!
June 16, 2019 at 11:34 am #94595My keys to a Redbird victory.
1: cont. to be aggressive on the base pads.
2: play loose, and get an early lead so the mets have the pressure of catching up.
3: Hudson continues to be efficientMy call for today’s game is 7-3, Redbirds.
June 16, 2019 at 12:21 pm #94603Let's win the series for dad!

June 16, 2019 at 12:22 pm #94604Goldy hits a 422-foot blast and gives the #STLCards an early 2-0 lead.

June 16, 2019 at 1:02 pm #94608Though Hudson hasn’t exactly looked John Tudorish in this one thus far, the more I see of the two, I think Hudson will have a better ML career than Flaherty. That’s now 162 consecutive batters that Hudson has faced without yielding a long one.
June 16, 2019 at 1:09 pm #94610Carps struggles continue. Not sure why why Schildt continues to put him in the lineup or at least put him in the 8th spot and not lead off.
June 16, 2019 at 1:10 pm #94611We should be clobbering Vargas. He’s been around as long as Waino (2005), but not near the stats. 4.25 ERA vs. 3.36 for Waino, and 95 wins vs. 153. But like Waino is occasionally, put up 3-4 runs against him and he’ll fold like a cheap suit. 8-4 Cards on this fine day!
June 16, 2019 at 1:10 pm #94612One of these months Shildt is going to cease leading off Matt Carpenter…one can hope. This Jason Vargas fellow always has a look on his face like he just had his Bassett Hound get ran over by a UPS truck…..and there he goes again….strikes out the side and looks distraught as he walks off the field. I bet if the guy won Powerball, he would first kick his dog before going down to claim his millions.
June 16, 2019 at 1:17 pm #94613Maybe Hudson is going to end up having the same MO ( that’s “modus operandi” for all of you living in Joplin ) as most of the great pitchers, in that he’s slightly vulnerable very early in the game, but after about the 2nd inning, you can forget about lighting him up.
June 16, 2019 at 1:18 pm #94614He’s not there quite yet as the Mets just tie it up in the 3rd on an awful throw to home by Bader.
June 16, 2019 at 1:33 pm #94617Thanks to the Met SS, Echavaria, the Birds have the bases bubbling over with no outs here in the 4th….sweet!
June 16, 2019 at 1:37 pm #94619Game tied as Yadi grounds into your basic 5-4-3 twin killing….no rbi rightfully awarded…..matter of fact that’s 2 double plays that the Cards rightfully hit into this inning….Fowler with the first one on the aforementioned Echavaria fielding blunder. 3-3 now as we mozzy along to the Met 4th.
June 16, 2019 at 1:48 pm #94620Now Vargas really has something to frown about as he exits this a fair after taking a swing…..he really tweaked something badly judging by the grimace on his mug…..but then again he kind of always has that look about him. Jacob dE gRoM will pinch hit for him…..and gets the free pass. But then Smith bounces into the 4-6-3 DP to end the inning. Well, thru 4 complete, the Mets have outhit us 6-1……but they haven’t outscored us as this game is knotted up at 3.
June 16, 2019 at 1:53 pm #94622Wilmer Font…..lol!….what a name….that’s a name straight out of “Green Acres” or “Petticoat Junction”…anyway, Wilmer Font Gomez is center stage for the Mets here on defense in the Cardinal 5th. If we don’t rough up a guy with the name of Wilmer Font, we aren’t going to hit anyone….which we really have not done for the better part of this year.
June 16, 2019 at 1:57 pm #94623Well Cy Font dazzles the Cardinals as he mows us down 1-2-3 in the 5th. “Cy” or “Wilmer”???? Which first name would you take? Toss “Poindexter” into the mix….you can’t lose with any 3 of those first names.
June 16, 2019 at 2:02 pm #94624Just thinking out loud here…. what if Wong was christened with the first name “Wilmer”? Wilmer Wong…..say that 10 times successfully real fast and I’ll buy you a boat.
June 16, 2019 at 2:13 pm #94625Wouldn’t it be kind of neat to get out hit 12-1 in this game, but get the better of them on the scoreboard 4-3? Well it’s 8-1 Mets right now in the hit department here in the 6th, but still 3-3 in the runs scored category. Stay tuned.
June 16, 2019 at 2:17 pm #94626And thru 2 innings, the Cardinal offense has yet to solve the Wilmer Font mystery, as they have yet to assemble anything close to a base hit vs this crafty Metropolitan eighty.
June 16, 2019 at 2:19 pm #94627Righty not eighty….whoever invented spell check should be sent to the western front.
June 16, 2019 at 2:22 pm #94630And for the first time in this ballgame, Dakota Ryan Hudson sets them down 1-2-3. What did I say about the great ones earlier? 98 pitches thus far for Dakota
June 16, 2019 at 2:34 pm #94634Cy Font still the main man for the Mets here in the Redbird 7th…..let’s stay with the action shall we?
Yadi- Bounces a routine roller Davis’ way at 3rd, Davis will gobble her up and wing it on over to Alonzo’s waiting mitt at 1st to retire Yadi by half a football field.
Bader- Grounds it right at Echavaria at short…who bobble it….throws….safe at 1st…..E-6 Echavaria’s second in as many innings. Boy was Bader hustling on that play! Kid is a winner…..lets hope it rubs off on some of these others.
– Pops it up behind short where Echavaria will successfully handle this play.
Marcell – Shoots a grounder out to the very busy Echavaria at short and he’ll just flick the short throw on over to 2nd to just barely nip the always hustling Harrison Bader to retire the side. Well, Wilmer Font has held this Cardinal offense totally hitless in his 3 innings of labor.
Cards 3
Mets 3June 16, 2019 at 2:36 pm #94637Oh boy it looks like I’ve chased everyone off. I’ll step back and let others post for a bit.
June 16, 2019 at 2:44 pm #94639Play-by-play is a lonely job, Pugs… When you return, please bring some offense with you!
