Not a LH bat but I would consider seeing if Anthony Rendon 3B could be had from Washington.nats will owe huge dollars to Scherezer,Zimmerman, and another pitcher (brainfart moment can`t remember his name).Between those 3 I think its like 60-70 million .Rendon will be a FA after 2019 and made 12.3 in Arb this year.He has pop,pretty good batting eye and good glove man.He hit close to .300,44 doubles,24 HRS,92 RBIs.Worth checking out and he seems to be very durable.

1.bullpen-i think Cards need a dependable Lefty(Andrew Miller,Justin Wilson) or a LP who had a down season but has a solid history (Jerry Blevins,Jake Diekman).As for closer ……just throwing this out for a option john Brebbia,Hicks and whichever Lefty is signed?I wonder if the Fo would spend the money on Kimbrel.I agree he would be a great signing .
2.Norris-he seems to be a half/three season guy.Runs out of steam late but otherwise did good mostly.Not the worst option by any means.
3.Cecil-i am with you .His ship has sailed.Time for a change.
4.Shreve is a mystery to me.Throws decently but just never quite seems to finish the job.Defense-yes.Jmart needs to go to AL.Glove is just a killer.I put Gyorko is the same ship as Cecil-I like Gyorko but another option needs to be found.Even a glove first 3B who can make consistent contact would be good .I also want to keep Wisdom as a backup3b-1b pinch-hitter/bench guy.
Health- yes.It seems like Cards had more than their share of injuries this season.
Contact hitters- Nice thought and I think some guys will get better with more experience ;DeJong -should improve when hand heals completely,Bader and O
Neill have improved yearly BB/K rate.As for contact hitters Cards have a potential RH bench bat at Memphis in Rangel Ravelo.All he does is hit .300 nearly every year and has a pretty good BB/K rate.Problem is he is mainly a 1B/LF who doesnt fit the power profile for 1B/corner OF.I say if he can show he makes good contact then why not give him a real chance to see if he can be a bench/PH/ option.21.Patrick Wisdom 3B-1B-IMO he showed enough to be a viable bench option for 2019 and showed why Cards picked him.
22.Justin Williams OF-still young and could provide LH OF option
23.Andy Young 3B-2B-the bat plays somewhere
24.Seth Elledge RP-hard throwing bullpen guy
25.Evan Mendoza 3B-rough year in AA but the glove is good and maybe he can be a Kenny Reitz type 3B with a little more experience.I still like his potential.Swing the bat O
Neill.Damn I hate looking at 3rd strikes.Cant do any damage with bat on your shoulder TO.Don`t be too passive.Bullpen should be near the top of the fix-it list.Counting on bouncebacks from Gregerson and maybe Cecil (if he is still here,personally I think he is gone for whatever the Cards can get) and Leone to stay healthy all year would be plusses.But you have to find a reliable Lefty.Webb have been hot/cold since being a Card (nice stats but don`t really reflect his story,inablity to consistently find the strikezone.IIRC he is not that great vs LHB anyway.
There are several LH bullpen option available (Deikman,J Wilson,Blevins etc;).Gyorko
s ship has sailed IMHO..Time to retool for 3B.Carp might bee able to field okay at 3B but his rag arm is a big negative.Time to check all other options for 3B ( Munozs glove is still shaky.) Wisdom showed enough IMHO as a backup 1B-3B PH (5-15 Pinch-hitting) for a bench spot.There are several minor FA/rule 5 3B options worth checking out as backup/bench/ spot starter .3B Josh Fuentes Colorado AAA 26 551-180-39-12-14-95 21 BB-103 K .327 BA Rockies need to add him to their 40-man roster or risk losing him Rule 5.

277-80-17-1-5-37 .288 19 BB 50 KMikolas has sure been the best pitcher for the Cards.I know many were skeptical that mikolas would be good on his 2nd time around the league this seaqson.I think he fooled many and exceeded expectations.i was figuring on maybe 10 wins maximum from him mainly based on his previous MLB pitching.So glad I was wrong on that.I bet his success makes other teams take a lot closer look at pitchers overseas especially guys with MLB experience.Isn`t Mikolas just turned 30 so he should be a viable pitcher for several years.If he would consider a reasonable extension then why not.With the fragile Startes (CMart,Wacha,Alex Reyes,and the youth (Gomber,Flaherty,Gant,Poncedeleon) a veteran presence would be a asset.No matter which way the FO plays it some will either say a extension would be premature and/if Mikolas gets to free agency after next season some will say the FO sat on their hands again.No win situation.
Nice clutch pitching from Mikolas and Cmart with the save.Has Mikolas been a lifesaver or what this season.

If Ross could be signed as veteran swingman at a cheap price then why not have him as a fallback option in case of another big attack of the injury bug next season.
I remember 1964 and the damn Mets beating the Cards until Cards finally clinched on last day I think.Mets battled Cards every game and made it hard for Cards to clinch.

According to Cots contracts Forbes valued the Cards at 1.9 Billion this year. Cubs valued 2.9 Billion.Hell of a difference IMHO.
I would rather see O`Neill in RF for the Cubs series.Also I would rather see Patrick Wisdom at 3B instead of Gyorko.
Since Theo is a Checkbook GM I am sure the overrated tool will just go out and spend more cash for more players.When he builds a team without having a nearly unlimited checkbook let me know.
Pham trade was addition by subtraction.Cards rid themselves of a malcontent lousy defensive OF who had been playing poorly and was 30 years old with a lengthy injury/eye issue history.Good riddance to that malcontent .Cards got a MLB Cards top 30 prospect Justin Williams,Another Cards top 30 prospect in LHP Genesis Cabrera and a service RP Roel Ramirez.Coincidence or not……Pham gets his sorry ass traded and the Cards go on a winning streak.How about that.So I say BS to the Phammites whining about Pham being traded for next to nothing.

t think you can judge this season on preseason expectations because of the changing of the manager.Just going by preseason expectations then there are going to be 29 teams having failed this season by not winning the world series.The stated goal is the playoffs.. I get that..but sometimes there are things that trip you up-injuries/poor performances /etc;.Nobody expected the huge injury factors/lousy inconsistent play by players who had performed fairly consistently over time/ add in some plain bad luck at times and crap just happens.Bouncing back and making the playoff run (not eliminated yet) and breathing some life into a listless team makes this season a success to me.Thats my opinion.Cards haven’t climbed the mountain but they have takern some steps up IMHO.I just don`t see it as a simple yes or no answer.I would rather Cards spend on a solid reliable LH bullpen guy.I have doubts about Cecil being a Card in 2019.Tyler Webb stats are better than he has pitched but he might be worth a chance next season.I wondered why Tommy Layne was not given a chance since he did so well at AAA and has had MLB success.I think he is a minor FA.Maybe Cards can convince him to return with a Spring training invite.
