I’m going to be away for a while, and not sure when I’ll be back. I’ve already compiled my top 50 list. Is there a way I can get these to you, or do you want me to just post my entire list here for transparency?

Tyler O’Neill watch – 124 At-bats (130 limit) with 3 games to play with Jose Martinez ridiculously playing over him and Garcia in RF.
So far in the vote for 16-20, Baker and Garcia are running away with it with a lot of others packed around. I’ll give it a little more time to see if any others are going to vote.
Shildt’s magic is wearing off with O’Neil being benched for JMart. Anyway, I emailed you my Top 50 list. I left it whole instead of subtracting the names that already qualified.
Not to be a debbie downer but it seems to me this whole thread would be more of a relevant topic for the off season. I guess I’m in the minority on that.
gscottar, it IS the minor league off-season. We follow the same schedule each fall and there is a reason for it.
We always start in September because we traditionally need that much time to get 55 or 60 names ranked by the end of October or start of November. That is required so the community vote gets included in the overall site top 50 rankings, which start rolling out one per day around Thanksgiving. The top 50 series wraps up in early January just before Winter Warm-Up.
It takes a lot of work behind the scenes to get this all done and stay on schedule. Hope that helps to clarify.
Brian, your explanation makes perfect sense. It is just difficult for me to focus on who our best players at State College and Johnson City might be when the parent club is fighting for their lives. I guess I’m not that good at multi-tasking. I’ve made improvements in my knowledge and interest level of the minors but I’ve still got a ways to go compared to some of our other knowledgeable posters.
If my math is correct I believe O’Neil is currently at 129 ABs. He is currently batting and this AB registers it would mean he no longer qualifies as a prospect. Is that correct?
BHCard, I think this puts him in the Alex Reyes category. The rule is you must exceed 130 AB. I think he finished at 130 exactly, so if Reyes is still a prospect then I assume O’Neill is as well (since this site doesn’t take into account 25 man roster time accumulated).

Losing Baker and Garcia will help narrow down the field here. Those two accounted for over 100 of the 250+ ‘points’ in the last round.
My votes for this round, #21-25, are:
#21 – Justin Williams, OF. Just 23 next year, the Tommy Pham return had a nice year at AA in 2017. He may be on the Memphis/STL shuttle next year due to his 40-man status.
#22 – Edmundo Sosa, SS. Made it to the ML. He is a long time prospect that will be just 23 starting next year.
#23 – Patrick Wisdom, 3B. Should have made it early. It’s hard to trust his more recent numbers, incl in the ML, given his past but he is looking good so far. Probably will be the last part of that 2012 draft class to contribute to the Cards success. Wacha, Piscotty, and Kelly have already been up for a while.
#24 – Johan Torres, OF
#25 – Johan Oviedo, RHPTyler O’Neill maintained his rookie status for next year in dramatic fashion.
Dramatic fashion would be him at 130 abs and him coming to the plate and walking or hitting a sac fly. Or maybe him at the plate and the last out gets thrown out on the bases.
21-Evan Mendoza, 3B. He was potentially top 10 on my list at the halfway point, but fizzled at Springfield. Still, he’s got a shot to shoot up the list further next year.
22-Justin Williams. Hopefully the Cards are working on getting some more loft in his swing. He could use it to tap into that power he was noted for.
23-Andy Young. Another versatile player, this one with more power. He could be a great utility guy in the Yairo Muñoz role down the line…hopefully with better defense.
24-Steven Gingery. I just have a feeling that this guy is the next Marco Gonzales fast riser in the system, even with his lost 2018. He could start next year at Peoria, or at least State College. Probably a mid rotation guy in the future but that’s pretty valuable.
25-Johan Oviedo. I debated Ivan Herrera here, but I think there’s a lot of variability in the GCL guys. Oviedo had an excellent second half and hopefully can build on that for 2019. I’d imagine he’ll be at Palm Beach as a 21 year old, where he hopefully can showcase his stuff and cut down on the walks.
21.Patrick Wisdom 3B-1B-IMO he showed enough to be a viable bench option for 2019 and showed why Cards picked him.
22.Justin Williams OF-still young and could provide LH OF option
23.Andy Young 3B-2B-the bat plays somewhere
24.Seth Elledge RP-hard throwing bullpen guy
25.Evan Mendoza 3B-rough year in AA but the glove is good and maybe he can be a Kenny Reitz type 3B with a little more experience.I still like his potential.21. Geovanny Gallegos
Old for a prospect at 27, but spent time in the Mexican League and on the DL with Tommy John surgery. He throws mid 90s fastball with a good curveball. He has been a true strikeout artist in the minors and looked decent in a late call-up. I value these type of players because they are a surer bet than short-season guys with years still to develop.22. Edmundo Sosa
A late stop in St. Louis caps an okay year. Slick fielder with a chance to become a valuable utility guy in the majors.23. Evan Mendoza
A college guy moving rapidly through the system. Should return to Springfield after an okay stint there this year. Needs his offense to catch up with his defense.24. Seth Elledge
Got knocked around a little in his first AA action, but K/BB ratio was promising.25. Conner Capel
The good: only 21 years old and left-handed. The bad: has yet to show the speed and power he showed in the Indian organization.21. Max Schrock – The 23 year old had an off year his first taste of AAA, but his babip fell to .260 after averaging in the .350 range and never being below .329 so you would think he’s going to bounce back a bunch next year. The guy only struck out 7.9% of the time and his K percentage has been under 10% every year he’s been a pro! When he came to the organization from Oakland in the Piscotty trade he was coming off a .321/.379/.422 2017 season with RC+ of 128 at AA. Toss in there he can play multiple positions (2B, 3B, OF) and he could be a very interesting utility guy in 2019. Let’s not sleep on this guy based off one year after a trade, promotion, and maybe some bad luck.

25. Morales – Seems like he could be on the path to contributing in the bullpen soon.Hmmmm…. seven different #21s. Mine will be eight.
#21 Young – The biggest overachiever in the organization and could muscle his way in the INF mix at Busch.
#22 Mendoza – I agree with Stl-25, Bw52, and Rob Cobb who are all high on this kid’s potential. His bat is just too good.
#23 Urias – Could turn into a pretty good two-way infielder and surprise a lot of people… I like his future.
#24 Gingery – Tewes II… Cards feel that they got a steal in the 4th rd. He’s only 21 and should catch up quickly.
#25 Herrera – He’s only 18 but could start ’19 at Peoria. He may turn into the full package.
21. Evan Mendoza – Not much more to say, a pure hitter with good to great defense. If the power develops he’s a solid regular at 3B.
22. Jhon Torres – This guy is what a star looks like at that level. Must continue to develop, but lots of tools to work with.
23. Andy Young – Really has performed over the last two years in the system. Adds power to the utility role. Could be a Jedd Gyorko type by the time he’s developed. Interesting piece in the Cards’ system.
24. Delvin Perez – Seemed to have a better year at SC with fewer of the maturity issues showing up. If he continues to grow and mature he’s not far off from where Francisco Lindor started. I don’t think he has that ceiling, but all the tools are there for a solid SS.
25. Justin Williams – Well rounded OF prospect that just didn’t seem to get it going for whatever reason in AAA this year. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him bounce back pretty strongly this year and make this ranking seem well short of his potential.

21. Ivan Herrera – Again the kid hit .348 this year and .335 last. He’ll be on the bullet train next summer heading towards ST. Louis, with stops in Peoria, PB, Springfield and Memphis.
22. Evan Mendoza – He’s crazy good with a bat. Last year he started out hitting .370 and got promoted quick. This year he started out hitting .349 and got the call to the next level in a hurry. He’s only 22 and he’ll probably start in Springfield to beat up on AA pitching before finishing in Memphis.
23. Andy Young – How is it that a player gets promoted and performs better at each level. The higher he goes the better he gets. 2016: .271ba, 3hr, .356obp, .762ops; 2017: .278ba, 17hr, .359obp, .830ops
2018: .289ba, 21hr, .379obp & .858ops. By the time he gets to the bigs, he’ll be Rogers Hornsby!24. Edmundo Sosa – He’s just Mr. Consistency and that’s all that needs to be said.
25. Leandro Cedeno – Moved to 1b this season, he busted lose after a lost season in 2017. He’s got big time power; 30 homer potential. Hit .336 in JC with a .419obp and a robust 1.011ops.
